AG: Fall Release Part 2
Oct. 7th, 2019 07:58 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Last week we did the historical side of the AG launch. I meant to do part two, as I had 85% of it written up, but the site was a complete shitshow and I didn't want to navigate it anymore. Part of me wants to agree with those calling for whomever made the blasted thing to be fired, but actually, I want the person who decided to go with this poor IT turtle fired. Because you don't get a site this bad without someone having made a decision to not pay someone, somewhere, properly. This is revenge levels of bad.
Anyway. To follow-up on a couple of things from last week- Felicity was found and did not join Molly in the Upside Down. Costco dolls should be showing up soon- this week maybe? Site is still bad but not completely useless like it was for most of last week.

Snow Good To See You Outfit // $32
Item#GGL98
Dolls will feel ready for a flurry of holiday festivities in this outfit, featuring:
A cozy red snowflake-print sweater with an attached-collar undershirt
Stylish slim-fit twill pants with real front and back pockets
Gray socks and self-tie boots
AG giveth and AG taketh away. The sweater with fake shirt is annoying. It has always been annoying and it will almost always be annoying. I don't really have any intense feelings towards this either way. I'm happy that AG is doing things that are more neutral but I do wish that the site showed it on anyone other than the boy classic mold. So creepy. Fitting for October, I suppose.

12 Days Til Christmas Set // $40
Item#GDX58
Count down the magical days until Christmas with daily surprises inspired by a night out at The Nutcracker! Enjoy the surprise each day, or expand the details to read everything that’s inside!
An invitation card for her doll to attend The Nutcracker, with two ballet tickets inside
Fancy satin gloves to wear to the performance
A pretend chocolate in the shape of a nutcracker
A sparkly organza wrap for a fancy touch
A red bow-shaped ring that fits her finger
A pearly white bracelet for dressing up
A blue headband inspired by the one Clara wears in the ballet
A golden envelope-style purse with a metal chain and red sparkle accent to hold her tickets
A program booklet from the ballet to take home as a keepsake
A cup and saucer designed for the doll to hold as she “sips” tea before the performance
A sparkly snowflake ornament for a festive gift
A full-length, beautifully illustrated miniature version of the classic book The Nutcracker Ballet your girl can read to her doll
Part of the Truly Me™ Nutcracker Collection.
I wish AG had stuck to either leaning into their Nutcracker blue and white theme or gone with the wanting to match the red sequin outfit this year instead of doing a combo of both. Sigh. I like this well enough but seeing the purse right by the blue & white stuff is making my eyes twitch. It's worse seeing it all on a doll wearing that red dress, btw. So, so ugly. But as a part of the Nutcracker collection, it's pretty nice. I can't complain about the price as these specialized not!advent calendars are always pricy. Discussion on this did go into wank territory a bit as various people got into a pissing contest over knowing the difference between the 12 Days of Christmas/advent/and whatever this is types of calendars. My eyes can only roll so much before they hurt.

Decked Out Holiday Dress // $36
ItemGDX55
It’s time to shine! American Girl dolls will sparkle head to toe at every festive celebration in this outfit, featuring:
A fancy dress with a sparkly multicolor sequin bodice, full tulle skirt, and silver satin bow at the waist
A silver glitter headband with sparkly rhinestones and a matching rhinestone ring
Red glitter shoes with silver satin bows
A fluffy white faux-fur wrap with rhinestone buttons to keep her warm
Okay, so if this is silver and red, why the hell is the purse to the advent calendar gold and red? Oh, yeah, the sequins are silver, gold, and red. I... don't know how I feel about this. I want to like it more than I actually do. I feel weird not being in love with a holiday AG dress. It does come with its accessories, which is a nice change of pace for AG. I don't happen to love them but they're there.

Cookie Baking and Decorating Set // $35
Item#GDX57
American Girl® dolls can whip up some fun in the kitchen for the holidays! This festive set includes:
Three color-changing gingerbread cookies! They look plain until your girl “decorates” them using cold water and the piping bag, and then colorful frosting patterns appear. Change the cookies back to plain gingerbread by dipping them in warm water to enjoy playtime over and over again.
A red mixing bowl that can be filled with cold or warm water to make the cookies change color
Cookie dough to prepare with the striped rolling pin that spins like the real thing
Two cookie cutters so she can pretend to cut the cookie shapes
A metal baking sheet that fits all three cookies
A cookie recipe card
A pretend timer to make sure the treats bake just right
A pink spatula for lifting cookies off the sheet
A snowflake-print apron that ties in back to keep her clothes neat while she bakes
So, I thought this was just cute when I saw it, and cuter still when I saw it a bit closer in someone's pictures, but when I read the bit about color changing it went from "that's nice, dear" to "GIMME!" Normally color change isn't a feature I lose my shit over but apparently it is this time. Who knew?

Not available at American Girl® Outlet, Chapters™, Indigo, Amazon, Kohls, or Barnes & Noble retail locations or websites. Limit of 3 per order.
Thought I'd include all the exclusions on this one just because. I'm not a big Elf fan, but I do like that this set is practically a steal, compared to other AG items, at "only" $20.

Snow Graceful Ice Skates // $18
Item#GJD56
She can twirl on the ice with these figure skates, featuring furry cuffs and silver elastic laces. Includes a pair of glittery skate guards. Layer it with other mix-and-match pieces to create fun new styles!
They're ice skates. I live in the south and yet I have a billion doll sized ice-skates. Don't need nor do I want another pair.

