There was a bit of a thing that went down on the AG board yesterday. It started off one way and then quickly spiraled into something related but not overtly so to the initial question.
Anyway, someone said they believed that a woman's first responsibility was to her family. They also said other things which I do not necessarily agree with but we're going to take this and ponder on it.
She got dogpiled for the comment (again, moreso for the other things said in addition to the comment) but I... kind of agree.
Before you ready the stones, sticks, and flaming llamas, hear me out. This isn't some "a woman's place is at home!" nonsense. It's simply about those words and not the history behind them. Screw that.
I believe everyone's first responsibility is to their family, man or woman. I also believe that how you define family is up to you. To some people this is very literal and they only see relatives as family. Fair enough. Some people would count friends well before blood relatives in the family category. Also fair. Some mix and mingle. Sure, why not? Neighbors? Sure!
However you define your family, even if it's just you and your cat/dog/hamster/bird/fish/whatever. They should be your priority in life.
How one chooses to make them so is also up to the individual. Some people will find that providing for them (but not at the expense of actually being with them enough to matter) in their job/career is how they choose to interpret it. Pretty important, that earning of money and doing of something you hopefully at least tolerate. Others will stay at home and provide that way. There are a zillion different ways to go about this and yet they're all completely valid to me.
Sometimes I wonder if I'm the only one who thinks that way though.
