I'm torn. On the one hand my lifelong love of Jason Marsden says one thing, but on the other, I think I still stand by my original opinion: Hocus Pocus is vastly overrated in the Halloween film category.


I decided to re-watch it since I don't think I've seen the whole thing through since it originally came out on video and my initial thought process basically went that's it? because it was hyped even then. I liked it a little more this time around but it's something where I like bits of it more than the whole.

I'm the opposite. I loved it a lot more than I remembered, although I do wish the sisters actually did more. I also really enjoyed the novelization and sequel.

Hrmm, I might have to pick those up. Maybe that's part of my problem: the witches don't get to do as much as if feels like they should. Or maybe it's simply one of those things where the die hard fans are so die hard that it makes it harder to like. Or I'm a Halloween crank with terrible taste. Which, I admit, is most possible as I still think my favorite kid friendly Halloween pick is The Worst Witch.

The first part is the novelization and the second is the sequel. It was way better than I expected.

Wow, really?! I love Hocus Pocus, albeit more because of the witches than the kids.
