Court sneak peek round whatever
Sep. 14th, 2020 02:41 amOkay, since I will be working all week instead of being off Monday night and thus possibly able to stay up for AG to properly release Courtney, we're going to do kind of a mini impressions of her stuff now, in case work winds up kicking my ass and I can't muster up too much energy for Courtney's Official Debut.
So this is a sneak preview with more thoughts to come. Obviously you are encouraged to chime in. Where possible, I will attempt to share fandom's thoughts on things but I have to admit that I've been rather spacey lately and thus haven't been reading too much in the way of commentary.
Did little collages of the pics people posted before AG yoinked 'em, so all further thoughts and pics shall be under a cut.

Courtney the doll is meh for me. I don't *love* her and I really don't like how frequently she shows up in pictures looking like they forgot to give her lip color of any kind. But I'll be damned if her Meet outfit hasn't managed to win me over. I can't really lay claim to any fond memories of this fashion look because I was all of 4/5 in '86 but the boots and skirt are particularly on point for vague 80's memories so. There's that. I should note that her Meet accessories didn't have their own little promo image so I didn't include the placeholder here. Technically we saw them in the box image before, and they still seem a little chintzy though I gather the walkman actually 'works.'
Pac-Man arcade game. Look. I need to know more. I don't really see myself buying it, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at all interested. :P
Courtney's Bedroom Set. JFC that price tag HURTS. I... kinda like it more than I did initially because of the amount of stuff going on. That said, it still looks very, very flimsy and I am forever impressed (not a good thing) by how thin and cheap AG makes their mattresses look. Usually the rest of the bed distracts from this but uh, not the case here. Still. I want to see EVERYTHING. People are less than thrilled that the clear phone is bundled with this but I figure this is just the Courtney version of AG bundling McKenna's hamster with the bed. Something to entice you. Also, by now you should hear 2020's Claudia Kishi assure you that the phone is iconic.
Courtney's Caboodles & Hair Accessories Kit
Am I really debating spending more on a doll's Caboodle than I ever did on my own? Um, yes. Yes I am. Who knew? I remember falling in love with my Aunt Joan's Caboodle and wishing desperately I had one but I didn't get one until I was an adult. Boo. BOO. Anyway, this is definitely one where I need to see the other little bits.
Courtney's Pleasant Company Doll.
I was all set to skip mini Molly and then I saw the mini catalog and FINE. YOU WIN. Take my money.
fandom wise: I am annoyed by the one chick who wants someone to scan in photos of their 80's catalog so she can then print and make a tutorial on making your own mini reproduction catalog. I... seriously? Assuming she manages to get someone who doesn't mind just scanning and sending without any correction, that's still a LOT of work on someone else's part all so she can put it up on her blog and take the credit. o_O
Care Bears PJs:
GIMME. I also love thos socks beyond all reason. BEYOND ALL REASON. Mmm. Blue.

Mix & Match stuffs!
The jacket seems simple but also so 80's it hurts. Like I think I saw no less than eight pop up when I did a quick image search for something yesterday. And just like real jean jackets of the time, it's kinda pricey all things considered.
T-Shirt and Tank Set- The lime green tank is making me think Julie would absolutely steal this. I don't love the tee shirt in this particular shot but I like it in others so this is also on the yes list.
Dig the skirt as I had a similar one, though it was basically tied to another outfit. But it was the same shade of purple so yes. Suspenders pass the nostalgia check even if I never had nor did I particularly want them.
Zack Morris shirt & tie are so insane that YES. Think of this like that time I bought Maryellen's swimsuit for the flamingo aspect.
Sunnies are sunnies are sunnies.
Splatter print dress is a yes and I'll be super surprised if it doesn't wind up backordered real quick.
Every Court outfit with the flats and socks shown screams 80's so loudly it's deafening. Kinda love it.
But I love her high-tops more. I just hate that they're $16. For doll shoes. WHY.

Oh god.
The cropped jacket. Why do I want you so much when each outfit I see made with it makes me laugh so, so much?
Sleepover Set- does the boombox play the tapes? Is Court making mixed tapes? IS SHE? Feel cheated that I never had a boombox. Neither did my brother, so that's at least something consistent from the parentals. I'm eh on the canned drinks as I tend to think that AG drinks are usually scaled too small. Could, in theory, make the fortune teller myself and AG doll snacks almost always look like vomit so my interest in this set rises and falls on the journal (?) and whether the electronics are legit.
Her cardigan is something I waffle back and forth on. On the one hand, I loved me some 80s chunky sweaters. LOVED THEM. On the other hand, I think I wound up with like, one, because dunno if you know this from all my ranting, but it's fucking hot here all the time. :P Also, my god did the sweaters itch.
These jeans are HIDEOUS. And yet they complete so many a look that I must have them. Brain, what is wrong with you?!
Sadly, shamefully, this is probably the part of her collection I most relate to in that I had a serious watch thing as a kid (not that I ever went above like, Kmart cheapies because I killed them all very, very quickly) and I wore a fanny pack entirely too long. So practical though. This is a case of despite being stuff I used back in my time, I'm not sure I'd buy in doll form.
Leggings! Gimme! So disappointed that neither of these are actually stirrup pants though.

Are those little eraser critters? And the pencil box of my dreams? Puffy stickers? Not!Lisa Frank is definitely required, thanks.
Courtney's Fashion Accessories: ...are those little purple lace gloves? My god. Earrings! This does make me wonder if a 90's doll would come with three/four holes in her ears since that was definitely a thing.

Included the ultimate collection because it's a thing and also you can see her Bedtime Bear and her school lunch kit. Honestly, this one little image makes me want all the things and sparks the nostalgia glow something fierce.
Included the little mix and match combos because honestly, they deserve to be seen but also because I crack up each time I see Court in the cropped jacket/jeans/flats combo. EVERY TIME.
Oh, 80's. I think some of this stuff is so ugly that it swings back around to cute. How. Why. What.
I am also very, very tired right now and I don't know why so I'm gonna go pass out.

Date: 2020-09-16 05:35 pm (UTC)Why do I feel like they are throwing shade on the OG AG dolls with that Pleasant Company Molly mini??
SO MUCH NOSTALGIA OMG but I'm also with you in that this is ultimately pretty disappointing. I think its harder because its a period we have actual memories of and know about so there's no suspension of disbelief like there is with the earlier time periods. At this point a 90s doll will be nothing but cringe-city.
