impyI think I'm back? It'll be a little while before things have settled back to the new normal, probably, but for now I think I'm back. Still pissed the previous comp died without serious warning, though it's one of those hindsight things where you think oh. Huh. Guess maybe I should've seen that coming. To be fair, it still didn't really add up to total hard-drive failure.
Naturally I have a massive headache (thanks, sinuses and period!) which means this is going to take longer to properly set up the way I want. Alas.
If you didn't notice I was gone, that's cool because uh, I don't think many people did and it was only a couple of days. Which felt like longer to meeeeeeee.
Am I the only one not absolutely in love with X-Men '97? Part of it might be because the internet won't stop spoiling every goddamn thing about it (how did we all manage to not spoil Endgame but can't go two seconds without spoiling every second of a streaming animated series?) and part of it might be because while the animated series was my gateway drug into the world of comics and X-Men in particular, to this day I do not give a shit about:
-Cyclops
-his lineage in any direction. Havok is okay because he doesn't seem to want to be directly linked to his brother half the time anyway.
-Jean Grey (god, the one good thing that's come of the non-stop '97 stuff is realizing many, many years later that everyone had clocked her fainting as annoying as fuck)
- Sinister (to be clear, I actually really enjoyed super campy Sinister in some of the more recent runs but since so much of his shtick involves his fascination with Summers blood...)
- the Sentinels.
- Mojo world
I also wasn't a huge fan of the Rogue/Magneto hookup(s? fuck, I'm old) that took place during my time in the comics so having that come back around while Rogue/Gambit has always been and will always be the superior ship and why are we still having to fight this battle in the year 2024, JFC, no I do not care that one could argue that this is about the '97 thing because it wasn't made then and if you're gonna have Jubilee call Xavier and Magneto besties instead of BFFs which is what she should've said had we been using the terms of the time so clearly we're taking current shit into consideration...
Uh. Anyway. Where was I? Oh, yeah. For all the stuff that brings back the good nostalgia, there's also enough stuff that reminds me why I didn't go back once I had the money to do so.
I don't want anyone thinking it's all bad, it's just that first episode crams so much of what I'd forgotten I disliked into one episode and then things spilled over into "oh. we're doing this, huh?" territory.
Since I'm in spoiler territory, lemme also say that the Goblin Queen episode was both rage inducing and fantastic all at once, and I liked how they resolved it (sorta?) but JFC, Scott, this is why I hate you SO MUCH and will die on this hill a thousand times over.
But people calling this the best animated show ever are clearly on drugs and I'm gonna need them to shut the fuck up because Arcane is right there.
That said, god it's good to hear Storm and Wolverine again.
If you were curious, I did partake in the HT sale and picked up some goodies because I do love me some shiny. Basically scooped up the rest of the holiday collection with the exception of Curfew Crasher (I think it's fug and would look fug on me, though I do accept that it looks lovely on others), most of the Valentine's/Space collection with the exception of Solo Mission (?) which is another on that just isn't appealing to me, a couple of the cremes, some misc specialty polishes I hadn't picked up yet, and the black flakie polish and periwinkle polish from the ice cream collection even though they weren't on sale. Oh, and the new bundle because I love 3/4 and the 4th is a purple so it's possible my love of the color will override my dislike of the square glitter.
Okay, I need to look at something that isn't a screen for awhile.
