covid stupidity
Jul. 14th, 2020 09:18 am... should I be alarmed by the number of people I know, either as in close friends, or online friends who get tested for COVID and aren't doing so for funsies but because they've either been exposed or have symptoms but then come back negative, despite still showing those symptoms?
Just sitting here, I'm pretty sure I can name four or five without thinking all that hard. Yup. I'm only inclined to fully believe that one of those four (yes, I did just sit here for a second and count 'em off) might not actually have had it because they were tested multiple times and they came up with an alternate possibility that made sense to them and their doctor(s).
Cass's husband had a whole slew of symptoms and tested negative despite his job having a zillion and one positives and them refusing to shut down. A FB friend from middle school tested negative while her husband and youngest daughter both tested positive and she lost her sense of smell/taste.
I'm also twitchy because I made the mistake of opening the Nextdoor thingie because there'd been a post about a snake and I wanted to see which neighborhood had it (the digests tend to just give you enough to catch your interest but not enough to be actually helpful) and JFC, the sheer number of assholes in the immediate area who honestly seem to think that mask wearing is a political stance instead of, I dunno, being a decent goddamn human being/adult makes me rage. Also, our stupid governor has decided to cut off bars and restaurants at 11pm for booze sales so all those assholes will now be flooding the only place in town that's still fucking open and I'm not looking forward to that. Honestly, kinda want to cry at the thought of going right back to that but I shall be brave.
In other news, the AC decided to stop working properly yesterday which meant that I spent my last day of vacation melting. It wasn't so bad at first because I thought it was just doing that thing it "normally" does (I'm not sure how normal it is that we have to bail it out every few hours but whatever) and I bailed it out and went back to watching TV with the cat or ditzing around here. Not sure. Then Mom went to the store and while she was gone, I realized the temp was rising. At some point I decided to peek outside, realized there are a million fucking banana spiders around our AC unit (so much internal shrieking, you have no idea) but saw no ice from afar, and turned it off with the fan on, hoping it was simply because someone *coughWIDGETcough* turned the fan to On instead of auto, which meant that when the temps soared last week, the poor AC didn't get a rest. Alas, I wimped out and turned it back on when the temps climbed higher inside but eventually around dinner, Mums and I turned it off and after three hours, she turned it back on and I woke up to it being nice and chilly. Yesterday was cursed, btw, because the car needed a jump which Mom found out after buying a bunch of groceries, and if you don't have USAA insurance, I absolutely do not recommend them for car stuff because trying to cancel that appointment was fucking impossible (my brother appeared well before they were supposed to arrive) and I still hold a grudge from our accident but whatever.
This is basically my venting post. Going to try and figure out whether I should shower now or later. Now means I'll be done with all my have to do before work (well, I do need to throw my work stuff back in my purse, but that's easy) but later means that if the AC conks out when it gets hot again, I'll be able to escape into a shower. Hrmm.
