Sep. 8th, 2020 08:35 amMaybe I just don't do Tuesday mornings well? Ugh. Could be the period though.
Let's see. What have I been up to lately? New girl still wasn't ringing on the register at the end of my work week and all the people higher up the food chain took the holiday weekend off, so I'm not sure if that got fixed before Sunday when she was going to be on her own. My phone is charging so I can't send C a text to ask either.
My birthday Halloween goodies from my uncle came in over the weekend. The pumpkin kitties were in a huge box and I was worried they were as big as I initially feared they'd be, but turns out they're not much bigger than the knock-off version I bought at work. Much better, though. Not sure if the light up portion works as I don't have enough AAA batteries to try them out yet but they're solidly nifty even if the eyes don't glow. I hope they do, though. My Yankee Candle ghoulie ghost pieces came and I stood in the hallway for a good solid five minutes just slowly spinning them and looking at the ghosts flickering in and out of sight. Part of this was because I was looking to see if the votive holder had my favorite ghost (what, like you've never picked a favorite bit on a pattern?) and then the rest was me being easily amused by literal shiny things and also being very, very tired. I put those back in their boxes for now as I need to figure out where I'm putting them so I can properly admire them.
This also means I somehow wound up doing more cleaning than I intended, though not on the section I'd meant to clean. WOE. I did work on the bar, though, so not a total waste.
Yes. I clean before I decorate for Halloween. The holiday where cobwebs are a feature, not a bug. :P
I wanted to find the bar for a few reasons.
a) Cass's mom asked if I'd gotten my birthday gift (I had, I thought, and I'd sent a thank you card and everything) and then asked specifically about things I did not get. I wasn't 100% sure they weren't included and I knew I'd put my gift bag on the bar so I wanted to look and be positive before I got D in trouble.
b) I needed a place for my DIY Halloween village pieces to dry once I started.
c) The clutter was making me very, very twitchy.
d) I needed to check my swatch sticks to see if I had a similar color to a polish I was eying online.
I didn't clear it off completely but I did get enough done that I could check off each of the things on my list. No additional pieces of the gift forgotten. Round one of my village dried overnight. It's still cluttery but it's more of a "waiting for other things to be cleaned off so we can move to our proper destinations for the season" station for now. I looked and did not find a dupe but alas, the polish sold out before I decided I would, in fact, be ordering.
As I've mentioned once or twice over the covid times, I've been indulging my nail polish addict side during all this insanity. I haven't actually bought a ton of polish, but I've watched a gazillion videos and read more than was probably necessary. Alas, YT and IG have pretty much killed the nail blogger game and forced me to find new people (yay?) when looking for swatches/reviews of new polishes and mourn the losses when curious about older polishes. Bit of a tangent there, sorry. Anyway, I waffle between looking for swatches of the new stuff (specifically fall polishes-duh) and watching videos of people who swatch and go through their collection and aren't quite as "new shiny, new shiny" allllllllllll the time. It's a fun mix, though the collection people I've been watching have been kinda heavy on the indie polishes.
Which lead to Polish Pickup. Essentially you have a bunch of polish makers come together and created LE polishes around the month's theme and you have the first weekend of the month usually to pick and choose your goodies (on a pre-order basis) and some of them are really limited so you gotta be speedy. The other plus to it is you only pay $3 shipping and you can get polishes from around the world. Oooh. Ahhhhhhh. There's other stuff (like soap and wax melts and jewelry and nail stuff that isn't just polish) but eh. I've seem some colors over the past year I'd probably have liked to pickup but I never remember during the proper weekend and even when I do, I hem and haw over the prices and ultimately walk away because eh, nothing has caught my eye while available.
Yeah, this month's theme was All Hallow's Eve. DOOOOOOOOOOMED. I spent Saturday morning looking at the various polishes and fell in love with a couple. But could I justify the price? Waffled Sunday and watched a zillion swatch videos in an effort to decide whether my wanted polishes were worth the chance. Monday I realized that one of the polishes that I think had fuck-all to do with the theme but was stupidly pretty had not actually sold out after all. Last night I decided fuck it, I'm going to snag at least two polishes and naturally my second favorite sold out in between dinner and going up stairs to get my wallet. I'm wondering if I could combine two polishes I have to make an acceptable dupe for it but I knew nothing would work on the other since it's a thermal.
tl;dr: Bought first thermal polish. Hope to love it as much as I loved the pictures. Really fucking hope it gets here before we're too far into October.
So weird that school is starting after Labor Day. I mean, it's starting as much as it probably will this year. Bets on how the in person schooling will go in terms of Covid?
Time to find some breakfast and paint my nails.
