Day 2: Favorite Spooky movie


Since horror movie is another prompt entirely, we'll think a little differently on this. Cass, Ari, and I saw The Others opening night, if memory serves, or perhaps during a preview before it opened? Frick if I know. I do remember that whenever Dad is mentioned and stories are swapped, the tale of how he duped us with this movie is always brought up. We asked for a ride to the movies and we got one. I don't remember if we had to pay or if he did or if it was free if you showed up in time. Doesn't matter, really, because if nothing else the ride to the eye-sore was enough. Normally Dad would negotiate the terms of his favors up front. Not so for this and we thought we'd gotten away scot-free since he'd gone to see another movie at the same time.

Nope. We made it home and the sleepover continued and in the morning, after breakfast dishes piled up and my brother brought down his endless parade of dishes... yup. The three of us got dish duty. None of this has anything to do with the movie, really, other than the fact that all three of us considered the movie worth the price of dishes being done. Nasty, nasty dishes.

Anyway, The Others is a movie I loved when I saw it, and I'm normally not big on movies I'm crammed into a packed theater with a zillion other people. But it worked because it was a journey, dammit. And it was beautifully shot and had just the right amount of jump scares. It was spooky but not gory or gross. The three of us all have (had?) different ideas of what made a good movie and definitely on what made a good scary movie, and this one managed to deliver for all of us. The only downside is that it's never as good as it was the first time you see it.

Mums and I went out on our travels yesterday and once more I failed to find my Toil and Trouble witchy kitty with cauldron. I did, however, pick up a nifty mug that I'll share later, and a couple of things from Target. I also fell in love with these nice greeting cards at World Market but they didn't have any prices and I didn't feel like going back out to the car, grabbing my wallet, and then coming back only to find out they were something stupid like 9.99. And you might ask, why not just inquire before leaving the store. Because I'd feel obligated to buy it anyway. I don't make up the rules in my head, ok?

Anyway, Target had two of the Marvel Rising dolls, but I'd promised myself I could only buy certain characters (America!) and Quake and whichever dude is in that assortment were not on that list. I did seriously debate breaking my rule but then this obnoxious woman with her equally obnoxious kids turned the corner and I had to escape before I lost my damn mind. Alas, they followed me to Halloween and her voice set my teeth on edge. I'd say it was like nails on a chalkboard but that has never actually bothered me. However you get the idea.

Gonna go paint my nails and then head to bed.
