Arcane: S2 Act 2: Vs!
Nov. 16th, 2024 11:50 amIf Act 1 followed some beats I fully expected*, Act 2 zagged at nearly every turn.
And I think that actually hurt more than what I had prepared myself for. And instead we were given hope.
To which I am left with two not entirely conflicting thoughts:
1) To those who said Vander didn't love Powder, I'd like to invite you all to fuck off.
2) GODDAMMIT, JAYCE.
2b) Caitlyn and Jayce are just gonna trade the "for fuck's sake!" title back and forth, aren't they?
*Ambessa's rise to power, Caitlyn's turn to the darkside due to her grief, Mel surviving and Cassandra very obviously not.
I fully expected the Warwick reveal to be later and for it to be dealt with in Act 3 instead of having Jinx face him, then collect a painfully broken Vi (how much of a time lapse did we have between acts?) and drag her to save their father... all for it to blow up, kind of literally, in their faces. I can't say I didn't expect Jinx's surrogate little sister to die, particularly in Act 2, but I didn't expect to want to cry when it happened. I guess Isha finally got me.
I'd forgotten we were promised Vander/Silco backstory and so I was absolutely delighted to get it (I need MORE) earlier than expected and to have it tie so closely to Vi brought me such joy and such fucking heartbreak. On the one hand, it kind of makes what Silco did even fucking worse and on the other, damn. Just damn.
I will say I didn't really give too much thought to Vi and Jinx's bio parents, though I do kind of love that they weren't just random orphans Vander found after the battle. I could probably have lived several lifetimes without the thought that Silco and Vander were both possibly (probably?) in love with Vi and Jinx's mother.
I wonder if we got such a limited time with Jayce and none with Heimer and Ekko was because there was just so much shit going on elsewhere or what. With so few episodes, having them go MIA hurts, and they're not even part of my holy trinity. To say I squeed with actual friggin' delight when I realized I had scenes with Vi/Vander/VIktor would be a massive understatement. Like yes, I would rather have Vander proper but look, you take what you can get, ok?
Mel's moment had me going for half a second, thinking it would be nice if Kino were actually there, but it was one of those things where the moment you begin the thought you realize No Way In Hell. Honestly, Mel's storyline is the one I have the least idea of where it's going to wind up, and I specifically mean MEL's, not her mother's. So... I wait and hope for more of her, as I do love her.
The art for HextechJesus!Viktor and Skye (is it Sky or Skye?) was trippy and beautiful and while I knew on some level we'd have to take him from being the heart and soul of Hextech to, well... the type to save humanity from itself by force, it still fucking stung.
Kinda wondering will fandom really care that much that cape!Caitlyn took up with Maddie? The way the spoilers (yeah, I got spoiled on that and ugh, people, how hard is to NOT FUCKING SPOIL SHIT OUTSIDE OF SPOILER SPACES) were making it sound like it was this big thing. It wasn't? Maddie still seems perfectly sensible other than now she's hooking up with Caitlyn who clearly has a type.
Oh! I did particularly love Jinx's Big Hero moment when the Zaunites all take turns touching her shoulders and basically Jinx letting herself believe that she was worth something after all.
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll just be replying the Violet reveal, the family hugs, and definitely not thinking about how fucked up everything is.
