MH Chatter #4: Venus

How about we ease into this a bit more, since the main three might kill me and Lagoona is my favorite and thus far more difficult than she'd be for someone else.

Venus is up because that's what the wheel of random said. As far as characters go, I don't have any strong opinions on her. She's kind of abrasive when she shows up and has a tendency to lean towards Ghostwritten Dawn (BSC) but she's interesting to look at. She also is the only MH doll to sit on my computer down here.


Favorites:

Coffin Bean Venus is my favorite and I seriously didn't expect that to happen. But her green lipstick and the fluffy curls, plus that dress and I'm in love. She's just beautiful, really. Promos did not do her justice at all.
GNO Venus gives me a bit of a nostalgic throwback (legwarmers!) and she's just really fun. It appears that when paired with black, I love Venus in bright pink. Who knew? Oh. Yeah. Anyone who knows my love of black. :P
Music Festival Venus. I think she's one where the promo is better than the actual product, but she's lovely either way.



Honorable Mentions:

Swim Class. Both versions (green and pink lips). She's pretty and while I kind of hate the swim class plasticy bits, they work pretty well for Venus.
Zombie Shake. I don't own this pack (why, self?) but she's delightfully over the top.
Fierce Rockers. Why hello there, Jem and the Holograms. Nice to see you.



Meh:

Sig. I debated whether to put her in the HM section or not, but honestly Sig Venus doesn't do much for me. She's got super soft hair and her eco bag is cute, but she's not a look I adore. I don't dislike her, I just... meh. Though I do like the earrings and I remember there being a big discussion with z over which one of us would get the one with waaaaaaaay more fangs than the other. Ah, memories.
Gloom and Bloom. Eh. *shrug* She's not for me, but she's pretty.
Ghoul Spirit. Haven't bought her yet. Might not get around to it. I might. Meh. If I do, I'm thinking it'll be more for the outfit and megaphone. And the more I look at this one, the more she's growing on me. Perhaps like a fungus.


Nah:

No seems too harsh for these two, and would also be a lie for one. Fangtastic Fitness has doofy looking hair (sorry) and I'm not sure it wouldn't be stuck that way, and with her shaved side(s?) being flocked, you can't really do hardcore hair rehab on her.
I ♥ Fashion. I like the fashions but not as sold on the doll, which is fine since she never freakin' appeared. (Might be bitter.)

Basically, I don't have serious feelings for Venus for the most part. Except Coffin Bean and GNO, and I love them both. A lot. Seriously, CB Venus makes me happy to look up and see her. So fluffy (the hair)!

Oh, and I consider Clawvenus to be a Clawdeen and not a Venus, so she'll show up there when I get around to Clawdeen.

My tops are Coffin Bean and GNO for the same reasons, although I have GNO in the DDG dress. And IHF, because short hair with black in it and she looks like I did her makeup. Heh.

Ooh, I bet GNO looks pretty amazing in that. I don't allow myself to look too closely at either Venus or Cleo from that incarnation of IHF because then I get irrationally angry/bitter that for frick's sake, we can have Wydownna and Iris hang around for centuries, but Cleo and Venus couldn't even make a quick stop in the land of available?

I do like the look of Venus with black in her hair as a) it's awesome and b) it gives the rest some depth/makes everything pop. Is IHF's as crunchy-gelled as it looks in promo, or does it brush out or... whatever door number three would be?

I can't remember what her hair was like out of the box. I think the bobbed part was actually okay, because I don't remember trying to rinse gel out of it while avoiding both the flocked part and bangs. That would have been a chore. Mine's bangs are actually pretty soft, even though they're gelled in that jagged pattern that I love.

I got really lucky in getting both when they went on sale on TRU.com. I think I bought 2 of each and took the extras back to the store, thinking now it would be easy for people to get them, so I don't know if I even offered them to anyone. Probably not or someone would have taken them. I thought their mass release where they'd sit on the shelves like Clawdeen and Scarah would be right around the corner, but my store never got any more in. My extras were sold pretty quickly, I think. I remember us getting like one case of one of them, can't recall which, in during the short time I worked there and again, I expected more to follow and they didn't. I have no clue what happened with these two or even with Haunted Spectra and Rochelle. It's just bizarre!

I'm glad they didn't go insane with the gel on Venus given the flocking issue, then. I still kick myself when I remember they were available, briefly, online. But everyone else shelf sat for a decent amount of time so it didn't seem super dire.

Oh, past me. What a fool you were. I guess it sort of makes a little sense to short pack a line here and there to keep people from doing the wait and see, but then you create a new mess when people are still looking for the one that got away and don't buy the new things or blow the money on ebay instead of instore.

Haunted Spectra and Rochelle were just... weird. Spectra might be weirdest of all, because at least Rochelle and EAH... was it Briar who was out at the time for the exclusive? Or was that Kitty, who did later show up? I dunno. Walmart's exclusives that round got borked and made me extra twitchy about everything thereafter. :/
