impyOkay, I would like to lodge a formal complaint with the universe. When people talked about being able to foretell the weather with their bodies as they aged, it was always stuff like their trick knee being able to tell rain or something, not "congrats, as the tropics crank shit up to 11, your head will feel like someone has added spikes to your glasses as your sinuses scream in agony!"
I'm not sure I can actually blame the tropics, but I sure as hell am going to anyway. Nothing like looking and seeing four or five brewing within the span of a week. Luckily for my area, we're down to just one to watch (Hi, Idalia!) but uh, she's looking very much like she's gonna swing right on by us at this point. Like...soon. So that'll be fun?
I should've known this shit would happen when I cut my cable and one of the warnings they give you is that you're gonna lose your local news stations. I mean, not really as you can always just watch online (til the power goes, anyway) but you get the idea.
Speaking of dealing with Comcast. It's taken more than four tries to get what I kinda wanted done in the first place. MORE THAN FOUR. WTF.
The shorter version:
- Needed to cut my bill because fuck $200, especially since I didn't think anyone was actually using the cable.
Tried to do the chat thing to change, and it was essentially "let me do the exact same thing you can do yourself online, only worse." Let us cut your cable but only take $20 off your bill. No.
- Called and talked to a very nice lady in FL. Cut cable, no contracts, get new modem (when they look and go "uhh, didn't realize we still had those out in the wild", it's a nice feeling, right) and was supposed to get the flex TV box. Got the modem, had issues I think I mentioned before about the cable from the wall being screwed way too tight, but no flex box.
- Had to order the flex box online. Is supposed to be free. Well, they say it's $15 but you get a $15 credit, so one hand giveth, the other hand taketh away.
- Got an alert that we were nearly over our data for the month. The last time this happened was when Widget and his friends had numerous Xboxes going at once. That's not the case now, so wtf. Tried to up my internet speed and just go ahead and pay for the no cap data since the site was telling me this was somehow CHEAPER than my current new plan. When I asked if I was missing some catch, I was told that despite the site saying "good news, your existing Xfinity modem will work for this plan!" which implies it's not for new customers, this deal was only for new customers. Without having to worry about Widget and yours truly going over the data cap on a regular basis, we're still coming out ahead, so I switch. Or so I think. This was done before my new bill generated, so timing wise it wasn't bad.
- Friday I can't pull up the new bill, just the amount I now owe. Which was a little higher than I thought it would be but not $200 so still a win. Sunday I can pull up the bill and see that a) my internet is at the same speed it was when I first started all this b) I did make the switch to the no data cap and c) I'm being charged $15 for that damn free box. So. I chat, once more. This person seems to have caught what I did way back on day before bill generation day and says hey, we can get you faster internet and charge you $25 less, how about it? I make sure there's no catch (there's a small one, future!me. It's that in a year you're gonna pay a little more if you don't switch again and there's a contract.) and we do it. I get my $15 refunded. Huzzah.
In case you're wondering why I didn't just do the switch myself when I noticed it, it's because when I went to do so just to be able to say "then why did it let me switch" to THAT rep, it suddenly no longer worked and would error all over the place. So uh, yeah. Fun.
The point of this all is to say it shouldn't take that many reps to do shit. Such a fucking headache.

Apparently I've been mad at Peacock for their shitty interface but it did get a little better at some point? Because I've been slowly watching Poker Face and it didn't require a blood sacrifice to find it. But I also having been messing with it much because work.
Speaking of work, what was the last update? I dunno, too lazy to look it up. We have three overnight SFLs currently and one me. We've got one split SFL (she works til 1am) and one bossy boots wannabe store manager who seems to work whenever the fuck she feels like, including random shifts for part of the overnight. I don't get it, but whatever.
You've got Spacey. Think Dawn's mother from the BSC, as I found her glasses, the glasses she needs to be able to read, on the ground outside of work Saturday night. Yes, she has a cord keeper for them but she lost that too.
You've got Sleepy. On Sleepy's last work week, she was on break for about half the night because she kept going outside for a smoke/break and she's fallen asleep on nearly every shift to the point that even Newbie, who had only worked with her for two, maybe three shifts at that point, knew it well enough to make it a running joke.
Newbie is the youngest, loudest, and somehow the laziest. She's funny but my god, she will not do any work unless you either trick her into running register (where she thinks she's tricking me into doing her work for her) or you're the Split Shift lead, who Newbie will shit talk the moment she leaves.
Sleepy left early not last Saturday, but the Saturday before, and left Newbie in charge and it took her two hours to leave because Newbie was fighting her on EVERYTHING to the degree that Sleepy (and I) genuinely thought Newbie wasn't gonna do shit. And she didn't, btw. She rang people up while I finished the tags.
I figured it wouldn't be long before dayshift, and split shift, realized what I'd figured out very quickly: that while none of these are great, Newbie is absolutely the laziest and the one doing the least amount of work. Especially when I heard that the three of them worked overnight on Sun or Mon and Spacey basically did my job (running register/cleaning the front of the store/vacuuming). Spacey immediately clocked Newbie as lazy for the same reasons I did.
So imagine my shock when Newbie and Spacey both tell me, not on the same night, that day shift is rallying around Newbie. What. The. Actual. Fuck. I'd normally assume perhaps the stories were being exaggerated or something, and they likely are to some degree, but Split Shift was there for Newbie's version and she likes Newbie and said as much and it's like... y'all know the reason she didn't take her break til after 6am isn't because she was SO BUSY, it's because she'd spent the whole night half on break anyway, right? Right?! Like my former SFL apparently was so upset that Newbie hadn't gotten a lunch earlier in the night that she went off on someone (never did catch who) and like...ma'am. I love and miss you dearly, but if this night was like any other night with Newbie other than her first night with me, she didn't do shit all night and could have taken a break at any time, and likely did, just not one she clocked out for.
I'm wondering if maybe the first shift I worked with her, where she was quiet and worked for most of the night, gave everyone else the impression that she would be a worker, or maybe she does work on the nights I don't? Or hell, maybe it's a case of at least she'll ring and let me do the other stuff while Spacey seems to just float around... Only I'm not sure that's fair, because Spacey had me do the tags the last Saturday we worked together (not this Saturday) and she ran register, which is exactly what Newbie did so... I am confused. I'd totally get it if the dayshift was like "all the new SFLs suck. Wtf." but to have them rally around Newbie is so, so weird.
Also, I do not for a second believe that my former SFL couldn't look at the store being faced Thursday night and not figure out I did it, without having to look at the cameras, because she could always tell my facing versus other people's before.
Off to find the kitty.
