Jul. 31st, 2009 11:19 amAttention! I have begun reading Skin Trade. Please monitor my behavior for the next week or so to make sure my braincells haven't left in droves. Thus far I'm maybe sixty or so pages in and there's been a decided lack of sex. Which is good. Sadly, this means that instead of banging my head on the nearest hard surface in horror of the same recycled sex scenes, I've been forced to pay attention to her sentence structure. And I tell you, it makes me weep. The idea, thus far, is a decent one. Sort of. But the language barrier [I'm not fluent in Anita and hope never to be] is a bit daunting. Somewhere I've got a piece to share that should illustrate my problem.
Aside from this one biggie. The bad guy from... whichever book has returned. Sort of. This is the one who ran around killing people and Anita was too busy sexing it up to do a damn thing about it. The book ENDS with a note from the guy saying he's left town, k? And she doesn't follow or really give a damn about him. He's someone else's problem. (Early Anita is spinning in her grave.) He sends Anita a head, makes it damn clear he's got a trap set for her.... and even Edward's warning her away. So she doesn't wait to talk to anyone, she runs off on her own because she doesn't like the fact that she's now "forced" to live under the Circus these days and that so many men have control over her in her life, blahblahblah.

Box.
Trap. Goes anyway. Immediately begins with the "I'm pretty and a GIRL and you're just a jerk for not thinking I'm capable of doing my job... even though this guy is only running around your town because I was busy fucking anything male that looked in my direction, but ignore that because I CAN DO MY JOB. So NYAH."
*throttles fictional character*
I had something else but the bottled annoyance that just spilled wiped it all away. But that means I can focus on the agony at hand and not dwell on the old stuff... jah?
