impy: TJ from Recess wondering WTF? (TJ wtf)
Day 4? I dunno. We're going with Day 3 because we're talking about Thursday. I really wish work had just been smart enough to preemptively call shit for the overnight for the week, because then I could've really possibly enjoyed my snowdays. Alas, it is never to be because they kept being open for at least part of the day. Why? Who knows. I did learn that they had been open for a bit on Wednesday, but was extra pissed to realize they'd closed at 6pm and that meant that I was the last employee to know when I had to send a text after 7:30. Ugh. Anyway.

I spent the day operating under the assumption that work would be expecting me to come in, so I was trying to keep a semi-normal (for me) sleep schedule and that also meant I went out and had to clean off the car. RIP, snow. You were so pretty. But at the same time, I was realizing pretty quickly that what work wanted and what it would be getting were two entirely different things. Because the store was supposed to open at 8am. At 9am when I checked the news to see how much snow we actually got (I think 4" is the general consensus), I noticed that the main bridge for my commute had closed. Around 8am. It didn't open again, btw, until late in the afternoon. Y'know, about the time the roads were supposed to refreeze because the temps were gonna freefall again. BRILLIANT. Anyway, surrounding counties called a state of emergency fairly early on in the day when they realized what all us non-idiots realized, which was that all the snow that melted the previous day had frozen into ice and now you had entire swathes of road encased in black ice. This was not helped by the snow plows apparently not doing a proper plowing, though fuck if I know what that is, but Cass who did live in areas with actual regular snowfall had many complaints when watching them in action on traffic cams. I did see them plow the overpass by us though last night, so I can cross that off the bucket list. :P

Anyway, I realized at some point that if I couldn't even get to the street from our parking lot without sliding across the ice, I wasn't going to be going in unless my brother felt like driving. (I didn't ask directly, but did ask how icy things were on his end and they were just as icy as I thought.) So with that in mind, and double checking with Mums, I finished clearing off the car, made two snow-ice balls that I still haven't thrown at Widget (he disappeared before I could) and then went back in to watch The Nanny. At dinner, I woke to multiple texts, which let me know the SM had created a third shift group text and had actually added me, asking if any of us would be able to work last night so he could let the pharmacist know whether to come in. I was the last to reply but the others were both decided Nos. I cackled to myself because dude, no. I do wonder if he got anyone to cover or if work was just straight up closed.

I'm at the tired of the snow/ice portion of my snowdays and also we kinda need food, so I'm hoping conditions improve drastically over the course of today.

And now for something entirely not related to the weather, other than kind of wishing I'd thought to go through my books during my snowdays.

I've woken up around 1:30am the past couple of days, which works for letting me have the illusion of sleeping while under a blanket of snow but also not being too far removed from my normal schedule. Annnnnyway, before braving the downstairs where it's chilly, I've been playing some games and today I decided to put on a video while I ditzed around. Because I enjoy keeping my algorithms confused, I don't log in to my YT on my Kindle, so it'll show me people/things I don't necessarily see on my phone/computer. The distance shrinks every so often, so I wound up with a book-type recommendation and I mean... how could I resist the lure of someone talking about what they wish they'd known before scanning in their entire library?

My interest, you have enough of it that I ignored what I could of my game while still playing. Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnd it basically boiled down to two things:
1) People really will do ANYTHING to avoid using LibraryThing, huh
2) Scanning things is fun and I get that.

I will say that as I was watching/listening, I kept thinking about LT a lot, so when my game stalled out, I pulled up the comments and learned that she's definitely selling something she's using in the video (tbf, I'm pretty sure she says as much, and there's a free version of it anyway) and that "Library thing also lets you set up book cases so when you look up a book you get all of the info PLUS where it is in your house to which I say, self, look into this ASAP. Not right now, because you're making cupcakes and you will definitely fall down a rabbit hole and they'll burn, but like... in the future. It's not as much of a need for me/my books now, but should I attempt to tackle the LR books and stuff downstairs in general, like Mom's, then that would be very helpful.

I also was interested enough in her system (there are so many hoops that I am exhausted just thinking about it, but I am impressed with how thorough she is) that I watched part of the follow-up video (the one about the ultimate book tracker, it's the next video after this one) and part of my brain was absolutely soothed by how nitty gritty she was willing to get and part of my brain started screaming and is still screaming several hours later. Hence the post.

I will say that had I not already previously scanned in most of my books, she would've lost me at the inability for her scanning in system to properly handle duplicates because I am all about the multiple cover variations for certain things. Fine, fine, you caught me, I mostly mean SV. It still counts, dammit.

I should probably actually go through my LT sometime soon and add the books I've acquired since then, though a quick glance is showing me I'm not as behind as I thought, and then actually sift through and sort things into proper tags/collections. Not today though.

I should probably make breakfast and not think two quality check cupcakes count, right? Right.
