I totally get you on birthday expectations. It should be a personal holiday, but it's like...its just a regular old day to everyone else, which makes it hard, I guess. You feel self-indulgent, IDK.
Yeah, I do think its pretty shitty of your best friend not to give you any time on your birthday because WTF - aren't you supposed to be friends because you like spending time together?? I'm sorry your day had a shit component to it, but it sounds like the rest of it was pretty great, and you didn't spend the day alone (as I usually do), so yay!
But you are definitely entitled to your feelings, with good cause.
