How every day should begin:

Wake up on time, finish getting ready with a couple of minutes to spare. Make it three steps down the staircase, have your right leg [the one the dog seems to think is supposed to bend the other way] develop a sharp, freakish cramp that makes you wonder if someone left spikes sticking out of the steps, and then seconds after the cramp subsides, you fall down the stairs, bashing the knuckles on your left hand along the wall, and when you go to inspect the damage, notice it's as if you have a freakin' hole in one of the knuckles. Needless to say, there's blood and your leg is not happy about the situation.

That, as if it weren't obvious, was how I started my day. Really, nothing says, "Let's go to work!" like managing to injure yourself in less than a minute.

It appears I shall not make it to the FOL sale this month either. I thought I was working 12-8 tomorrow, but no, I'm working 10-6 for some odd-ass reason. I'm so used to working one for three days, then swtiching and working the other for the last two days of my work week [which'll then start off the next three, and switch] that I guess I just assumed they'd continue it after Tracey defected. But no.

Hardback, trade paperback or mass market paperback?
Depends on the cover. If I really love you, I buy you in hardback. Otherwise, odds are good I'm going to go completely superficial and buy the prettiest version I can find.

Barnes & Noble or Borders?
B&N, because we don't have a Borders, and while the outlet is lovely, it's uh, crap comparatively speaking.

Bookmark or dog-ear?
I refuse to answer on the grounds I might incriminate myself. But unless I'm reading it at work or it's alibrary book [and thus has a handy "due back" card, I frequently don't have bookmarks...

Amazon or brick and mortar?
If I know exactly what I want, and I don't need it immediately, Amazon. If I want to browse, or need it ASAP, I prefer to spend forever walking up and down the aisles, wishing.

Alphabetize by author or alphabetize by title or random?
Random. So little shelf space means that I group them by author, then series, and there's really no logic behind the series/author and where they sit actually on the shelf. If I had more space, well, that would be another story entirely.

Keep, throw away, or sell?
Keep. You can't throw away a book, it's against all the laws of nature. If you cannot keep it, then you sell it, gift it, or donate it.

Keep dust jacket or toss it?
Keep it.

Read with dust jacket or remove it?
I usually try to read with it on, but the longer it takes me to read the book, the more likely it is I'll take it off and then lose it temporarily.

Short story or novel?
Novel, usually.

Harry Potter or Lemony Snicket?
Harry Potter.

Stop reading when tired or at chapter breaks?
Wherever I lose interest long enough to close the book and run. Or pass out.

"It was a dark and stormy night" or "Once upon a time"?
"Once upon a time" though bonus points if you combine the two.

Buy or borrow?
Buy! Now find me someone rich to foot the book bills, kay?

New or used?
I prefer new, but I ain't proud. I just want the book.

Buying choice: book reviews, recommendations, or browse?
I almost never pay attention to reviews, but I will listen to the crazy person on the aisle who cringes when they see the book. But usually if I want it, it's because I've heard something good, or it looks nifty.

Tidy ending or cliffhanger?
Tidy ending., dammit.

Morning reading, afternoon reading, or nighttime reading?
All of the above, though reading in the middle of the night, curled up on the couch, or in bed if it's winter, makes me happiest of all.

Stand-alone or series?
*shrug* Either, although with a series there's usually hope for more of what you just got.

Favorite series?
I don't have one, but I'll break your kneecaps if you touch my sweet valley stuff, even the really, really bad books. :P

Favorite children's book?
...I'll get back to you on that.

Favorite YA book?
Again, I'll get back to you. [I'm a lousy book lover, I can rarely pick favorites when asked.]

Favorite book of which nobody else has heard?
...I'm not even going to try.

Favorite books read last year?
Pretty much any of the Scott Westerfeld or Sarah Dessen books I stumbled across, most likely. Special mention goes to The Truth About Forever.

Favorite books of all time?
Again, I'm awful at playing favorites, so I'll give the standard answer.
One of the only school mandated reads that I ever loved was Lisa, Bright and Dark, which did absolutely nothing to endear me to people I was stuck with for the next five years. And The Season of Passage always makes me wish there were more.

Least favorite book you finished last year?
Was Danse Macabre released last year? If so, that. Totally that. My brain hurt oh so very much. If not, um... I'm still going with that, as the lingering side effects included an inability to let go of the storm cloud of pain.

What are you reading right now?
Proven Guilty - Jim Butcher

What are you reading next?
I have no idea.

Favorite book to recommend to an eleven-year-old?
Hell, I don't remember what I read as an eleven year old, but I imagine it was YA horror, so who am I to suggest anything?

Favorite book to reread?
Quit asking for my favorite, dammit.

Do you ever smell books?
...you mean everybody doesn't?

Do you ever read Primary source documents?
uh, occasionally.

Toodles.
