May. 24th, 2020 08:08 amYou know what's fun? Getting a call fourteen minutes after your shift was supposed to be over from the person meant to relieve you. "I'm sick," they say and you think, no shit. But also, I'm pretty sure you're supposed to call out BEFORE your shift is supposed to start. I know things happen, like sometimes you get sick on the way to work, but this lady is either late to the degree that I don't see her before I leave, or she gets to work half an hour early. There's very little in between. I'd say I'm surprised she still has a job but it finally hit me yesterday that work never bothered to replace the high school kids who quit at the start of the pandemic. And we were already running on a skeleton crew WITH them.
Oi. I'm not sure if they finally hired someone or if they did and then they quit.
In case you wondered how social distancing in a state that has reopened to much fuckery went, let me tell you that within the first hour of my shift, I'd had 42 customers. Keep in mind that sometimes 42 is all I'll get in a NIGHT. So all that in an hour. Do your math and you'll realize that I was basically ringing a never ending line of people and none of them were keeping their distance from one another. I'm not even talking about the groups of teenagers who are probably Widget's age (he's nineteen if you wanna feel old with me) who kept coming in together. Nope, group A and group B just could not keep six feet away. Hell, they didn't bother trying to keep normal line distance apart. And nary a mask to be seen.
God, it's frustrating to work for a company that does not give a shit about their workers. Even worse when someone else asked whether work did anything paywise and I found out that her job did the same as mine, only hers is getting another round of bonus pay while mine is just like "here, have some wipes for the carts. And by wipes I mean they're pretty much dry and useless and people will still steal them."
I'm not sure which is worse: the people who come in without a mask, coughing and sneezing and laughing not giving a shit or the people who wear a mask but not correctly, while also doing the same thing. I... it's just not a good time to be had. It doesn't help that people have just completely forgotten how to act.
Plus side, saw the cutest little boy who was just so very, very happy to see everyone. While I still don't think I'd ever want kids of my own, kids like that do make me wonder just a little. His father did make me internally roll my eyes though, as he didn't want to touch anything and didn't want his receipt or anything (he was polite about it)... while his young son is sitting in the cart that I guarantee hasn't been cleaned since we opened back up. People.
In other news, perhaps to cope with the whole "my job seems to actively be trying to kill us" thing, coupled with the state reopening and people just not giving a single fuuuuuuuuuuuck about the virus, I have been indulging a little in retail therapy online. I snagged the Summer Reading line from Olive Ave Polish (I'm wearing Herbology today) and pics will be coming later, after I've slept. I stumbled across the Halloween MH minis on ebay and I picked them up. So far I've only opened two, but the Frankie Lori sent me now has Clawdeen and Lagoona to hang out with. :D I've been doling them out since they got here. I haven't opened today's yet. I also picked up a reboot Lagoona not in box but she's apparently taking the scenic route to get here. I hope she doesn't require too much work to get prettifuls once she does arrive. I've made a couple of other orders but they haven't even shipped yet. Boo. BOO.
Anyway, I'm going to figure out whether I'm supposed to help Mom clean up in case my brother makes good on her gift or if I'm to nap first.
