Oooh, it's chilly right now. I'm debating going upstairs to find my sunglasses (maybe in my pool bag?) and throwing on my slightly warmer dress for a walk to enjoy my second to last day of staycation. The weather for said staycation has been all over the place. Yesterday was rainy and it meant my sinuses felt like someone hit them with a frying pan, repeatedly, but Halloween was nice. So was the day before, even though it was obnoxiously sunny. Or was that Thursday?
I've been trying to walk each day in some form but some days I manage better than others. I did make three (four?) long walks back to the fancier part of the neighborhood to see the decorations and drop off books at the little free library. Part of me wants to grab another couple of books and head back and another part just wants to wander aimlessly without having to worry about carrying anything other than chapstick and my phone.
Mums and I watched Birds of Prey last night as I'd been saving it. Unfortunately, due to the aforementioned sinus issues, I'd had to knock back some Benadryl and thus I was a little sleepy. Still, I enjoyed it. Short of purists who wanted to see their version of BoP/these characters (which is fine, I get that), I'm not sure why more people didn't like this one? It was way more fun than a lot of the DC movies have been and at this point I'm thinking the ladies are saving the DC cinematic universe way more than the dudes.
Halloween was... eh. It wasn't terrible, it wasn't great. It kinda didn't feel like Halloween, really. We didn't get any trick-or-treaters which is normal, though I had wondered if maybe this year we'd finally get one because they'd be desperate for ~normal~ but I didn't turn the porch light on, either. I did have all the decorations lit (woo!) so I wouldn't have yelled at anyone who appeared. But they never do so it wasn't a huge worry.
I wound up having to gut my pumpkin because Widget didn't show back up til I was just about to nap, and then despite being home for a few hours, he didn't carve it, so Mums took pity on me and did this year's JOL. Watched Halloweentown which I don't think I've ever seen all the way through at once before, which is odd since Mums and Widget used to watch when he was little.
I do believe tonight's movie shall be Practical Magic while we play mahjong. I hope so, anyway.
I did finally perfect a version of DinoDrac's seeds and um, perfection. Both batches I made (one to be sure I had it right) disappeared over the course of TV watching. Fine, yes, both batches were eaten by me but I did offer them. No one else was brave enough to try this batch and that's their less because while I doubt they taste like DD's are meant to, they are really good if you throw in Cajun seasoning into the mix. Mmm. SO GOOD.
Inadvertently fell into indie nail polish drama (who knew? I should know as I know it's been pointed my way in the past but oh, how quickly I forget!) and finished --- I don't know where past!me was going with this thought but I'm leaving it in case future!me remembers.
Wrote all of that... Monday? Sunday? Eh. I haven't been great at writing because the cat has been very happy I've been home and she keeps hopping up to snuggle in my arms and that makes it impossible to type (the longer than usual nails aren't helping and naturally I just figured that out after I finished painting them. Frick.) and also my brain goes to mush when she snuggles. Also, my arm kinda hurts after long enough of having to contort myself into the shape she's chosen to snuggle into. The joys of cat ownership, right?
In other fandom-y news, AG apparently raised their free shipping threshold to $135 (up from $125) and I managed to successfully bait someone out of comment hiding for it. Yay? Annnnd she did the delete all the posts back to July stunt she does every few months. I fucking wish the mods would call her on that shit because it destroys all kind of discussions. But they won't because she's the source of most of their AG news. She usually only deletes when someone ticks her off (so easy to do) so I wonder who called her on what BS or dared to doubt her.
I digress. I think it's a dick move for AG to pass the shipping hike onto their customers and mostly because I'm not really blaming AG for this as, as far as I know, AG just uses whatever Mattel normally uses since that's what they did long ago when I was part of their Barbie fanclub. It was literally the same set up and the same tricks worked on both and since it's all Mattel, it makes sense it'd be the same. So that's less "AG passed the buck" and more "Mattel did." Annnnnnnd since I haven't been buying much anyway, it really doesn't matter. It's just that once upon a time post & delete chick mentioned, a lot, a psychological barrier for prices and how that's actually come into play a lot for AG in the past. And for me, this is the current barrier. Yes, it's totally easy to hit if you buy a doll and almost anything else. But this feels like something maybe to have held off on until after the holidays. *shrug* I mostly commented to see if I could bait whatsherface into disagreeing and also because I do think it's a dick move but since I'll live, it was kinda a throwaway comment. Like you get annoyed and then move on after expressing your annoyance.
Last day of vacation. Didn't make it to the beach, which is okay since it's been very windy the last few days and also the really sunny days have been relatively chilly. I've done windy at the beach and it's not something I would choose to do if I didn't live or stay nearby.
Not looking forward to having to jump back into hell, particularly since it doesn't sound like a soul spent Halloween socially distancing themselves from anyone. Oh, and also election day so I'm probably going to go out of my way to not watch live TV or anything because ohgod.
