Summer Reading collection
May. 29th, 2020 10:24 amSo. Attempts to get pictures of Herbology on my nails prior to them just going all to hell failed, mostly because I am terrible at painting my nails at the same time but also because the sun laughed at me hardcore. Instead, I have pictures of the Olive Ave Polish Summer Reading Collection in the bottles. Perhaps my next spin with them on the nails won't be through a tropical storm and after a week of quadruple trucks? We'll see.
Anyway. Olive Ave Polish is a boutique/indie brand that launched earlier this year. I found Olive Ave Nails/Walker when I was looking up Zoya comparisons and again when I decided to actually start swatchathon. If you're ever curious as to how Zoya polishes compare to one another or other vegan/cruelty free brands (that's her niche), then I highly recommend looking through her channel or her IG. While she's way more into cremes than I am, she does have just about every current Zoya polish so she's able to compare new polishes to older ones so you won't wind up with dupes. She's pretty spot on, too.
Sooooo she launched Olive Ave Polish with a spring collection and I've snagged *thinks* 4/6 of the polishes. I'd have 5/6 but Calla Lily sold out and hasn't come back in stock. I love that unlike a lot of brands, indie or otherwise, she's commited to not having LE stuff. If a color sells out, it's going to come back in stock, so there's no panicking.
I really liked the Flora polishes I initially grabbed (Aster, Cornflower, and Hyacynth for Mom) so I ponied up for the entire summer collection once she announced she'd reconfigured the shipping tiers and the collection would be free shipping.

L-R: Fey, Crake, Pumpkin, Lyra, Palm Trees, and Herbology

The Summer Romance Trio needed another shot simply because they're harder to capture. This is in the sun sometime after noon, so the colors are a bit brighter in reality.
Fey is a briiiiiiiiight pink with shimmer and while I'm not a huge pink person in general, this one has been calling my name. I nearly went with it first, but changed my mind at the last second.
Crake is a bright coral-y salmon that I was fence sitting on, but I think Mums would like and I know I don't have anything similar. I like it better in person than I thought I would, actually, and by the time I'd ordered it, I was cautiously optimistic. I think this'll be for when the days hit that streak of "ohgod, why do I live in the south in the summer?"
Pumpkin is being held for August when my thoughts truly switch to fall, even though it'll still feel like Satan's armpit around here. It's not a Halloween orange, but despite not loving orange polishes, just looking at this one makes me happy. Can a polish color be cute?
Lyra reads as pistachio to me in person. It's the one I was most meh about but I know I don't have the color and I'm willing to give it a shot.
Palm Trees is only not next on my to wear list because I've been wearing green polishes for three weeks now, I think. Definitely two. SO. PRETTY.
Herbology is lovely and the gold shimmer transforms the color into the lush green of late spring/early summer when all the plants are just at their most green and beautiful. While Pumpkin and Lyra both read as late summer to me, when the sun has baked the life out of things (and I say this with love), Herbology is the start of the summer when spring's rain makes everything bloom. While I don't normally go seasonal for my polish wearing, this one felt most now to me. It's gorgeous and glittery without being blingy.
The polishes are all related to a book and she goes in depth about this on IG and in her launch video. How could I possibly resist something that combined books and nail polish? I could not.
