impy: Claudia and Stacey from The Baby-Sitters Club at the beach (just beachy)

Yesterday's pretty sunset. After dinner, Mom and I went down to the pond because I wasn't sure if we were about to be slammed by wind and rain and I keep fussing at her to do more walking. Anyway, as we were talking to the ducks, the sky shifted from yellow to pink and it was strange and weird and awesome. Mom and I walked back when the wind kicked up a bit more, but when I went back out to take a picture (or twelve) it had turned purple. Really pretty, though anytime the evening sky turns yellow or orange (or looks like someone has set a sepia filter over everything) it's a bit disconcerting.

I woke up to a little rain this morning and it was a breezy, but when I woke back up a few hours later, the wind had mostly died down. I went for a walk maybe an hour ago and I'm guessing another band was starting to pass us when I hit the far pond because things were kicking up a bit more.

But when I say kicking up, I mean if it was maybe winds at 5 mph, we'd hit 7 by the time I came home. Definitely more wind yesterday. But I'm not complaining.

I don't get the people bitching that we didn't get it worse. Their big complaints seem to be that they were off work for no reason and/or they evacuated and just want to get home.

Kay, for the being off work and not being able to afford that, I understand. But let's look at things from the logical perspective, k? Because for all these idiots love to invoke the name of Hugo* none of them seem to remember that Hugo didn't just hit us and make the weekend kind of a bummer. Nope. I lived in one of the richer neighborhoods and we didn't get power back for three weeks. Curfews were a thing. You couldn't get into our neighborhood in a vehicle for awhile because trees had fallen. The city in general was basically closed down. It's been so long that people believe the stupid post going around about school being open the day Hugo hit. It wasn't. We knew it was going to be bad but even that didn't prepare people for how long the recovery took.

So yeah, you might've left for what felt like nothing. But if it had been something, you wouldn't be able to come back yet. If you stayed and it felt like nothing, would you have rather had a tree fall on your house, or flood waters at your door? Would you rather have had the wind send trees flying, causing your house to jump with each thud? For all the bitching about things being closed, a lot of them could be permanently closed if Florence had shown up the way you seem to have wanted.

So if the worst that happened was that you got bored and the kids had cabin fever, congrats. You successfully made it through a storm as a winner.
* - as in, "I lived through Hugo and this wasn't shit."

Elsewhere, yesterday I might've broken my no-buy and snagged a NBC dress from Torrid. This one to be exact. I threw something else in the bag and should be getting $10 back so I don't feel too bad about the purchase. Not entirely sure when I became the dress wearing sort, but I did and here we are.

Oh, and I officially hit the wait list for the updated version of Ipsy because I figure it's worth a whirl. If I don't like it, should I ever get it, at least I'll have gotten some full size goodies and I'll cancel the whole she-bang.

Also yesterday, I woke up early to watch the Haunted House presentation on HSN as suggested by the Halloween Forum. Last year's was cheesy fun, with the host dressing up and you could tell she actually really enjoys the holiday. The set was staged nicely and while I didn't buy anything, they had more than six items up for sale and made decent use of their hour. This year? Last year's host was basically a sidekick to this year's and he claimed to be a fan of Halloween but dude, I didn't get that vibe at all. The set was meh and the actual Halloween selections stopped half an hour into the show. They had *thinks* maybe five items on the show? And the first one was a rehash of something they introduced last year. I did like the weird mishmash of a tombstone and the burning ember thing they've been doing in pumpkins lately, but two snowglobe type items, a set of battery operated lights, a tombstone, and a set of disco pumpkins isn't exactly setting the Halloween world ablaze.

Oh, and the cat peed on the couch sometime overnight. Not. cute. Naturally she did it on my side and I'd planned on watching TV today. Rude, cat. Rude.
