impy: Lorelai Gilmore making her forks fight with the text 'Take That!' (crazy)
[personal profile] impy
Thursday was the new AG release. No new historical stuff (guess they're saving all that for Courtney in the fall? Though they did say something about celebrating the Rewards anniversary so who knows) but the Truly Me line got their overdue Meet revamp and some other stuff.

First though, I should mention that for whatever reason, it looks like #58 and #47 have been spared from retirement. Huzzah! 28, 56, and 63 (all three with short hair) have not made the jump to the new outfit, so I assume they're goners.

We've got a lot of Truly Me stuff, a couple of Joss things, and a couple of Wellie things, though far more of that was released. I'm just only sharing the WW stuff I'll likely be picking up.

New Truly Me Dolls/Meet Outfits:

Truly Me #83 // $110
Item#GNB57
Hazel Eyes, Curly Light-Blond Hair, Light Skin Tone

I think this is one of the few cases where I like the promo pics more than I liked the in person shots? It's why, despite not being my favorite of the trio of newbies, she's the one you get to see with the new accessory set. Not!Shakira here I think has the palest vinyl, like Blaire.

Truly Me #54 // $110
Item#GNB58
Brown Eyes, Wavy Black-Brown Hair, Light Skin Tone

So. My favorite of the bunch has the worst promo pics. Ain't that always the way? I don't need another Jess mold just because she's got super long hair and maaaaaaaaybe the lightest vinyl, but I must admit, my love knows no reason.

Truly Me #85 // $110
Item# GPG12
Brown Eyes, Curly Black-Brown Hair, Dark Skin Tone
Choose a friend that celebrates who your girl is inside and out. A leader on the sports field. A star on the stage. A whiz in the classroom. With Truly Me, every girl can tell her own story of who she is and who she wants to be.
The 18" Truly Me™ doll has lifelike eyes that open and close smoothly, realistic hair that can be styled, a soft cotton body, and a movable head and limbs made of smooth vinyl.
She arrives wearing:
A star-print dress
A nylon bomber jacket with a star graphic on the chest
Pink molded glitter sneakers

Gee. Wonder why AG was trying to shuffle 58 out the door. As far as I can tell based on actual photos of 85 here, she's the darkest vinyl. She's gorgeous, though I have to admit that since I'm fairly certain her hair is the same style (if not color) as Cecile's, 26's, and Gabriela's, I wish she had the shorter wig so she really would just be 58 in a darker skintone. If we can have all the blondes in all the options... (I know, I know, it'd never fly.) She's also one of the only dolls actually selling this new outfit for me.
Speaking of which, I don't know how I feel about the new outfit. I think it's one where I like the dress and the jacket okay, but not together? Maybe I just don't like that color used on the jacket or maybe the star print on the dress just isn't quite doing it for me. Whatever it is, meh. I don't hate it and it's not the worst they've ever done. It just feels not quite right to me. Also, still hate the plastic shoes. Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaate.

Sparkle and Shine Accessories // $30
It’s fun and easy to get ready for an extra-sparkly day with the items in this set. It includes:
A star-print mesh skirt with an elastic waist that can be layered over a dress or leggings
A pair of silver leggings
A pink belt with a star buckle
A blue headband with a cluster of glittery stars
A purple glitter purse with a silver strap
Five faux dollar bills
A phone and a phone case a doll can hold with two reversible screens

On the one hand, I love aqua/pink/purple/silver. On the other hand, those stars on the headband and belt are going to peeeeeeeeeeeeeel right off given enough time. I also don't love it as a supplemental set for the Meet outfit. I still think Claudia could work some magic with those pieces, but not for $30. (I love the shade of purple used for the purse though. SO MUCH.)

New Boy Meet Outfit shown on 77 // $110
He arrives wearing:
A heathered-gray collared shirt with contrasting blue sleeves and an AG logo on the chest
A pair of denim pants
Briefs
Multicolored sneakers

I like this better than their last Meet outfit but it's not enough to make me throw down the money for this guy, either. Just not a deal breaker, I suppose.

