impyAh, hurricane season. I'm not sure I can remember when I last had a storm threaten my birthday week though. Maybe the summer I had summer school? Yeah, I think that was the last one. So it's been awhile. This is our third storm this year to bring us fringe and I'm a bit vexed that it's happening during my long awaited vacation. On the other hand, I don't have to worry about work so there's that.
Speaking of vacation, it's been mostly good. Before leaving work Sunday, my shift lead gave me a birthday present. :) Sunday night the thing I'd been warning annoying people about came true (namely, that I was one of the only things standing between them and the store being closed) annnnnnnd while I didn't do a damn thing for the 4th, I didn't have to work so we call it a win. The downside is I used to really like the 4th and we never did much, so having it be absolutely nothing is still...weird and I feel like I missed out on something. I suspect part of that is simply being an adult is a never-ending parade of failing to live up to childhood memories and part of it is that work has definitely broken me more than I allow myself to realize.
Monday I went Halloween hunting and it was mostly a bust. The only store with anything out was At Home and while I did find some stuff I'd like, nothing was a LOVE, so I waited. To be fair to the stores, usually my vacation isn't right-right after the 4th, and a few days can absolutely be a game changer for stuff like this. Still, it was a bit meh at the end when I got the joy of standing around waiting for the grocery trip to be doooone. I absolutely hate going to the grocery store during the day. I am most definitely a get up at the asscrack of dawn and go at 6am to avoid people kind of person.
Yesterday as I was getting ready to go swimming, Widget said he might go with me. It took him awhile but he did show up and it was nice having someone to swim with, so I spent longer than normal at the pool and he was pretty chatty. The chattiness kept up after, when I was watching Cold Case.
So of three days so far, I've been swimming twice. I didn't wind up going today (yet) as I wasn't sure of the storm and also the shower yesterday was fabulous but since I wasn't expecting to actually have water pressure in said shower, there was a delayed moment before I could fix the showerhead and the poor bathroom got soaked. Seriously, why is anything other than tile an option for a bathroom floor? Jesus.
All of this sounds pretty dull but dull has its use. Alas, now I have to go brave pre-storm grocery store people again. Ugh.

I either remember FOREVER, even if we never speak again, or I cannot for the life of me remember, no matter how hard I try or if you share a birthday with someone else. Why my brain thinks I need to remember a friend's ex's birthday but not their spouse of more than ten years I will never know.

Date: 2021-07-09 09:06 am (UTC)Usually for my hunting I can hit a small amount of paydirt at the craft stores, At Home, and then the unholy trinity of Home Goods/TJ Maxx/Marshals tends to start putting out a few things right about now and then will really ramp it up come late July/August. I did notice that all the BTS stuff is running late so I'm guessing Halloween itself will be, too. Boo and bullfrogs.
