I know that if you follow the school of thought that says young adult books should be read mostly by young adults, I'm entirely too old for the Alice series. That said, I don't subscribe to any such notion and enjoy the hell out of them. The only real downside to them is that I resent the fact that they weren't being put out when I could have used my own Alice. :p

Of course, I tend to cringe when walking through the juvenile section of any bookstore as it sometimes seems as if no one wants to try and write anything since the advent of Harry Potter. I know that's not true, especially as Harry has aged a bit, but I remember there being what seemed like a million different books out when I was younger.

Second or third grade, I think, was when I got my first BSC book. Whenever Dawn & Little Miss Stonybrook was released, every girl in the class bought it from the book fair. That year they sold out of BSC books in record time. I think it made it much easier to buy me a gift then, as you could just buy me the newest book and I'd be thrilled.

In fourth grade I picked up the Sweet Valley High books by accident, and sped right through them. I remember going to the library and checking out almost every single one they had on the shelf that day. I could barely carry them to the desk, but I'd be damned if they tried to say I couldn't borrow them all simply because I couldn't carry them all by myself.

Somehow I found The Sleepover Friends and it was a pain in the arse to find anything past the first four books, but I loved them when I could snag one. For the longest time I thought that they made up the name River Phoenix. [since most books, at the time, did create their own stars instead of name dropping real celebrities.] I miss The Gymnasts series to this day because I adored them so. There were obviously others that caught my attention, and most still sit happily on a bookshelf under my protection.

Sometime after I outgrew most of them, the flood seemed to dry up and now it's kind of painful to walk down the aisle and see old BSC books waiting to sell out forever, the American Girl series, and then weird TV tie-in books, like the Full House and various other Olsen twin books that will never die. Throw in a row of Nancy Drew and you've pretty much made your own juvenile section.

The YA section has way more books, though I'm betting if I sat down and flipped through a lot of them, I'd find more Gossip Girl-esque books than I would like to contemplate. There's only so much glorified bitchery that should be floating around in the YA section, man. On the other hand, anything is better than the drought that was there however many years ago. That would have been after the rise and fall of Christopher Pike [love!] R.L. Stine [more fun to read his interviews than a good many of his books. ;_;], and the SV books. Whenever all that died, the YA section went right along with it.

laa. Nearly had a heart attack this morning. I was in the store, buying fooood, and I was putting my stuff down so I could go grab a little basket when this guy [I'm guessing as I couldn't see the door] walks in, screams "cockadoodledoo" [I know...] and then starts screaming for people to put their hands up. At first I thought, "Crack much?" and then it got very, very quiet except for this guy demanding that everyone's hands be in the air. The next thought was, "who the fuck robs the pig at 6:30am? the fuck?" When the silence stretched out and people seemed to be going about their day, I then realized it was some old dude who was freakishly religious and felt the best way to bring you closer to his god was to shout and yell and fucking give me a heartattack.

I'm not a big fan of people.

Paid of Rida. Yay! Well, not shipping, but that's coming later, with her possible boytoy. ...That sounds vaguely dirty.

Chantal Kreviazuk's song In This Life makes me cry at work. I must own it.
