impy: tori from jackie's strength video (run away!)
So Halloween. Did you have fun? Did you do anything? I had a bit of a mixed bag holiday, as seemed to be the theme of the week. Ultimately I'd put it in the good column, but it's not really one to fully write home about. It's miles away better than the year I fell asleep and the boy pissed off the neighbors, but that one yielded a story and this one probably won't.

First up, it wasn't cool. There was very little chill in the air and while I might have been able to say otherwise if we'd gone trick or treating, we didn't because Widget was grounded (still) and the flood at the start of the month yielded mosquitoes the size of ponies so going outside was pretty much a crap shoot all week.

That said, I was pretty pleased with the decorations. I'd bought four holofoil Owl luminaries from Walmart and put them on our wall that divides our walkway from the neighbor's patio. I put the white luminary bags that I painted a few years ago in our second parking space and then a couple out into the parking lot so you could see them from the street to serve as a beacon of, "HEY, WE'VE GOT CANDY. COME AND GET IT."

It did not work. We had zero trick or treaters this year. Even when Widget went out to tell his sort of friend (as he saw them heading out) that we had candy, he was told, "Sorry, we're going trick or treating." To which he came back and told the story and added, "Annnnnd we have candy, duh. People are stupid."

But when Widget took the dog out, he did come home and ring the bell so he and the dog trick or treated, so it was a better turn out than last year. Also, when Widget and I were wandering and I was debating whether or not I was going to cave on the trick or treat thing, a Mom came running over to us and gave us candy from her kid's stash. It appears the same thing happened when Widget took the dog for her walk later, though I will admit it's possible Widget trick or treated instead. I'm willing to believe he might've gotten lucky a second time simply because Angel isn't exactly the kind of dog you'd take trick or treating, especially since she spent yesterday perfecting her snapping turtle costume. :P

I could have done without Widget's whinging about being grounded and not getting to go visit the old neighborhood or do anything and then his hour long discussion about how his father doesn't love him but wants to spend time with him and what if he marries that girl and I couldn't help but selfishly think, "You had all week to bring any and all of this up and you choose Halloween? Are you kidding me?"

Sigh.

Despite every store swimming in pumpkins at the start of the week, come Thursday they had nothin'. We eventually found a pie pumpkin and attempts to carve that prove that Martha Stewart is a damn liar every time she trots out pictures of her perfectly carved pie pumpkins. That sucker earned the title of Littlest, Angriest Pumpkin. But it smelled so fantabulous once I set that sucker ablaze with the candle. Until it somehow wound up smelling like peach. I don't understand either. o_O

Found Rose Red was on Spike TV last night, but I missed part one. WOE. I love Rose Red. It's the right mix of creepy and funny and each time I hope that certain characters will make it out alive, all while knowing the story won't change.

Time change last night meant that I don't have to work the change that sucks for 3rd shifters, huzzah!

I do wish that like the two days beforehand, I'd been less sleepy Halloween. Day before? Woke up at 9am, stayed wired until 2am. Did this the day before, too. And it's not like I HAD to get up then, it was just when I got tired of the cat doing her, "Food now, human? Now? How about now? Now? Do you remember me? I am the cat and I am hungry. Now." singalong. Halloween? Woke up to the same song and dance and just could not get moving. Had to take a nap and it didn't really seem to do much for me. :(

And now it's November. Some cool weather would be awesome, Mother Nature. Last November 1st, it was freakin' cold and rainy and dark and scary. It was one of those days that horror movies like so much, when things turn blue/green and things just feel creepy. This year is just a smidge warmer than our average Thanksgiving or Christmas. Actually, scratch that. Christmas is either rainy or short-shorts weather.

We'll see if I can get pictures of the Halloween set ups around here. I tried last night, but night shots are always iffy at the best of times for me, y'know?

I did not manage to dress up the AG army, though I did get maybe six of them dressed. I'm trying to decide if I should skip pajama time and head straight into holiday dresses, or if I just note which dresses I have and do the changeover after Thanksgiving. I'm likely to start today with the girls not dressed for Halloween. So if you're wanting to see PJ-pocalypse or something, lemme know.