Snow Much To Do Boots // $15
Item#GJD57
Add a touch of glam to any winter outfit with these black boots. They have stacked heels, furry trim, and buckle accents on the sides. Layer it with other mix-and-match pieces to create fun new styles!
Maybe I've just been watching too much Designing Women lately (not possible!) but I saw these and thought of Suzanne immediately. I'll let you decide whether that's a good or a bad thing.

Snow Warm Winter Leggings // $15
Item#GJD53
These winter-inspired essentials are the perfect choice for layering looks on the go. Includes white cable-knit leggings and sparkly silver tights. Layer it with other mix-and-match pieces to create fun new styles!
Behold: tights! Leggings! Ooh. Ahh.

Purr-fectly Warm Winter Accessories // $10
Item#GDX24
She can stay cozy and look purr-fect on cold days. These chic earmuffs feature sparkly cat ears for a little personality, and come with fingerless knit gloves with silver heart embroidery. Layer it with other mix-and-match pieces to create fun new styles!
This was Cass's guess on my purchase before I told her that I'd bought something from the historical side. I mean, she's not wrong- cat ears say "buy meeeeeeeeeeee." Btw, based on how quickly the last MnM set went, I wouldn't wait on anything you like in the Mix n Match section.

Let it Snow Winter Top // $12
Item#GJD52
A flurry of winter fun! This top features a gold-and-silver foil “let it snow” graphic, and white faux-fur cuffs for a fancy touch. Layer it with other mix-and-match pieces to create fun new styles!
I hate those furry cuffs. People who actually experience winter- are those kind of cuffs as annoying as they seem? Is this a thing they just do for movies or doll outfits? But I do like the look of this as part of an outfit.

Winter Sparkles Skirt // $10
Item#GJD55
Inspired by a winter sky, this skirt features floaty layers of tulle printed with silver stars. Metallic elastic waist adds a hint of shimmer. Layer it with other mix-and-match pieces to create fun new styles!
Well damn, aren't you pretty?

Snow Much to See Winter Vest // $18
Whether she’s off to a holiday party or dashing through the snow to school, this sparkle-knit vest will keep her cozy and chic. It features a bold black-and-white plaid pattern, button details at the front, and a removable scarf to match. Layer it with other mix-and-match pieces to create fun new styles!
Mmkay. AG, your MnM stuff was kinda meant to be the sort of thing you pop into a store and buy as an impulse or a treat or to create your own outfit and not realize you were spending more than the company would've charged for the same products. But that means charging $18 for a vest is insane. No, you don't get to pretend that part of the price is for the scarf because it's never shown without the scarf so you clearly think of it as one piece. Stop increasing prices just because you can. Stop it. $15 for this would've been pushing it, nifty though it is. Also, this doll is not wearing pants. Just that weird white shirt with the fluffy cuffs and some cream leggings. The more I think about this outfit, the weirder it gets.

Warm and Cozy Winter Hat and Shawl // $15
Item#GJD58
It’s easy for dolls to stay warm and cozy during winter activities with this chic set! It includes a sparkling silver sequin hat with a gray faux-fur pom-pom and stylish white faux-fur shawl with pom-pom ties. Layer it with other mix-and-match pieces to create fun new styles!
I mean... it exists. I'm just wondering whose bright idea it was to put this on a curly haired doll.

Wondrous Wishes PJs // $20
he WellieWishers love getting cozy to celebrate the most wondrous time of the year! These festive pajamas feature:
A soft cotton top with snowflake print and button details
Candy-cane-striped leggings with an embroidered snowflake
Fluffy white slippers with golden embroidered stars at the toes
I can't tell if I want these or I'm just content to know that they exist. They're cute and they're doll PJs, but given how much of a pain in the ass navigating the site is with this update, anything that doesn't make me swoon is getting the short end of my attention span. Sometimes I wish for the shared Wellie stuff (so, y'know, ALL of it), they'd show it on everyone. This seems like a strange wish from someone who owns exactly one Wellie and it's the Wellie shown, but still.

Warm Wishes Pajamas // $24
Item#GDX54
American Girl dolls are ready to snuggle in for bed time and sugarplum dreams. These snowy pajamas feature:
A snowflake print soft cotton top with button details and contrast piping
Cotton pants with a snowflake print
Furry white slippers with a golden embroidered star on the toes
FINALLY. PJs that aren't $30+. My only complaint with these is that it took me two days, literally two days, to realize they hadn't just re-released the star PJs that look damn near identical to these. Otherwise these are cute and I love them as doll PJs but they are terribly impractical for people PJs. Think of the stains. D:

New Bitty outfits include the Warm As Can Be outfit which is $28, Wondrous Wishes PJs for $24, and the Deck The Halls dress for $28.
There's probably more BB stuff but honestly I can't tell what's new and what isn't and the site doesn't just consider the stuff that JUST released new. They're still calling stuff from June new. *shrug*
The Nutcracker stuff isn't coming out til Nov. 8th maybe and I'm sad we don't have a Halloween costume available though I suppose these things happen. I think the mod monster one is still available through backdoor/Google search but I won't swear to it.
When I went back to double check to see if I'd missed anything last week, I lingered a little more over the new historical goodies and if they weren't priced so damn high, I'd probably have sacrificed whatever was left of my Halloween budget and bought something already beyond the one thing I did snag. Sometimes when they do a big historical launch, they still managed to give all the good stuff to the other lines but this time I think the historicals won by a landslide. Probably because there isn't a ton for the other lines but also some real care went into this release.
Now. If you'll excuse me, it looks like Halloween threw up all over my living room.
Anyway. To follow-up on a couple of things from last week- Felicity was found and did not join Molly in the Upside Down. Costco dolls should be showing up soon- this week maybe? Site is still bad but not completely useless like it was for most of last week.
