as you lonely people...

So my best friends are leaving tonight and going to be with their dying grandfather. This sounds weird because.. it's not. It just sounds weird. The joys of being best friends is that you don't have to say anything, but it doesn't mean you don't feel like you should say something. But what do you say? You can't really say anything other than "if you want to talk, I'm here. If you want, I can pull all sorts of random insanity out of thin air and attempt to make you laugh through the pain, or I can piss you off so you can channel your rage this way. Or, we don't have to talk. Whatever you want."

I'm hoping he holds on long enough for them to get to say all the things they need to say. Notice I said need and not want. The want stuff is stuff he already knows, more than likely. The need stuff, well that's the stuff that'll haunt them if it's not said.

I don't think I got to say goodbye, truly, to either of my grandparents. [yeah, most kids get two sets, but I got two broken sets.] This isn't "Oh, I shall twist it so it's all about me right now", but just a thought. My grandfather died in a nursing home, only his mind wasn't there with him. So I think that sometime before he was totally gone, he knew I loved him. The rest of the time we spent was waiting for him to remember, ever briefly, who those strange people in his room were, and why one of them had the same name as his beloved wife. The first one. Not the second. Apparently they were a match made in hell. I'm told they threw knives at one another. Or else she did. Nuts. Nor the third [and, at the time, present] because... no.

Grandmother just... died. Was sick, seemed to get better, and then apparently didn't. Sadness.

But, to keep this from being ever so morbid, you'll note that I've gone and gotten a new LJ icon. Lauren Graham because she's imp-tastic. It needs a quote or something, but for now it'll be fine as is. I hope.
