Mom and I went to vote this morning and even though technically morning rush hour should have been over, traffic was still pretty heavy after 9:30. We turn onto the street our voting place is and see cars parked on the side of the apartment complex's greenery... all the way back to the highway. Fuck.

See the school parking lot so filled with cars it's hard to imagine there's a spot in there at all. Double fuck.

But then we see two people pulling out and naturally the person ahead of us goes to the one Mom wanted, so we got left and then we realize... it's not a spot. Because some asshole in a Jeep parked really fucking weird. So then we had to try and back out and naturally ten cars refuse to let us back up and just as I'm about to hop out and stand in the way, someone lets us out. We find a spot almost exactly on the other side of asshole Jeep and as I wait for Mom to gather her stuff, I watch no less than five other people fall for the same "hey, it's a spot! Wait, no, nooooooooo!" trick we did. I mutter it's too bad we don't have our post its with us and Mom says she does. So I take the big yellow one and scribble a note about their parking job being awful and helping to make voting in this hellhole even worse and then I'm on my way.

To stand in line.

For an hour.

And forty-five minutes.

I'm not kidding. I looked at my phone when Mom and I officially got in line, so we're not including the walk alllllllll the way to the back of the line (and the line started pretty much as far away from the entrance to the cafeteria as you could get) and it was 10:08. It was 11:50-ish by the time we were done. The wait outside wasn't bad, even if it did take forever, because it was breezy and you could watch the leaves flutter in the wind. Inside the line wrapped around five times before you got to the check in. Why? Because 6 districts vote in the same place. There were more people there than there were during the 2016 election and that was a pretty long wait, too.

Also? Some asshole behind us started whistling maybe ten minutes into the wait and did not stop the entire time. I'm going to hope that when the volunteers saw who it was (I never figured it out) they told them to stfu. But nicely.

No idea if anyone I voted for will win, but I tried.

Too tired to make the Charmed post pretty, so I'm going to sleep.

Happy Stranger Things Day!

Okay, I am now safely exempt from all bitching about people who don't vote. I get to bitch when things don't go my way because I stood in line for an hour and a half, as it drizzled, and then I voted. I did not kill anyone for the soldier ahead of me who was waiting even longer [obviously] but could not vote because they couldn't find his name on their list. Dude had voted there for the last ten years. What the fuzzy? I felt so bad for him because they... basically told him tough cookies. Dude. That is just unacceptable.

Anyway, I felt very proud of myself when I reviewed my ballot. And then sent it off into the ether, where hopefully it will make a difference.

I do have to say that I don't see the logic in letting the people with last names L-Z cut the fricking main line. Why? Because they didn't have a small line to sign their name, so they should cut people who've been waiting more than a half an hour longer? It was more than a little annoying to be the first person outside the door, having been told they were currently full, and then two minutes later [and the inside couldn't have moved that quickly] they ushered in ten people from the L-Z side.

Oh, logic. Voting Day makes you weep, doesn't it?

So. Yes. There was never any doubt that I would do so, but I did have nightmares about it. I kept dreaming that I was distracted and kept voting for McCain.

Yes.

Seriously.

Nightmares.

My tummy hurts and I'm going to go avoid election coverage.

Oh, and they handed out candy while I was in line, but they did not give me the paper explaining the various issues I'd have to vote for on pages three and four. Uh, what?
