Sep. 14th, 2013 05:44 pm Some days I miss Dad a lot. Some days I just miss him. Today, for some reason, is a day I miss him a lot. As far as I can tell there's no reason, it's just because. I'm not sure whether to be upset that no one is up/here to distract me or be grateful because sometimes you just want to be alone. Well, as alone as one can be with pets that like to swing by and inform you that if you're in the mood for food, they'll totally help you out with that.
Onward and possibly upward! Tomorrow I shall actually make good on my threats to begin the assembling of the doll room. I might, if I can find the batteries, also take and share pictures of the house as it currently is. It's not done and you'll have missed the step between completely empty and now, but just imagine a lot of boxes everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Which, btw, is not something your landlord is going to like and will, if you're lucky, threaten to evict you if you don't clean that up within two weeks. This is, of course, after you've been in the house for like, two and a half weeks.
Which brings me to my note to future self: When next you move, move the furniture in FIRST. Do not let idiots tell you this is their plan only to move the furniture to the truck first, but put it in the front (back?) so that it's the last stuff off. No.
The point, before I lost it in a slightly foggy sea of bitterness, is that the house is pretty good, all things considered. It's a little cluttered in some areas but that's because the boy's furniture is here and probably will be for awhile yet.
Next on the agenda. While perusing one of the various AG boards, I noticed a sig and counted the dolls just because that's what I do when I'm bored. Sometimes I test myself by IDing said dolls, too. Anyway, I counted 36 which got me thinking: could I even come up with 36 AG dolls I'd want?
I think you know where this is going, right? If not, buckle up because things are going to get dorky. :P
I already have 15, so... that means it is, I suppose, possible to hit 36 without breaking too much of a sweat. Still, the easiest way to look at it would be to buy all the named dolls. Only... I don't want them all. I used to think I'd want all the historical dolls, but that was before I realized I wasn't super fond of the classic mold (Samantha, Kirsten, and Molly all use this mold.) Of the 31 named dolls*, 15 have the classic mold. Even taking into consideration the fact that I have some of them already, it's still... meh. So who would make the cut?
We already have: Samantha, Kirsten, #8, Ruthie, Nellie, Sonali, Jess, Lizbeth, Felicity, Ivy, Kanani, #4, Cecile, McKenna, and Marie Grace.
Let me take a second. I didn't realize I'd hit 15. I thought I was still on 14. Egads. EGADS, BRAIN. WHAT HAPPENED?
Um, anyway. *cough* Where were we? Oh yes, trying to fill another 21 spots.
From the historical side, we'd pick up Kaya for sure. In fact, she's on my watch list in general. Ditto Rebecca. I waffle on Addy. I like the character, I want to play with the hair, but like the classic mold, Addy's is really hit or miss for me. It doesn't help that the first Addy I saw was not the cutest ever, and she was in person so you can't even trot out the old "AG photography is special at best..." reasoning. I also waffle on Josefina because some of them are adorable (I still think of you, chubby cheeked dislay doll in Atlanta!) and some well... not so much. I'd like Caroline more if she weren't classic mold. I used to want Kit badly but again, classic mold. I think I'm skipping Emily and getting Saige to be my stand-in. I plan on getting Miss Olly Molly because she's Molly, classic mold be damned. Still on the fence about Julie. Some days I love her, some days I don't.
So that's 2 definites to my total, bringing us to 17, with another 3 possibles.
Girl of the Year: No interest (or not enough to count) in Lindsey, Kailey, Nicki, Mia, or Gwen. Doubtful on Lanie since I had an entire year to buy her and didn't ever really feel the need.
Definitely do want: Marisol. On the fence about Chrissa. Likely getting Saige.
We're up to 19 yeses and 4 possibilities.
Now we move along to the wall of numbers. Since there are something like 60 possibilities here, we won't go through and discuss every single doll. We'll just hover on the maybes and yeses. Ready?
Onward. You can play along here or here.
Note: AG doesn't use this numbering system anymore so playing along on the official site would be more difficult.
#11 is the Addy Mold in medium with bangs and not textured hair. Cass has her and I feel kind of weird doubling her, even though she and I have lots of twins. (Hello, Bitty Twins! And Kanani! And Sonali!) So she's a maybe.
27 thus far. 29 if I threw in my maybes.
We hit 30 when we throw in the medium skinned doll without hair with the Sonali mold. Otherwise it appears that unless my math is off by six, I still can't hit that target.
Which is why, when people ask if I have a limit, I will be able to answer "36." I've still got wiggle room, even if next year's GOTY is a Marie Grace mold who is adorable. :P
*Kaya, Felicity, Elizabeth, Caroline, Josefina, Cecile, Marie Grace, Kirsten, Addy, Samantha, Nellie, Rebecca, Kit, Ruthie, Molly, Emily, Julie, Ivy, Lindsey, Kailey, Marisol, Jess, Nicki, Mia, Chrissa, Sonali, Gwen, Lanie, Kanani, McKenna, and Saige

- #16 is classic mold, brown eyes, brown hair. She is basically not!Samantha. "But you already have Samantha and you profess to not love the classic mold. What gives?" Well, see... I am complicated. :P While I dislike a fair amount of the stuff Mattel has done over the years, I think their dolls are actually cuter than most of the PC dolls. Classic mold especially. I'd hoped to get a second Sam one day but it never happened. I've never pulled the trigger on doing more than thinking about this one, but if I were making a 36 doll army, she'd be included. So, yes.
- #26: Addy mold, medium skin, amber eyes, curls glorious curls. I love you, 26. Why don't I own you yet? Oh yeah, because they keep thinning the historical herd.
- #28: Josefina mold, medium skin, short brown hair, brown eyes. Not!Marisol but with shorter hair. So cute I could die.
- Since I'm crafting an army, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't buy both #46 and #47. (Sonali mold, dark skin, brown eyes. 46 has curls, 47 has straight hair.)
- #53 (Josefina mold, brown eyes, short blond hair) and #54 (Jess mold, bangs, brown eyes) would also appear in the lineup.
- As would either #31, 45, or 50. (Addy mold. 45 has bangs. I cannot tell the difference between 31 and 50, though maybe 50 has a center part?) Sadly, I think two of those are retired. Oh noes!
