Aug. 21st, 2018 03:18 pmUp to episode 5, I think, on Sharp Objects and I have some thoughts.
1) This is definitely most accurately described as a slow burn kind of mini series. I don't mind it but my mind does wander a bit, partly because...
2) The way the music is used in this series is just odd. You'll be getting into a song and then it cuts off because we're getting out of the car (there's a lot of driving) or the scene shifts abruptly or something. And unlike Big Little Lies where the music was done really well this is just eh for me.
3) Even without remembering like, two things from the book max, I could tell you the killer the moment they showed up on screen. And every time someone comments on the mystery killer, they might as well just highlight the actual killer because yeah.
Still, it's interesting and there's a scene in ep 3, I think, that's just stunningly shot and that's not even normally my kind of thing to comment on. It's definitely creepy and haunting and that's not counting the actually kind of gross scenes that blip on screen momentarily.
But yeah, it'll kill your appetite something fierce and I'd imagine it's probably not good for anyone who has self-harmed. Then again, the book kind of spells that out with the cover so that's not a surprise.
Unrelated, but hell hath frozen as my Walmart order finally shipped. Not sure if it would have done so without me noticing they were back in stock and emailing CS but in any case, I'll believe it when I have them in hand. Til then, at least there's the illusion of movement.
