belated turkey day
Nov. 28th, 2016 10:02 pmDid I ever follow up with how Thanksgiving went? I do not believe that I did. Well, for those of you who bet it would be just Mums and I at the table you win!
Mums woke me up a little before three, which is about when she said dinner was going to be, and I headed downstairs after debating dressing up a bit (ha) only to see/hear Widget go out the front door. Mom calls out the door after him for him to get his butt back here and... nothing. Turns out that dinner isn't done but we're kinda close? And she's freaking out because Widget's apparently going to his mother's (but that's not where he went just then) and the potatoes need to be mashed and the table needed to be set and you get the idea.
So I called Widget until he answered the phone, I got yelled at but did not yell back, I helped set the table, I mashed the potatoes, and answered the phone when my brother called after Widget called him to say he wasn't going to be here for the holiday. Widget presented it as his mother wanted him to be there for their turkey dinner but nope, he called her right before storming outside after I woke up and demanded a rescue and she figured he'd run it by us. Despite the fact that she's had years of experience to tell her otherwise, and Mom and every adult in the vicinity has told her that she should call and talk to Mums or me before assuming such things... and she agrees every time and then never does it. Mums went outside when Widget disappeared (I think this is when my brother called) to go off with his mother and had a little "don't let your good for nothing husband hit your kid again, call before assuming your son has run anything by anyone in this house, and btw, congrats on your first Thanksgiving meal." I dunno, I wasn't there, so I'm guessing.
My brother decided there was no point in showing up for dinner since Widget wouldn't be here and Mums and I sat down to dinner all alone. And y'know, other than the pre-show drama, it was a very nice dinner. I should've seasoned the potatoes better, but you live and learn. The stuffing was fantastic, I didn't have to share my grape juice, and there wasn't any akward conversation. There was conversation, just not akward. :p The dog mooched a bit and basically it was the most relaxing Thanksgiving dinner I can remember in awhile.
Typical. I took the dog out for her walk earlier and I was expecting it to be pretty chilly because it was this morning and I didn't remember the weather calling for it to warm up a ton... but it did. I mean, it feels nice outside but it's definitely not wintry or even late fall. It felt beachy, honestly. Not really hot or anything, but breezy and you could almost smell the salt water. Part of this was probably because the blanket of clouds overhead was being gently blown away and it looked a bit like the tide going out.
And this is typical because this morning I ordered myself a new sweater (my good sweater wound up with paint on it when the nutty lady down at the end painted our trashcan but didn't tell us or leave a sign or anything. wtf.) and a new hoodie. Like... of course the cold weather would disappear the second I bought winter gear. :p
Let's see. I did a little shopping for other people today, too. Bought Cass's present, another thing or three for Mums, and we'll see if the chairs I ordered will work out okay. They pretty much have to be better than what we have now, though.
Now, if I fall asleep soon, I'll be right and the daily deals will begin tonight. If I don't, then someone else will be right and I will be sleepy. What to do, what to do...
