30. Least favorite cover because sometimes you can judge a book by the cover:

For SVH, probably #27, Lovestruck. I always imagined Ken would be cuter and unlike #8, Heartbreaker, I can't be swayed by Jessica being Jessica next to a dude who looks way too old for this.



Also, My Best Friend's Boyfriend is pretty bad.




SVT? When they re-released the SVT books with the pumpkin colored twins. Like I'm sure the models were very pretty but the orange skin and the weird yellow hair... the original covers were so much better, though now that I've devoted entirely too much time to looking up covers, I see that at least 3 & 4 weren't as bad. They tried something new so it wasn't basically just the same cover, different models and colors searing my retinas out.


But in general, covering multiple series?

And bonus: cover that freaks me out? Evil Elizabeth. It's creepy beyond measure for me.

I mean...I have actual, legit horror books that look less spooky.


Anyway, this has been my Sweet Valley 30 Day Challenge. And it might also be the first, last, and only 30 day thing where I didn't cheat and post two days (or more) at once or do the whole thing at once, or simply stop somewhere in week 2. Huzzah!

SVH #27 is just plain bad. Not only Ken looking out of it, but Suzanne gazing at him so adoringly while he looks like he'd rather be anywhere else but there.

SVH didn't get Ken right very much. That Fatal Night is just as bad, IMO, with that creepy blank stare.

Hmm...no comment on the others, except to say that there's a reason why I prefer the classic covers.

...and that Evil Elizabeth is amazing and there's a reason why I chose that one as my only dedicated SV icon, hee!

I probably spent more time as a kid pondering why Ken looked the way he did on his covers than I did pondering any other dude on the SVH covers. I never thought of Ken as blank but good lord, you'd never get any sense of personality from just his covers. Maybe cold as ice but that's again, not something I'd associate with Ken. Sigh. He deserved better! SY is at least a little better though he looks way older than the other dudes who pop up on the covers. *shrug*

Evil Elizabeth works so well for your icon. She is always judging and possibly always plotting horrific ways to kill you and hide the body so that no one will ever find it. Which is why I had to just throw it in at some point. It's one of the few where I'd be tempted to try and snag, what is it, the Dutch version? Getting the awesome stepback art in all their glory.

SVT always did Lila wrong. Always. Well, maybe almost always. I can't remember every cover.

ETA: OMG, I should do a blog post of all the Sleepover Friends covers! I say 15 minutes before I have to get ready for work. Yes, this is happening later.

Woo! Man, I didn't realize just how many Sleepover Friends books I'd never actually seen the cover for. Poor Lauren. They just did her so, so wrong so, so often. It's interesting to see how Patti changed a fair amount but after awhile, even with a different artist, still managed to easily be identifiable as Patti. And I will always love the cover for #13. Always. ♥

I think for SVT, Lila had one amazing cover (Secret Valentine) and I don't dislike Happy Mother's Day, Lila but that's two out of a lot. Poor Lila indeed.

Posting this here because I'm not sure if blogger is just mocking me or I'm missing something obvious or hell, if the comment will appear later and I'll just look impatient or something, but I didn't want your post of glory to not be fully recognized and commented upon:

This post is like curling up with my favorite snack and a pile of books and not having to be anywhere or do anything for hours. So happy making. ♥

I love Stephanie's look on #4, even if those aren't her colors (but they are in that she looks gorgeous) and I swear I had a similar sweater to Lauren's on #5. It looked so cool but it was a pain to wear because I'd overheat immediately. Woe.

I'm sure it's obvious, but which one is Laure on #7? Both she and Steph look really cute so I guess it doesn't really matter but sometimes you just wonder.

Don't think I'd ever seen the cover of #9 before and this whole post is going to result in me trying to figure out how to fix my DVD player so I have something to watch/listen to while I clean off my bookcase and go looking to see which books I'm missing.

When I think of Kate, I think of how she looks from maybe 12-16. The other girl on 12 is weirding me out with the spaghetti thin arms though. 13 is love forever and always, and 15 is love between Stephanie's perfect outfit and the way Patti is making me think of Facts of Life Jo.

Also never saw #27. Clearly these are the books no one locally wanted to give up. Yup, definitely going to have to figure out which ones I'm missing and fill in the massive gaps.

God help me, but I love the art for #33. Lauren looks adorable, Steph and Kate are pretty on the nose, and Lauren's creation is just weirdly awesome.

It popped into my moderation queue, so it's posted now. I'm going to put replies in both places, because I'm anal like that. Blogger has not been sending me comment notifications lately, so I'm forever behind.

Let's see, on #7 Lauren is the ponytail one, because she has no bangs and Stephanie does. Which I am just realizing now and that makes any confusion on #6 now go away.

Gahdammit, no one does these pictures justice. This project is going to have to be put on hold until I can get to storage and bring mine home to scan. How can I critique covers I can't see? Argh. I've also forgotten the background cast's names, so having the books to reference will help with the post.

Except Shane. I will never forget Shane. And Igor.

Considering how often I go looking for book covers for various things (I see you, poor abandoned SVH recaps), it is amazing how sometimes you can find a zillion crystal clear pictures and then you wait a couple of months and the internet has most decidedly lost each and every one. It boggles the mind. I look forward to the seeing the finished result whenever the universe allows. :)
