impyYesterday morning on the way home from work, Mums says, "I wonder if you could do a song for every letter of the alphabet for The Rolling Stones?" out of nowhere. I'm 99% positive there wasn't a Stones song on the radio so I'm not really sure what prompted it but my brain, after going, "wtf, Mums, this is someone else entirely" immediately went, "Betcha I could do it with Tori Amos no problem. Well..." And then I asked for the rules of this and we'll ignore any other time the internet has done this because I'm sure they have. Mums said that so long as any word in the title of the song started with that letter, it would count.
Yeah, I only had a problem with X.
And because I have been suspiciously quiet lately, I will now inundate you with Tori songs for this A to Z madness. You're welcome.
Also, I would be most interested in your takes (past, present, or future) on this for whatever band/artist/whatever. Because it's a little lonely around here and also I'm a big ol' nerd so, yeah.
I did add a few rules of my own to limit things. Only one (or two) songs per letter, preferably songs I've heard and like. Bonus points awarded for those with special meaning. Ready? Let's go.
Vids included for the music not necessarily the lyrics or the visuals. In general, if there's an official video for the song, I'll go with it but since some of these have been officially released like a billion times sometimes you get what you get.

A Sorta Fairytale
Feels like a cheat for A but it's also perfect for A.

Bells for Her
I once had a website for my cat. Because I am that much of a dork. Also, it was a thing and I regret nothing. And this song is beautiful.

Concertina
Ari loved this one, so while other songs might pop far more quickly to others, this was literally the first song I thought of for this whole thing. I still remember how excited she got that this was a single. Pretty sure I bought it the day it came out and either sent her one or she bought one the same time.

Dolphin Song
Because it's cute and I'm a dork and I don't care...but I do remember hearing this the first time and being torn between thinking "wtf" and "this is awesome!" and I get why a lot of people never make it past wtf. :p
Devils and Gods
It's under a minute so yeah, it's more like a song snippet which is why I didn't leave it here alone.

Man, for an album I don't love as much as some of her others, Pele is certainly well represented here. Which isn't really related to the song but I never said my reasons would be explained.

Right after Scarlet's Walk came out, a friend of mine ran out and bought it and basically shared his immediate thoughts as he listened to each song and when he got to Gold Dust it was basically just a blubbering, "She had a babyyyyyyyyyyyy" reaction.

Used to be Cass's favorite Tori song. Not sure if it still is, but it was for years. Also, I have a love hate relationship with it because Nelle played it one night on repeat for the better part of eight hours. Possibly longer. Not the album. The song. If you want to lose what's left of your mind, there are probably easier ways to go about it.

K was a surprisingly difficult letter aside from this song. Annnnnnnnd it's one of my favorites from that album and in general, really. By now if you're actually reading these, I hope you're grateful for me not just sitting here going on a lyric binge. Then again maybe that would make more sense...

You ever hear a song for the four billionth time at the same time as other people and it hits all of you what the song is about, or what it seems like it's about and you all just have the same experience at the same exact time? Yeah, that happened with Cass and Ari during one of various sleepovers.

I'd like to say I tried to avoid the obvious answers for these but yeah, I went with whatever I felt like... and I still think this song is beautiful. Really, I could probably just repeat that for most of these and probably have. I will say the video, like most of Tori's videos especially the mid to later ones has next to nothing to do with the song in any obvious way.

I haven't a reason, it was just the first song that popped into my head annnnnd it's one I like though I believe Ari had me rewind the video (ha, so old, actual video) because, and I quote, "I don't get it and I want to get it."

Beauty Queen
This feels like a cheat since the song isn't exactly a stand alone and is under two minutes but hell, I included Devils & Gods. Also, for awhile this was one of the few songs on Pele I could listen to.

Ribbons Undone
When the song kicks in proper, I get stupidly teary and I couldn't explain why even if I felt up to trying, so there was never another option for R. (Lie. Could've gone with Raspberry Swirl, but RU makes me cry so it wins.)

Sugar might be my favorite Tori song and it's the one I tend to list without thinking though not all versions are created equal.

Taxi Ride
Taxi Ride is one of my favorite Tori songs and it's one of those that I feel weirdly protective over. Like some songs have their hardcore defenders and some get some serious hate and I mostly don't remember which is which these days, but if someone said Taxi was their favorite song, I would probably forgive them most things. Also: not an official video but it makes more sense than quite of the official ones ever do.

Don't Make Me Come to Vegas
(the easier answer was Virginia but I really love Vegas and it has a soft spot in my heart) Vegas is one that makes me think of Cass though I don't think she likes it at all. Probably because she knew full well why it reminded me of her and it's not exactly the best thing in the world. :p I thought of this immediately for V even though, again, Virginia was right there.

Yes, Anastasia is one of those that took me forever to come around to, probably because it's pretty long and at the end of an album that I don't love as a whole as much as others but it's also the first I thought of for Y and so it stays.

Again, duh. It's one of those that at first it's just bouncy and cute and then it hits you what you've heard and I forever remain amused.

That's just using your time more efficiently. ;) I look forward to whatever you decide to do with this!
