impyI keep starting and deleting entries so we'll go with the fluffiest of them all:
watched Rainbow High on Netflix which is, I think, the first 8 episodes smooshed into one big episode?
Predictably now I want the dolls but since the start of COVID, I've basically just stuck with going to work, the grocery store, and then anything Mums needed. Which is to say I haven't been doll hunting in uh, more than a year? Not in person, anyway. I broke my "only the basics!" rule for a very short Halloween hunt last year but that's been about it.
Basically this means my opinions on the dolls are based on what little I've seen in person (at work) and pictures online. To be fair, in person I've seen exactly three: the first version of Amaya, Violet, and Krystal. I thought Amaya was... I shall be kind and say not my favorite and leave it at that. Violet's stuff is intriguing but she managed to make purple boring. Krystal, however, is likely to follow me home if she's still there on Friday.
But as I do with lines that have a storyline I follow even a little bit, I've got favorites that may not really match-up with their doll counterparts. Woe.
I watched a few of the episodes after the Netflix special but I'd already run past my bedtime so I didn't watch them all, and I didn't watch many of the Vi Life things because Violet is the absolute worst 95% of the time. The woooooooooooorst. Is this based mostly on meeting her and realizing she was too cowardly to tell her best friend she didn't want to room with her so she let her find out the day they moved in and then acting like a dick to said BFF anytime BFF pops up?
I mean...
Yes. That and she's an influencer and if the last couple of years have taught me anything, it's that influencers are, by and large, terrible, terrible people.
Doll wise, eh. I mentioned she bores me but I do like her cheer version because I am a basic, basic bitch who enjoys the cheer lines for dolls.
Sunny is the aforementioned BfF and she is a goddamned ray of sunshine and I love her. Her look isn't really my thing beyond the cute as hell Sailormoon hair, but she's a sweetheart and I would kill for her. The way she just adopts Amaya is just ♥ so sweet. Doll wise I waffle. Since her look isn't a favorite of mine, it means I don't love her doll. But I do love the character so we need a Sunny.
Skyler is probably my next favorite after Sunny and that goes for character and doll. I'm a sucker for blues (please see the nail polish collection for proof) and Skylar's quiet and not as sure of herself as everyone else, but she's also kind, smart, and talented. Love.
Jade is another whose character I like (mostly) but whose doll I'm meh on. Woo for sarcastic character who is super loyal to her friend. Boo for her taking that out on someone who had nothing to do with her best friend (more? are we shipping? I think we're shipping.) getting herself expelled via the stupidest rule in fictional history.
(Seriously: how the actual fuck does Violet get away with filming every goddamn thing but Bella takes one photo, that is submitted and presumably only seen by a handful of people, and is instantly sent packing? Wtf?)
Bella I wanted to throttle for fixating on doing something she knew would get her into trouble but I think the doll is gorgeous. Also, wish they'd had her pull a Nick Fury and be all, "I respect that the school has this rule but given that the rule is stupid as fuck, I've chosen to ignore it." or I dunno, fight against the stupid rule to begin with. JFC.
Poppy is just kinda there which is weird as they kind of spent a fair amount of time on her but it's not til her homesick episode that I connected with her. She's got the single best pair of shoes in the line though so there's that.
Amaya is 100% prettier in her second look and I will absolutely buy that version. Character wise, I love that the absolute moment she realizes that oh fuck, she's being thrown into a really awkward situation, she tries to make it clear she doesn't want to take Bella's place. She just wants the chance to create her own space in the group. I had a bit of a flashback to BSC Abby and her being a joker (hi, forgotten Jessi character trait) as well as the second uber jock when Amaya mentioned that she was into fashion like Skylar. Only Abby shows up in the later third of the series whereas Amaya shows up pretty early on so that's... different.
Ruby's a redhead and I would hope by now you realize this is another weakness for me sooooooooo. Yes. Need. Want. I'm kinda on the fence about her character-wise. Don't dislike her (sorry, Vi, you're kinda on your own there) as her reaction to Colin/Skyler was perfection. But with such a large cast of characters, it's easy to kind of lose people along the way. Also also, I hate that she wears a fanny pack across her chest. It just looks stupid, which I need you to channel your best Julia Sugarbaker for that delivery because that's how it is intended.
This might've started out strong but I am now very, very sleepy so I'm gonna go to bed before I accidentally buy a billion dolls I don't have room for just because they'd look nice in rainbow formation.

Pretty sure the show makes sure to say that anything at RH is off limits but I was willing to pretend they just meant the show but it's still stupid since clearly that rule was enforced exactly once. There had to be an easier way to accomplish the same thing.
Aw, I like Ainsley's voice. And yay, if enough people want her in doll form, perhaps she'll actually get made!