Casual and Cool Accessories // $30
Item#GNB56
Be ready for anything the day brings with this set. It includes:
A zip-front corduroy vest with a Sherpa collar and pocket flaps
A plaid backpack with an AG graphic that zips open and fits on the doll’s shoulders
A black faux digital watch
A shark-print water bottle
Five faux dollar bills
A phone and phone case a doll can hold with two reversible screens

Can't tell if AG is being a bit sexist in assuming the apple watch should go to the boys, or if they're being crafty and giving people a reason to actually buy this set, too. I am, however, laughing at this poor kid having to wear a vest and long sleeves when it's 77 degrees outside.

Be Creative Outfit // $28
Item#GNB61
When dolls are in the studio making art, they need an outfit that can get a little bit messy as they express their creativity. It includes:
A simple white short-sleeved tee
A multicolored dress with a paint-splatter print
Cute pink boots
A glitter star barrette

*grabby hands* NEED. I'm getting 90's flashbacks pretty hardcore and that includes some of the older Girl of Today stuff that I wanted. If I had any extra cash, I'd be throwing it towards this outfit ASAP. As it is, I might cave on payday.

Art Class Set // $50
Item# GNB62
Get creative! Express artistic flair through painting and pottery—including pieces with special color-change technology—with this creative set that features:
A plastic easel that folds up for easy storage
A color-change canvas that has a hidden image of flowers in a vase that appears when cold water is applied
A painted canvas with an image of a cactus scene
A cup that attaches to the easel to hold paints and brushes
A flat paintbrush and a round paintbrush with realistic bristles
A paint palette to mix colors
Five pretend paint tubes
A bucket to hold water for rinsing brushes
A color-change vase that turns different colors when cold water is applied
A potter’s wheel that really spins and holds the vase
Two sculpting tools to mold clay
A foam sponge that can be dipped in water to change colors on the vase

The color change bits are pretty clever and should this ever go on sale, I very well might pick it up. I'm amused at the static painting being of cacti because I'm having Saige flashbacks. Also, I see you, AG, with your not!Claudia there. I see and I approve.

Student Council Election Outfit // $34
Item#GNB59
Help candidates get ready for the big class-president election in this stylish outfit. It includes:
A pink velveteen jacket
A crisp white shirt with a collar to help make a good first impression
A blue necktie with a bow worn to one side
A woven plaid skirt
A pair of ribbed tights
A pair of loafer shoes
A plaid headband to match the skirt
A clipboard that holds a piece of paper where she can write down her agenda
A pen to have other students sign the candidate’s petition

That jacket is aggressively pink to the degree tht I cant really see anything beyond it. And when I do, I see a huge ass bow and my brain just shuts down after screaming, "Blair Waldorf does not approve of the pink!" Which is my way of saying that I would probably actually love the hell out of this if the jacket didn't set my eyeballs on fire each time I try to look at it. Going to have to see what it's like without the jacket, as I think this could work really well for Shannon costume times at Halloween...

Student Council Election Set // $50
Item#GNB60
It’s class-president election time, so get busy campaigning with fellow students with this set. It includes:
A card table with removable metal legs to set up the candidate’s election headquarters
A “VOTE” banner that attaches to the table
A voice recording megaphone that can record up to 10 seconds of a voice and play it back
A class president ballot box that opens so ballots can be retrieved
Four ballot sheets to cast votes for class president
Three “VOTE” buttons that can attach to outfits
A sticker sheet with removable stickers that can be used again and again
A pretend pencil to make notes or take down names

Hate the shade of blue used on the VOTE banner when it's paired with red. That's really my only complaint beyond not really wanting to spend $50 on this and I do think that aside from the table and megaphone, you could probably very easily make this yourself. It wouldn't necessarily be as polished, but you could do it. But it's cute and hey, maybe it'll get kids interested in voting... even if I never once had a heated student council vote, no matter how much TV/books wanted to make it a thing. I think I vaguely remember maybe voting one year? But I don't remember there being a cutthroat competition for it, alas.

