All right. Let's complain because I have a headache that feels like it's massive but hiding and also because I am feeling cranky. Maybe if I vent, I'll feel better. Or not, but at least it won't be rattling around as much in my poor brain.

First up: watched The Suicide Squad last night. I watched the first one and found it to be not terrible. I don't know if people had just set the bar so, so low that it couldn't possibly be that bad to me or what, but it wasn't the worst thing ever. It was also not something I really wanted to watch again so there was that.

If the first SS had a case of fantastic trailer (at least one of them was really good) but terrible movie, I was hoping that the second SS would follow the flipside with terrible trailer but great movie. I was willing to settle for good, or even just an enjoyable romp.

Mmm, no. (Please use the thickest Aussie accent you can for that no, as I was watching Beauty News earlier and their Nos are just adorably cranky.)

I don't know if it's because I had expectations without realizing it or what, but I found the new one to be relatively joyless and just took most things I liked and blew them up. Sometimes literally. I know not a damn thing about *most* of these characters so for all I know it's like, super faithful to the comics, but considering the writer/director just came out and admitted he hadn't bothered to hear of or watch the last Harley led movie, well. Gonna say it doesn't rightfully matter, now does it?

As one of the like, four people who found Captain Boomerang one of the better parts of the first, it wasn't great to watch him basically just show up so they could say hey, if you aren't Harley and you were in the first movie but showed up to set today, you probably aren't making it out of this alive. Might've felt differently if he hadn't died when everyone else died at the start when they thought they were being clever with their "ha, you thought this was the A team? Nonono!" Like dude. Did anyone new in that team look like they were going to make it past being there long enough to give enough footage for their trailer tease? No. No they did not.

Anyway. I liked the rat and King Shark. Harley is always fun. I hated the post credits scene and overall I think I just wasn't the market for this since my biggest issue is that I don't care to see people's skulls blown to bits as realistically as a movie wishes to try, nor do I wish to see them sliced open or just carnage for carnage's sake. I'm squeamish, okay? So while I don't think I really agree with the over-sanitation of violence in like, Marvel movies, I don't really need to see three steps away from torture porn in DC movies either. Find something in the middle here, people, or give me someone to root for while the action is going down. I couldn't really even properly appreciate the jungle carnage scene because you knew damn well they were killing the good guys.

For the movie overall, I'd go with C+, but Sebastian might bump it up to a B-. Or you could just watch a supercut edit with just him and maybe King Shark/Harley and call it a day.

One of my friends said it hit all the beats it needed to, but he's more well versed in comics so maybe for him it was. For me, it was missing something and I don't know what it was.

In less spoilery but more entitled whiny baby rants- I know full well that COVID has fucked up a lot of distribution of things. But I'm getting tired of not being able to snag anything new because companies have decided to not even try. Most of the following examples will be Halloween focused simply because this is the time of year when normally the Halloween stuff hits online and in certain stores and it's also when I tend to do that shopping. But for instance, Cracker Barrel had this super awesome ghost they did this year. But they sent it one per store and had like, 102 online. It sold out immediately, even at its crazy price. Then you had BB&W who put out most of their Halloween stuff early and yup, missed out on the two things I wanted most because they were shortpacked and turns out that even if hell froze and you could order them online (there was a glitch for days where you could see the hand candle holder but couldn't add to cart), they'd show up broken because they aren't packing things properly.
Or my various Amazon preorders for Funkos (Wanda and Agatha are now seriously backordered), or the HP dolls (seriously, wtf) who seem to have gone on walkabout.

There's been other stuff like that, but basically the summer has gone like this:
company: Hey, Impy, there's this cool new thing coming out!
me: you have my attention and I shall set aside money!
company: HA. It's sold out or not available in your area. SUCKER!
me: ..wtf?!

And you might think well, at least you've saved money, right? But no. Groceries and everything have spiked in prices and it's just a shitshow and I am not thrilled at the moment. When I say almost everything I've shown an interest in has sold out or had some fuckery attached to it, I mean it. At this point I feel like people who want things should just pay me to not want them, or companies who want a sell out of something shitty should pay me to want it and voila. My powers can be used for something useful other than making me cranky.

I think I'm gonna go shower now.

That truly is sad about The Suicide Squad. Sounds like James Gunn decided he wanted to take the suicide part literally. I read a bunch of the early comics, and while a lot of the lower tier characters did die, it was the ones nobody cared about. Captain Boomerang is a fan favorite and would never have gotten killed so quickly in the comics.

YUCK. I feel you on the shopping & shipping woes. I've been sticking to in-store shopping when I can, and not even tempting myself if I can possibly help it. Of course, it doesn't help matters that the Post Office is about to raise stamp prices again AND they're going to slow delivery on certain items as well. (Note to self: stock up on stamps before the price hike in 2 weeks.)
