ow, my back
Aug. 3rd, 2021 03:30 amNote: if you are a fan of glowy blue/aqua polishes and you come across Hitchhiking Ghosts by Polished For Days? Snag that sucker. I've gotten so many compliments and it's the first polish in a very, very long time that I've worn for a full week and went for a full hand instead of swapping in a new color when a nail would chip on ye olde right hand of all the work. It glows and is beautiful. ♥ ♥
I'd like to say I've been productive on my days off but that would be an exaggeration. I did manage to vacuum and gather up some of the laundry downstairs I've been trying to get the nephew to do (and just realized I missed a few pieces, dammit) but my big To Do was tackling one of the two bookcases in the hall upstairs.
After realizing that I did not have my Pike/Stine/90's horror on LibraryThing, I knew this needed to be rectified. The problem is that with the way this place is set up, there's no AC in the upstairs hall and the ceilings are insaaaaaaaaaanely high. We've also been in the midst of a fantastic heatwave so uh, yeah. Still, I woke up relatively early and the upstairs was pretty cool so I got to work and only really regretted it after I realized I should probably clean the top of the bookcase before moving on to shelf 2.
I think, all in all, I wound up scanning in about 200 books. I skipped a few because they're a PITA to switch from scanning to punching in and I'm pretty sure half the bottom shelf is either Cass's stuff or stuff I'd already scanned in at some point. Later confirmed the second part to be true, btw. I do need to go back and double check a couple of books for proper covers as I like to make sure I have the correct covers shown on LT for certain lines/authors. By shelf three I was sweating terribly, and I must confess that shelf 2 turned out to be mostly Betty & Veronica digests with a handful of other books in front of them so it got hot very fast.
Bookcase 2 will probably be easier in terms of scanning and things as I think I'll have less of the Scholastic order form/Book Fair ones that don't have anything to scan and also it's only three shelves to begin with. But it's also got more things to actually clean so it's not getting touched for at least a week. :P
Speaking of books, I had four books requested from me on PBS. Somehow though two of them were not in my box so I don't know what happened to them. I sent the other two Saturday and then when I got today's mail the damn envelope was there with a postage due sticker on it. Technically Mom sent it because she has better luck with the machine usually but I guess she put the postage on the back and now it's like "you owe $4." The fuck I do, USPS. Grr. I'd be less annoyed if the book I'd ordered hadn't come in and seemed okay until five seconds after hitting "yay, I got it and it's problem free!" button... Yeah. The cover was ripped in such a way that it wasn't until you went to actually flip through the book to read it that you noticed that it's got MAYBE one good read left in it before coming apart completely. :/
Lesse. I kind of want to ramble about work but I don't want to jinx things so I'll settle for saying I do not understand the scheduling going on right now.
In AG world, I guess the Wellies are getting their revamp very soon and um, it's ugly as fuck. I cannot believe they're getting rid of their normal outfits and giving them basically costumes (Camille's is definitely a costume) AND charging $5 more. Lemme see if I can find a picture that isn't clearly a screen grab someone will claim as their own.
Okay, because I love you all and I need other people to experience this pain with me:

Old on the bottom for comparison. I will say the dolls for the most part look cuter (sorry, Emerson. You are the exception to this rule.) but the outfits. WHY. WHY. I could understand if the Wellies tended to be rolling in everyday outfits but uh, no. No they are not. Had I known this was coming, I might've ponied up the money and snagged either Kendall or Camille with my AG rewards that died in July. But I didn't so maybe Emerson will live her life as a single Wellie forever more. Before I did the comparison, I thought maybe Ashlyn wasn't so bad but no. She's a serious downgrade as well. Camille should sue. I don't understand why they switched to costumes and what the hell is going on in general. o_O
Enough old lady yelling at kids to get off her lawn. Time to dose myself and wait for the cramps to go away.

Date: 2021-08-04 12:17 pm (UTC)D: I didn't even know they made the Files in a different size. Is it the same size as the hardback random SVHs that they did? Still, weird. Mums and I hit the PO this morning and it was locked, so we had to double-back to go to the other one and she went in to do the mailing (I thought she was just checking the door) and when she handed me the receipt, it was for the same price as the last time we tried this. So now I'm worried they're just going to send them back AGAIN. I'm hoping the problem was that originally she slapped the postage on the back of the envelope because if I have to do this again, I'm going to scream and possibly set fire to those books.
The problem with the Wellies is that at some point after the first run or two of the dolls, they developed a leg problem where a leg will snap off. Soooooo...that's fun. I just don't understand why they'd make the outfits costumes and cheap looking costumes to boot. AG, you don't have a massive margin for error these days!

Date: 2021-08-04 09:20 pm (UTC)Yes, the Files book is a turtleback like the hardcover SVHs. Probably the same size, come to think of it, but they are too big for my teensy bookshelves. (Speaking of SVH, I'm inching ever closer to completing my collection! I'm only missing 5 of the main series books now, I think.)
I hope you have better luck with the PO this time. I know the local one in my parents' hometown is overly fond of the mailing tape, so I guess they all have their quirks. You'd think if the postage is on the package SOMEWHERE, that'd count, but then again, they are rather special...
Ew, yuck, sorry to hear the WWs seem to be cursed! I'm going to Costco sometime soon for TP run so I'll let you know which versions are showing up there.

Date: 2021-08-05 12:29 pm (UTC)Yay! Which 5 elude you?
Overly fond in that they use it for everything or...? And agreed! Especially when the machine bullies you into getting the big ol' stamp (I know you can get the smaller ones but you have to jump through an additional three hoops at least) so where else are you meant to put it?
Huzzah for the Costco report!

Date: 2021-08-05 08:06 pm (UTC)Yes, the local post office used to cover everything in their branded mailing tape. My parents sent me things while I was in Europe and it got to the point where was I like, "can you send me a box cutter to open these packages, plz?" LOL. I mean, the packages were already taped up and ready to go when presented and the USPS taped over the other packing tape, so it was like 3 layers of tape.
I've never used the stamp machines - I buy stamps online and if I mail a package I go to the window because its inevitably awkward shaped.
I just returned from Costco and sadly, there was no AG anything in sight :( This is the first time in a long time that's happened (tho its not like I go to Costco very often). Maybe once back to school and Halloween are over and their Christmas stuff is on display...
My missing SVHs are actually only two! #130 Model Flirt & #131 Fashion Victim. I'm also on the lookout for non-tattered copies of #112 Jessica Quits the Squad (all 3 in this miniseries are SUPER hard to find, I guess everyone loved the Cheerleaders arc), #140 Please Forgive Me, #145 Earthquake, and an OG cover of No Place to Hide.
My lists for SVT and SVU are much longer, LOL, but then, SVH was my first love ♥