Explore The Parks Outfit // $28
Item#GMN80
Take a hike and find new adventures in all the great outdoor spots around the country. This nature-loving set includes:
A short-sleeved tee with an outdoor adventure graphic
A pair of jogger pants with a knit waist and ankles, plus real pockets
A print buff scarf with a fabric closure to keep her hair back while she hikes
A pair of stripe-print sandals

I don't know shit about hiking, but I do know those sandals will fuck your feet up, man. But they're pretty as hell and I like them almost as much as I don't love the combo of pink and olive. :P I like the pieces of this set (except maybe you, scarf, but maybe you just don't go with anything here) and I love those shoes, but mygod, I loathe them together.

image host image host image host
Explore The Parks Accessories // $45
Item#GMN79
With so many great outdoor spaces, it’s time to travel, explore, and get closer to nature with this set. It includes:
A print backpack with webbed straps, a flap closure, and loops to hold the sleeping bag
A mountain-print sleeping bag
A pair of sturdy lace-up hiking boots
A pair of two-tone socks
A pair of sunglasses with green frames and a striped print on the side
Two National Parks bumper stickers
A field journal booklet

AHA. There are the boots for hiking! And also the tie in for the scarf. Still, thrown all together, the outfit and its accessories tip into way too much territory for me. That said, I dig the theme and them doing something different. This set and its outfit are on my maybe on sale list. I'm also reminded of Inky and her touring the various National Parks. ALSO also, given the way he who should not be keeps trying to gut the parks, I love that AG is coming out with support, no matter how vague, for them.

American Girl Kitchen // $275
Item#GNB65
Let’s get cooking! From baking a pie or pizza to whipping up a delicious breakfast for friends, this set has everything a doll needs for kitchen prep, storage, and serving. It includes:

A refrigerator with an icemaker that dispenses two ice cubes and makes two sounds—pouring water and ice cubes falling into a glass! Plus, the light turns on when the door is opened.
A stove with four burners that each make a different sound and an oven with color-change technology that “bakes” the pizza and pie, plus a timer that “dings” when it’s done!
A kitchen island with a counter work area, sink, and shelves for storage underneath
A stand mixer that really spins
A color-change pie that’s activated when put in the oven and oven is turned “on”
A pie pan to bake a lemon meringue pie
A color-change pizza that “cooks” when put in the oven. Turn on the oven and watch it cook!
A pizza box
A pizza pan and cutter for the frozen pizza
A floral apron and a matching hot pad for getting food out of the oven
A towel for drying dishes
A mixing bowl for whipping up favorite recipes
A spatula, whisk, and mixing spoon
A set of measuring cups
A set of measuring spoons
A kettle to heat water for coffee or tea
Two spice jars
A salt grinder and a pepper grinder
A flour container and a sugar container
A place setting for two including two plates, two forks, two spoons, and two knives
Two drinking glasses
A cheese grater and a cheese wedge to grate over pizza or pasta
A frying pan to cook bacon and eggs
A box of pancake mix
A short stack of pancakes with a pat of butter
A fried egg and six eggs in a carton
Two slices of bacon and a bacon box
A bottle of syrup to pour over pancakes
A butter dish
A bowl of lemons
A stock pot to cook soups or stews
A full milk jug
A lemonade pitcher
Four ice pops and an ice pop mold to make treats in the freezer
A bag of salad and a bottle of salad dressing
A rug to decorate your kitchen
A pad of paper to write down grocery lists
A calendar to help with meal planning

Pardon me while I fucking cry in the corner because I love this so much and I did not expect to since the last kitchen didn't strike the same chord in me. But PURPLE KITCHEN. GIMME. Alas, between the price and the size, I will have to live without it. But I want it. So much. And all the people bitching about how ugly/garish it is can kiss my ass.

