AG mini update of sorts

impyWe'll probably do the more official version of this later, but here's the AG mini news for those interested. Kit is indeed the one coming back. There was a Berry early access on Monday (4/3) for her and the leaked info from before was close but not quite accurate. If you're into Kit, she's getting these back:
Kit's one of those characters I loved when they first came out and have cooled towards ever since. I appreciate a lot of things about her, from her shorter hair (I gather this version looks to have the slightly longer bob if you're into picky details), to her dark blue eyes and freckles, and I totally appreciated her anti-pink stance in the books. Grace will always have a soft spot in my heart because I got her for Widget and over the years he's given her back and then taken her again.
But she's a terrible friend to Ruthie across multiple books, not just Ruthie's book, I realized I am now very picky with the Classic mold, and AG's treatment of Kit has been... odd over the years. Which isn't Kit's fault; it just adds to the weird feelings towards her. Also, hardcore Kit stans are the absolute worst and I stand by that. But back to AG's treatment of her. Remember that whole hates pink? They pinkified her later stuff hardcore and it's not cool.
And yet, when rumours leaked that it wasn't her original school outfit returning, but the pink version, I think I was the only person who wanted the pink set. Everyone else gnashed their teeth and wailed. I get it. The blue version is "iconic" (their words, not mine) but it's also ugly as fuck in person the way some of the more historically accurate stuff just IS. I feel the same way about her original Christmas dress. I own them both and think they're both ugly as sin in person even if they photograph very well.
Overall though, I think her re-release has some good stuff. I plan on grabbing her PJs (her nautical PJs are actually the very definition of iconic) as I never managed to get them the first go round, her birthday dress is super gorgeous, I'm always here for Grace and their scooter, and while I do love her BeForever look, Kit's classic is, well, classic. I'm not overly thrilled with it all, but I do like what's on offer. Now I do have to figure out whether I ever got her lunch set or not. I could've sworn that I did, but I'm not seeing it in any of my confirmation emails so guess not?
I do wish we'd gotten Kirsten back, though given how these re-releases go, it would've all been stuff I already own and don't need or want duplicates of. I think we get Kit as a celebration of her ~100th Birthday~ which has led to some fun FB comments like, "well, why can't we get ADDY as someone with an actual APRIL birthday" or "why do they keep skipping Felicity?!?" (oh, honey...)
Never change, AG fandom. Never change.
...please, for the love of God, change away from the toxic shit though. I'm begging.
In other news, which is why we'll be waiting for the official release: Courtney's getting new PJs. Out with the Care Bears and in with Strawberry Shortcake!
I was about to lie and say I never had a SS doll, but I did. I had a Lemon Meringue ragdoll and I loved her to bits. I was actually just moving her around earlier when rearranging my mountain of plush. SS was, however, one of those properties I didn't engage with much beyond a book or three and my Lemmy.
Until we get the official pics, I'll try to keep this short-ish. I love the new sleeping bag and plush. Cat supremacy! I was quick enough to grab the CB sleeping bag before it disappeared so I look forward to having this one as well.
I wasn't quick enough to grab the PJs, which I hemmed and hawed on due to knowing they'd feel like absolute hell to my hands, but if they show up on clearance or zulily or something, I'll likely grab them because I prefer the CB style to this onesie. I'll be honest. I was, what, 4/5 for 1986 but I never got the impression that footie pajamas were big for say, 10 year olds. Younger kids? Yes. Older? No. So this one feels very much like AG is pulling a Samantha and taking something more recent and applying it to their historical. Like Sam's original collection had more than a bit of the 80's love of the 1900's more than actual historical accuracy for some of her stuff. This is more people NOW love footie pajamas like crazy and will buy them for all ages but your average 10 year old isn't as likely to have worn them back in Courtney's time period.
I guess. Again, I was lil. :P THAT BEING SAID, I am all for AG giving her winter PJs to follow up the summer PJs. I actually love when that happens, even if I selfishly wish we could have both at the same time. In this case I get why they didn't.
Finally, if you're into showing your AG love in a more subtle way, AG's finally done something a little bit ingenious:
They opened up a Fan Shop with journals, stickers, and tumbler mugs with designs for Samantha, Kirsten, Addy, Felicity, Kit, and Molly.
As with many things, I'm a bit conflicted. On the one hand, I think in general this idea is genius for them. It's a way to snag the adult nostalgia money with stuff they'll actually be likely to buy/use and for the most part it looks good and while it's expensive, it's not like... stupidly so compared to similar products. Like those tumblers aren't terribly priced at $22, even though I wouldn't be thrilled at spending that. Ditto for the $20 notebooks and $8 sticker sets. I do think the bundle should've given you a little discount. I also agree with people going, "hold up, where the fuck is Josefina?" I'd LIKE to believe that given that all this stuff is backordered til May 25 (Mum's birthday! The day before Samantha's!), maybe Josefina's is even more backordered and they just didn't want to hold the whole line up while they waited but realistically I think they did Kit's stuff instead to tie in to her re-release and figured people wouldn't notice they swapped Kit in for Josefina.
I also think that looking at their designs over and over is making me a little dizzy. I'm getting wallpaper vibes if I look too long, and not just from Felicity's stuff (which has given people wallpaper vibes since she debuted) but repeated exposure is lessening this issue. I really like the journals and would likely buy them all if not for the price. If I actually used tumblers like this more reliably, I actually love Kit's a LOT, but would like any of them other than maybe Molly's.
Overall, I hope this does well for them and I hope to not get dizzy when I next look at them.
