Had I not gone out on Monday and thus started my Sandman viewing later, I'd intended on watching the new A League Of Their Own show, despite some of the reviews making me a little nervous. Well. Less review and more universal complaint: it takes about two seconds to figure out who's there because they're not only the (a?) star, they're also the show co-creator. Even if, like Mom, you had no idea the show was a thing that was happening and had read/heard NOTHING about it, you can clock it.
And that's painfully true in the first episode. Like cringe worthy. I... have mixed feelings. On the one hand, it's probably going to take me another episode to stop mentally comparing it to the movie because it's not the same story exactly. And right now that's kind of a shame because the characters are kind of flat. But it's also the first episode soooooo... (Ignore the fact that the movie managed to breathe life into more than a few characters pretty quickly because it had to. Shows can move slower and thus characters can take awhile longer to form.)
Basically: not a great pilot but I've survived worse and I am still hopeful. But if you took a shot each time someone swore (particularly shit and any variation of fuck), you'd be pretty wasted. I can't tell if the show wants to pretend it's shocking while also saying it shouldn't be or what, but it means the few times I think it's actually supposed to stand out? Yeah, it doesn't work.