Teatime Table and Chairs // $100
Item#GNB66
It’s time for tea! Host a fancy afternoon tea with this set that includes:
A painted metal table where dolls can enjoy a dinner or tea party
Two painted metal chairs with flower-print cushions that tie to the chair backs
A floral-print table runner that matches the seat cushions
Two blue placemats
Two pink plastic plates
Two pink teacups with a flower graphic and two blue plastic saucers
A tiered platter to hold all the teatime treats
Two diagonal-cut crustless sandwiches
Two groups of macarons for a special treat
Two tarts with berries on top
Two cloth napkins

Hey, not!Abby. Good to see you again. I'm not as in love with this, but I think it's because I'd prefer the granny print with a lighter chair color. This feels a bit like they threw a few sets together and hoped for the best, but since I can also sit here and think of various characters when looking at it, I can't help but feel it's a bit smart, too. If someone else looks at this and says hey, this is perfect for Grace and Blaire to open up their new restaurant and then forks out the cash? Good on you, AG.

Spaghetti Dinner Set // $35
Item#GNB68
There’s nothing yummier than Italian food—who doesn’t love spaghetti? Set up a big doll dinner with this set that includes:
A Dutch oven with a lid to hold the spaghetti and meatballs
Three servings of spaghetti with meatballs
A spaghetti serving spoon
Two servings of salad
Two pieces of garlic bread
Two plates and two metal forks
Two water glasses with a lemon slice
Two cloth napkins
A parmesan cheese wedge
A metal cheese grater

That salad looks so gross. Green brains, maybe? *shudder* Plus side, the sketti looks tastier than usual. I'm officially old as I want the Dutch oven there. Also, I'd really like some garlic bread, actually.

image host image host
Chinese Takeout Set // $25
Item#GNB67
Why not just chill tonight? Order dinner in, and just hang out while enjoying some delicious Chinese dishes. This set includes:
A reusable paper takeout bag with a fabric closure
A Chinese restaurant takeout menu
Two takeout containers with tops that close to keep food for later
One serving of white rice
Two servings of lo mein noodles
One serving of sesame chicken
One set of fortune cookies that separate into two parts so fortunes fit inside
Five paper fortunes that can be placed inside the fortune cookies
A fortune cookie bag
Two sets of chopsticks the doll can hold
Two cans of sparkling water

I will never understand the sparkling water craze, but now I wish very much for some crab rangoon. Sigh. Which is to say this is cute but I likely won't buy it because I rarely buy the food sets. I'm happy for the people who are excited, though. :)

Time To Sparkle Watch // $8
Item#GNB83
Tell the world she was born to sparkle with this graphic watch with a purple sparkle band.

  It's a watch that's purple. Ooh, ahh.

image host image host image host image host
Sparkle Gem Earring Set // $10
Item#GNB85
Feeling fancy? Accessorize with earrings from this sparkly set. Includes one pair of turquoise pearl earring studs, one pair of purple glitter crown earrings, one pair of pink bow earrings, and one pair of blue gem earrings.

Love the gems, kinda eh on everything else.

image host image host
Sparkle Gem Bracelet Set // $10
Item#GNB84
Show off her fancy side with this sparkly set. Includes one blue beaded bracelet, one purple beaded bracelet, and one charm bracelet with a gem charm on a silver elastic cord.

I'm starting to regret saying I liked this color combo... Also, I know it's just a glorified hair elastic, but I do love the silver one. So basic, self. So basic.

image host image host
Rose Gold Glasses // $10
Item#GNB86
These semi-transparent rose gold glasses have slightly rounded frames. Made to fit 18" dolls. Includes a felt case for safekeeping.

You say rose gold, I say peach.

image host image host image host image host
Joss's Beach Jumper // $28
Item#GNF60
When Joss visits Huntington Beach pier to get milkshakes with Sofia, she wears this California bright and beachy outfit that includes:
An orange jumper with shoulder straps and real pockets on the front and back
A white T-shirt
A pair of tennis shoes with rainbow graphics on the sides

They say orange, I say coral. I will wind up with this outfit for the shoes, man. I'm not as sold on the outfit itself, as it's one of those that kind of straddles the line between somehow babyish and somehow not? Like it's something that looks very different depending on the age of the person wearing it, if that makes sense. Probably not as AG dolls are kinda stuck looking about the same age, but yeah. Like my favorite TM outfit, this one is giving me flashbacks. Still, this is cheery as hell.

