Okay, let's try and do this. Comcast is still a useless bag of dicks but maybe I can finagle something to work properly if I try. We'll find out. If nothing else, let's have it on tap for when that moment comes.
eta: WOO. Let's do this!

Anyway. AG introduced their AG|Disney Core line with three Disney Princesses not decked out in costly crystals. Before you ask, AG is saying there's no current plan to add the original three princesses (Belle, Jasmine, and Punzie) to the new Core line but I personally see no world in which AG doesn't try for that at some later date because they said no plan currently. LOOPHOLES, BITCH. Sorry. But AG is forever saying there's no plan currently for stuff we KNOW they have plans for so I'm telling myself we'll eventually get a Punzie redux if I wait patiently. Nothing beyond hopes, prayers, and the reading of loopholes on that.

So. Tiana, Ariel, and Cinderella debuted and my opinions are still a mixed bag, honestly. I think AG did a pretty good job of covering their bases when it came to outfit options and even the people who don't love this release do seem to have a few stars in their eyes, so overall I'm giving AG a solid A for this one, but there are some... issues. We'll get there soon enough. No more stalling, we're jumping into the deep end.

Princesses don't require crystals to shine. )

In general, I'd say AG did very well on something a lot of people have been hoping and begging for for years. It's not all to my taste, but I'm not a hardcore Disney person nor am I a little girl so my opinion doesn't really matter all that much. Overall, huzzah.

But uh, whoever said "Nanea mold for Ariel!", I'd like a word out back please.

FINALLY

Ever since we moved in here, the modem for the house has been in my room. I think it's because this is how the previous people had it and in order to do any big changes, Comcast required permission from the owners, but it's been ten years so my memory is fuzzy beyond "we can't do certain things without permission from the owners." Because the place is two stories with the hallway ceilings being high enough to give one vertigo if that's your thing, this has created some issues over the years, but things had been fine even after we switched over to the newer modem in the fall. Sometime around the start of the year, we noticed the signal was abysmal for a lot of things, so I tried troubleshooting it and somehow wound up with the Xfinity assistant thing sending a distress signal that meant we needed a tech.

So I agreed, set up a time and that got pushed back, and when he finally did show, I still didn't know exactly what the hell was going on. At this point in time things were still working, they would just be slower than they should be. Tech 1 takes out the splitter in my room and the splitter down at the box wherever our stuff is connected. He's overjoyed, something something fixed an issue upstream, k. It does not fix the issue. If anything, things get worse but not immediately. Then I get sick as hell and am not sure if I'm imagining the issues or not. Get better, realize our upload speed is literally less than dialup. Set up appointment for them to fix it.

Tech 2 comes and looks around, does some analyzing and points out that because it's an apartment/townhouse, their options are limited. The signal is very strong and he can't figure out what the problem is beyond a couple of things he can fix and some that should be fixed by getting wifi extenders, which he doesn't try to upsell the Xfinity ones and points out good places to put them and why they'd work. He also points out that the modem position is such that it's throwing a fantastic signal...to the trees. Things are okay (but nowhere near good) for a couple of hours after he leaves and then it goes to shit even more. It's impressive, really. I pony up for the wifi extenders and um... yeah. They don't really make it better, though maybe they get rid of Mom's room being a deadspot? They don't actively make it worse though, and I do think it helped a little...

Until yesterday morning when it all went tits up and nothing was working properly. Even Widget noticed. Enter Tech 3.

Tech 3 originally shows up and is all, "your service should be working better, it was just not plugged in properly." But then he gestures to the side of the building closest to us and Tech 2 said our line on that side was dead (or so filled with noise as to be dead) so it had to come down from the other end of the townhouses. I tell him that and he nods and then asks to see the modem, so I show him and he does some stuff and then says basically what Tech 2 did about the signal, the modem, etc. I show him the dialup would be faster upload speeds that absolutely do affect things and he thinks about it and eventually says he could drill a hole in the wall down here and just run the modem line down here, which should fix things.

It's taken them TEN YEARS to figure that one out. I say yes, please, if you think it'll work. It did turn out to be more complicated, but I genuinely think had I not followed the directions for the wifi extenders (to be fair, they were probably assuming the initial setup wasn't total fuckery), things would've been fixed right then and there. But I'd gone into bridge mode (I was told to!) and it took some futzing around to fix things. BUT he fixed it and while I'm gonna need to move things around a little bit, holy fuck is everything a million times faster.

I still don't know what the hell happened for everything to go sideways originally but things hadn't been this fast in eons so thank you, tech 3!

When I tell you trying to upload pics for the AG post would involve twenty minutes of loading for one image only to have it time out versus now when it's twenty SECONDS and the whole damn group is done? MAGIC.

I am now very, very tired. Time to get up and move around to see if I wake up enough to watch The Marvels or if it's nap time.
