Oh, Walmart. I hate you so. Where else can I walk around for twenty minutes carrying five laundry baskets and pass no less than ten employees, quite a few of them twice and have not a one ask if I need help or at least one of the many abandonded shopping carts they were hoarding?

Even the employees at our Target, the ones who will ignore anyone who isn't bleeding, eventually cave and ask, or at least look at you and then decide whether you're just crazy or actually in need of assistance. (This isn't really a dig against Target in general, it's just that this one, my favorite, believes that customer service is a bit of a myth that should be beaten and stomped out of existence immediately.)

My hands freakin' started turning funny colors after awhile. I, you might imagine, was not pleased. Granted, I wasn't exactly looking for anything other than Mumsy at the time, but that's because I had my hands full and could not find the woman with the goddamned cart. I passed so many employees that if I hadn't been at the Walmart by my job, and been a little worried that news would carry, I might have thrown a bitchfit right there in the goddamned store.

And sweetie, baby, honey, I hate drawing attention to myself in public.

But I didn't. Mostly because of that attention thing, but also because the person I was truly ticked at was Mums because for someone who wasn't all that thrilled at the prospect of going to Walmart, she certainly managed to get lost enough. Nyargh.

And just to sucker me in for next time, they had the new reissue of The Last Vampire books 1-3. So. PRETTY. *dies*

So pretty but how do you feel about the renaming of the series from The Last Vampire to Thirst? I like that as a title but not sure how I feel about retitling for marketing purposes.

Huh. I hadn't thought of it, I was so distracted by the pretty and the way it practically glows in the dark on the bookcase. Even without my glasses, that baby can be seen across the room.

I don't think Thirst works so well for the various Sita stories since she's not all that thirsty, at least as far as vampires in fiction go. She is, however, always going on about being the Last Vampire even when she's not anymore.

Oh yeah. I forgot about the fact that she would go on and on about being the last. I kinda miss her wangst. :-( Those books were SO good (until the end when the author totally destroyed the integrity of the entire series...but let's just ignore that part).

Though I guess the marketing has been working. It's been on the NYT bestseller list since it came out. On the one hand, I'm kinda glad to see all these teen vampire books coming back from our childhood and not just getting mucho attention but really selling. But on the other hand, it makes me sad that people are such marketing sheep and are just getting sucked into this vampire haze that has stricken the book industry. And you know ALL the people who bought those books (Thirst and Vampire Diaries) arent buying them for the reasons you and I would (nostalgia and be cause we used to love reading them) but because "ooh vampires!" I dunno. On the one hand, I understand it. Cuz I am definitely "ooh vampires." But on the other hand I wonder how many of these people are REALLY vamp fans and how many just want to recreate the Edward Cullen lovefest in their brain.

I think I just outted myself as a purist. LOL! Don't worry - if this were the Harry Potter world, I would be VERY accepting of Muggle-borns.

I was about to mention how the last one ended for another reason why Thirst didn't really work, but I thought maybe not speaking of the ending (nyargh!) was best. I loathed how he ended it and yet on some level it seemed almost fitting. Kinda.

The "vampires are the new sexy!" thing drives me batty. For my/our lifetime, they've pretty much been sexy beasts and if you didn't realize that, dude. You were obviously meant to be their walking happy meal. And I feel weird about books I loved being re-released as something new for obvious old reasons. I don't like the rush of "how can we cash in on the Twilight/True Blood" things, especially when it is a lot of "If you liked them, you should like these things that pre-date them, but you'll think they're inferior rip-offs!" and I'll have to smack them with a stolen cane.

Which is mostly me agreeing with you.
