ow, my face
Jul. 13th, 2020 10:16 amWoo! Officially like, super old now if you asked younger!me. Probably also if you asked Widget, come to think of it.
In a stunning break with tradition, I actually had a really great birthday. I know everyone else in this time of Corona-crap hasn't had the best of luck, so maybe it's more a commentary on how my birthdays usually turn out or maybe I just seriously lucked out. I don't know, but the only time I wanted to cry this week was when I was watching or reading something sad.
I chose not to go swimming this week (though god, did I want to) mostly because a lot of my days this week involved me sleeping until past my normal 'get ready for the pool' time and it's been oddly sunny for a week that promised me thunderstorms pretty much non-stop.
I did celebrate my brother's birthday by getting my present from Cass delivered (the Tori Amos book that came out in May and the retro Glory MLP and how much do I love that the gift rhymes?) as well as my gift from the amazing and talented
luxken27, though I didn't get to open that until Thursday because the box wound up hidden behind the bag o reusable grocery bags.

She's been doing some fantastic cross-stitch this pandemic (and before) and she gifted me some Golden Girls totebag fabulousness and to say I love would be a understatement of epic proportions. As you can see, Ozma was feeling helpful when it came time for "pics or it didn't happen."
I do wish I'd had them for earlier when Mums and I braved At Home to hunt for Halloween. Ultimately I decided that since it's housed in an old Sam's Club building and is thus pretty big and rarely filled with people, it might be an okay shopping stop. I just wasn't sure they'd actually have any Halloween stuff. OH. MY. GLOB. So much Halloween goodness that you're lucky I haven't just shared the 135 pictures I took (I mean, I wish I was joking, though to be fair I think that includes the multiples that happen by accident sometimes) and called it a day. But yeah, I actually spent my birthday coupon and got a decent savings which never happens.
Funny though, the thing I went in for? I did not buy and they did have it. I think if I'd had a higher coupon OR liked the color combo better, I'd have caved. But since I fell in love with two other things more and I didn't want to spend too much... Ah, growing up.
Anyway, I bought this stuff:

A cute little witchy pillow that is adorable and I love it. It's super soft. ♥ The dragon door hanger is for Mom and is to replace the one I bought her last year that broke and then didn't really go back together. The cat yard stake matches my luminary bag I painted eons ago, the little cat is just cute and I can't explain the ghost LED candle love beyond it reminds me of something I'd have found as a kid, only then it would've been a real candle. Mom's gift aside, I obviously had a theme.
Mom was in the car, so I didn't want to spend too long in the store and I kept finding myself going the wrong way down aisles because they'd only put arrows on one side and not the other. After, Mums and I braved the grocery store and JFC, I hated every second of that. No. Just... no.
My actual birthday was really lowkey. I watched Crazy Ex-Girlfriend with Ozma and then my brother stopped by with my gift (Kahlua Especial!) and later D & Ari stopped by and we chatted (I with my mask) until it started to rain and then they left and I watched another episode before braving the rain to check the mail. In the time it took to drop off the plastic bag I'd taken with me in case we had a lot of mail (we had none) and decide to go back outside, the rain mostly stopped and holy crap, you could see the steam rising from the asphalt. Which was nice to know I hadn't imagined how hot it felt but still, kinda creepy. I tried for a walk but it was hot and I eventually turned around and came back after making it to the ponds behind the pool. That was when the thunder kicked in so I got my storm for my birthday (yay) but it didn't happen while Mom ran out to get my cake (double yay) and yeah. I didn't do much but people did appear and I got my favorite dinner and my period waited a day before smacking me.
And now I have ice cream and Kahlua. Mmm.
I was going to go check the mail, and I still might, but weather frog is cheerfully telling me it's 92 but feels like 108. Fuck that noise.
^ That was from... Saturday? Saturday. Well, most of it. I did add a few things when I realized I needed better pictures of my bag goodness.
I also remembered that I finally "finished" rounds 1 & 2 of Swatch-A-Thon by putting the swatch sticks on the little rings that come with the sticks. I used quotation marks because I have quite a few new polishes that need to be swatched and thus I'm not done anymore, but this is the nature of the beast. Anyway, I thought someone might be interested in seeing them fanned out. I will say that I do need new rings because certain colors (*coughPURPLEcoughBLUEcough*) definitely need more room so that I can actually sort them properly by shade. Also, after awhile that kind of sorting makes your head and eyes hurt and it does not help trying to do it on a black desk with an overhead light that's been blown out for a year or something now. I really need to clear off the bar again and send Widget up to investigate the light because I really think the headaches can be traced to that.
I did realize that I had a much easier time fixing a couple of things when I plopped them on the tote bags for pictures so um, yeah. That might be something I do soon, if my head ever stops trying to explode.

Ozma was being super helpful, can you tell?