Joss's Beach Grill Set // $55
Item#GNF61
After a long day in the waves, Joss and her surf crew are hungry! They can cook up a delicious meal right on the beach with this set. It includes:
A portable grill with color-change technology that “cooks” the food—they get grill marks after being exposed to the special lighting inside! It has legs that fold up and side tables that detach so it fits in the surf bus.
A pair of tongs to remove the food from the grill
Two corncobs that get grill marks when exposed to the special lighting
Two color-change kabobs that can be “cooked” on the grill
Two tamales that change color to look charred when they’re on the grill
Two beach drinks with straws to cool down
Two plates with multicolored artwork

I want those plates for meeeeeeeeeee. I think the cooking gimmick is cute and clever, though I have to say seeing purple light cook food is weirding me out more than a little. Otherwise eh. This is another item in this release that I appreciate existing but I don't need, though I hope it sparks the same sense of longing in a kid that the little mini Webber grill from ye olden times did for me.

The Wellies got a fair amount of new stuff, too, but I'm just going to show you the stuff I want. If you're dying for a Wellie roundup proper, ask and I'll put it back in.

Starry Sky Pajamas for Wellie Wishers // $24
Item#GNC04
The WellieWishers can fall asleep counting the stars to the sound of the crickets in these PJs. They feature:
A pajama top and pajama pants with WellieWishers-inspired constellations
A cozy pair of slippers
A fuzzy hooded blanket with embroidery on the corner

It took me entirely too long to figure out that the weird photo with the towel on the doll's head was the PJ set I fell in love with when looking at the tent. Anyway, Emerson is finally gonna get her PJs, I think. These are SO CUTE. I like the blanket but it looks weird on the doll as intended and the slippers are oh so meh. The PJs themselves are love and I need, thanks.

image host image host image host
Ready To Learn Backpack and Lunch Set // $25
Item#GNB98
When it’s time to take a break, the WellieWishers gather to share some food and fun. This school-day set includes:
A backpack with a fox face and plenty of pockets to fit everything she needs
A magnifying glass
A pair of purple glasses
A ruler with flowers on the end
A pink folder with three pieces of paper
A pink lunch bag with embroidered flowers to hold the sandwich and juice box
A sandwich she can share with her friends
A juice box to sip on during lunch

Is this here simply because the glasses are adorable? ...maybe. But I do also like the rest of the stuff. It almost makes me want the outfit it's paired with, but mostly I think I just really like the headband from that set.

image host image host
Double the Fun Sleepover Set // $35
Item#GNB70
It’s sleepover time! Dolls will be all set for a night of games and giggles with friends. This set includes:
A snack-food-print hooded blanket with plush lining to stay cozy while watching movies, playing games, or just hanging out
One pair of socks with cookies and milk graphics. These socks form a surprise message when put together!
One pair of socks with peanut butter and jelly graphics. These socks form a surprise message when put together!
A mini Dos card game
A mini quiz book to play “This or That”
A “cookies and milk” themed plate
Four chocolate chip cookies so there are plenty to share
Two strawberry milk glasses with straws

I don't know why AG makes these things so freakin' hard to find by not putting all the new stuff together, but I got curious after seeing the Wellie PJs, so I looked and found the TM set and the accessories for it, as well. This is cute but I never wind up buying these things. I do love the fact that you get two pairs of socks. I still don't think the hooded blanket works for most of AG's dolls, though. Cute print, however.

Let's Sleepover PJs // $24
Item#GNB69
Pizza, popcorn, movies—and besties! That’s what makes a great sleepover, and dolls are ready to slumber—or stay up all night—in these PJs. Includes:
A long-sleeved pink PJ top with a crew neck, and a gold print graphic
A pair of PJ shorts with an allover snack-food print and ruffled hem
A pair of cozy blue slippers with a donut on each toe

Each foot, AG. Not each toe. The lack of extra donuts aside, I like this. Yes. I complained that the pink jacket earlier was too eye-searing but then go and like this. I never claimed to make sense. Probably doesn't hurt that I saw it on 85 initially.

If I missed anything, dude, tell AG to fix their stupid site. :P Also, I'll edit in later, I suppose. Bitty got stuff, but since none of it's coming here, I skipped it.
