Logan has landed
Jan. 30th, 2017 06:36 amHuh. All I had to do to get Logan to leak was post about him? Damn, I wish I knew how my superpowers worked so I could use them for good evil properly! Anyway. Uh, Logan leaked, guys. He also seems to be vanishing off the 'net as fast as he appeared, so you get watermarked images because that's what I found.

I assume the people claiming he looks like he doesn't have eyelashes did not see this picture where they most assuredly do exist.

I would guess they saw this picture and saw no lashes and freaked out.
Annnnnnnnnd now we're at the part where I might get in trouble. On the one hand, I have no interest in a boy AG. I just don't, never have, likely never will. The closest I came was when Widget was into playing with my dolls and I thought well, maybe... only I liked having AG be just girls. I still like that. Don't gimme the "but there's a Bitty twin boy!" stuff because BTs are not a thing anymore and also it's different. It would be different if they had a boy Wellie, btw.
That aside, I... don't hate him. In fact, I'm tempted to buy him, rip the wig off and turn Logan into a girl who shall not be named Logan because the only girl Logan I knew was a royal witch. Truthfully, with a black wig, Logan looks pretty similar to a girl I know sooo... eh. The only thing making me pause on this plan is that actual, legit Native American AG fans are Not Happy about the Kaya mold being whitewashed and given to a boy for reasons I think I mentioned before? And I can't blame them because I agree. But I also want Logan for not Logan purposes.
And I do not agree with anyone who says the Marie Grace mold would work as a good boy!character. I saw exactly one custom that sort of worked but the more I saw of that one custom, the more I realized that no. No, I think the MG mold is the one AG mold that is not at all suited to being gender-swapped. I must admit, I thought for sure we'd wind up with boy Classic or boy Josefina before boy Kaya.
So am I a terrible person for wanting Logan, even if it's for nefarious purposes? I still have no interest in the Tenney doll but I want Logan and Gabby. But I think I'm going to have to figure out a wig option for Logan because I'm really picky on those... No, self, you are not a terrible person. I mean, you might be, but not for this. :P

Date: 2017-01-31 02:08 am (UTC)I get your disappointment about them introducing a boy doll. It is a little disappointing, because AG was always a place where girls were important, the center of their particular universe and time period. Lord knows we have an abundance of stories about boys already, so OG AG was a refreshing counter-tide to that.
Plus I'm not totally sure I understand the appeal of a boy AG doll. Are they trying to market to boys, or is there that much of a clamor among their target customer group for a boy doll?
That being said, if you want him, get him - it's nobody's business but your own why you want him.

Date: 2017-01-31 07:54 am (UTC)I think the marketing is where people are already going to battle and it's getting ugly. I don't see AG marketing him to boys. I'm 99.999999% sure he's meant to appeal to the girls who have been asking, for years, for a boy doll for whatever reason. To be Stirling if they've got Kit, or Ben for Felicity, or a brother to their Truly Me or hell, even a boyfriend (don't mention that in AG fandom because ohmygod, they will kill you or make you wish they would) because, y'know, there are boys in the world and they want one they don't have to make. Also, probably marketed a smidge towards the parents who wanted a boy for their son, but mostly I'm thinking the girls who want boys in their doll world. I hope that makes sense, the dog is singing and it's 3am and my brain is a little fried. I just don't see AG trying to grab all the boy bucks.

Date: 2017-01-31 01:39 pm (UTC)Fair enough if the target base had been clamoring for a boy doll, and this isn't just some cynical cash grab by Mattel who want the elusive "boy" dollars at the expense of their "girl" base (bc as we all know no boy has ever played with dolls before, especially dolls marketed almost exclusively at girls).
Who is fandom kidding, at that age I would've 1000% wanted a boyfriend for my doll(s). Hello - Ken, anyone?
Getting back to this Logan, though - I will say that that hair is pretty unfortunate, especially given AG's track record with wigs...

Date: 2017-02-01 03:18 pm (UTC)Yeah, I think the crowd that's all over Instagram and maybe youtube (I don't go in that section of the 'tube) has been creating custom boys for awhile, and I know ebay has a crapton of customizers who make boy AGs for those people who seem to believe little Billy cannot possibly have a girl doll because THE HORROR. I just can't see AG's fantastically conservative (as a whole, anyway) customer base being super on board for boy dolls for boys. As it is, Logan's definitely in the accessory to the girl dolls/Ken area. I could be wrong though. I guess we'll see this month when he goes live on the site and in catalogs.
Fandom is freaking out because they're used to the characters being 8/9/10 and still in the boys are dumb/friends only why would you want more stage and Logan and Tenney are older and how dare there be romance as a possibility! Annnnnnnnd nothing that AG's put out at all so far sounds like they're pushing for romance anymore than anything they've done before which is to say there's no romance. Yet. No idea what the books will hold. But they're also going after older girls who might want a smidge of romance (see Ken) so I dunno. It's nice to not care one way or the other really, but I have had to roll my eyes so hard it hurts at some of the pearl clutching.
I have a mighty need to see this wig in all its glory. I can just imagine how fantastically weird it's going to be and it's killing me to have to wait. *cackles*
