impyThought I'd post this while it's still Widget's birthday in some part of the world. Yesterday he turned 21. I am cycling through various feelings (mostly I'm like the cryptkeeper!) about it. I'm glad both of his parents managed to pull their heads out of their asses for the day and kept their promises to him about seeing him, though I wish maybe they could be adult enough to have coordinated it a bit better so he didn't spend the two days before his birthday not knowing WTF.
But I'm one of those people who needs to have plans set in stone so I can panic about them and then have the option to bail because the anxiety has eaten me aliiiiiiiiiiive. And this is for stuff I want to do. :P
Anyway. He started the actual birthday off with my gift to him: a set of lights that change color according to his whim. I also bought some connectors incase he needed them but he didn't seem to have actually required them so that was a waste... but better to have and not need. He let the boys roam which made working on cleaning my room a bit of a PITA but it was cute seeing how excited Widget was for the lights. He and I hung out a bit before he went to work cleaning his walls (well, where the lights would be) and that was nice. :) I offered to make him breakfast but he declined. Fair enough.
We both worked on our rooms for a bit and then when he had his done and turned on the lights, Loki ran in like FUCK YEAH! which was hilarious to me. Loki lost interest when the lights stopped blinking though. Silly cat.
Tossed/getting rid of a good chunk of the clothes in my dresser because I never wear them and haven't thought about most of them in, like, ever. The stuff I'm keeping is either cooler weather stuff, socks, or underwear. Just about everything else in there was either not clothes, so it got moved, or didn't survive the cut. Gonna see if Mums wants any of it later and then donate/junk the rest. Gonna probably keep the system I wound up adopting over the past year since it seems to work: socks and underwear in one drawer and actual clothes on the back of my door. Depending on new cat this may change but for now it's been working rather well. This leaves my dresser up for grabs though. So, uh, I might've moved my doll clothes into it for now. Well, one drawer. We'll see how it works out.
Back to Widget! He went off with his mom, then went with his dad after I went to sleep, I think. I woke up to do a survey and Widget came back just as soon as Mums and I finished dinner. He hung out with us and Mums frosted the cake she made him (sounds like he had a cake at his party but didn't want any because he had a cake here. He was adamant about it and it's just... dude. Take the cake!) and we sung to him and then he and I went out and watched the eclipse and chatted until the gnats and the clouds ruined it. Came back in to snag him that phone he wanted for his birthday and overall on my end it was lowkey but he seemed happy.
Oh, and I did remember to hang the birthday banner up. So it's just the right level of lowkey cheesy in here. And DD hacked up a hairball for Widget after cake time. Because cats.
21! Holy crap. I remember Cass and I had to run around and scrub and clean when X went to the hospital, though I don't remember if that was the first time or the actual baby time. I have very little memory beyond the frantic scrubbing/steaming/cleaning. I do remember seeing him with his newborn blue eyes and dark, curly hair and thinking ohshit, he's gonna howl when I hold him because my only previous baby experience did result in screams. But he was okayish with it and ultimately he and I made peace.
It's been a weird ride and I've never really been sure how I fit into it on his end, but I do try to live up to my promise to not lie to him and to not make promises I can't keep. He's gotten enough of that from his parents. I hope this year is better for him because he could use some extra happiness.
