*cackles* My new American Girl doll arrived yesterday. This morning I got my shipping confirmation email from the AG site. Fantastical! Speaking of which, Ruthie... will grow on me. I'd forgotten that the dolls are kind of hit or miss-then-grow-like-fungus. And you will never fall for your own. :p

But she's cute and not too similar to Sam, which I was worried about. However, the real love kicked in when I read her book. *cuddles Ruthie* You're so sweet! So huggable! And... I'm really not loving Kit. She tolerates your fairy-tale loving ways? Uncool! I would more than tolerate, I would... um, well, probably create new ones. Duh.

*dances* I found my smidge of story for NaNo. Oh yes. However, I do not trust myself not to lose it, particularly since I ripped it out of the notebook it was in [it was Mom's otherwise I'd have just left it there.] so... up here it'll go for safe keeping and easy tweak-ability, considering it was written when I'd had no sleep for ages, and was busy trying to kill spiders. The fumes! The rage! The sleep deprivation:

I changed out of my stupid uniform (really, isn't the whole point of public school to join a gang and/or wear your own damn clothes?) and wandered back downstairs. If Penny was upset enough, maybe this could be interesting.
Sure enough, Penny was babbling on about Max and his mysterious new girlfriend, Regina.
"How do you know they're dating?" I asked as I helped myself to half of her pile of cookies.
Penny shot me a Look. "Trust me. I know. I don't get it! He and I could talk for hours about everything and nothing at all. But here he is with someone who can barely string two sentences together and when she does, they're all about shoes!" Penny's normally pretty face was turning an unfortunate shade of splotchy red. Dad and I both jumped when she smacked her fist down on the counter top.
"I just don't get what he sees in her! Well, I get it... She's pretty, and probably one of those girls who was really popular in school and is still really popular and everybody loves her even though she's a complete and utter idiot..."
Aw, hell. Penny was about to cry. And then rant about popularity and the unfairness of being unable to truly escape high school. And then she'd cry some more.
"Maybe he got tired of talking," I offered before beheading a gingerbread man.
  "Skye," Dad said warningly.
What? Penny can be really intense even on her best days. Maybe Max got tired of trying to live up to her freakish expectations and bolted. He found the furthest thing he could from Penny and now he's killing time with the village idiot while he recharges. Finds himself. Remembers how to breathe, or what it's like to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich cut into triangles and not hear someone scream about how that's just for little kids and you should really think about growing up one of these days. Hey. It could happen.
But I didn't say that. Not a single word. Partly because they'd kill me.
But mostly because I didn't want to believe it. I liked Max. I really liked him, actually. He was the only boyfriend Penny brought around who seemed like a decent guy. The only guy who noticed me and didn't just kind of stare out the window, waiting for dinner with the extended weirdo part of the family to be over so he and Penny could, well... Yeah.
I concentrated on biting the limbs off my other cookies so they couldn't run away.

Sleepy.
