You know what would be more helpful than spending more time in school, Mr. President?

Schools that actually taught things other than how to pass the nine million standardized tests out there. Yeah. Really. That would be more helpful than cutting summer vacation short and upping the school day's hours. For the record, I'm not against adding a little time to the school day, but if you add too much, you're going to see kids who were just barely hanging on before flee. I know that had you added an extra hour or three to my middle school days and I would have cracked up.

And while I exaggerate on a daily basis, usually hourly, I honestly mean that. And I wasn't one of the kids who didn't get the information and whose brain wasn't fully hardwired learning wise. I would have snapped because that much time spent with people who actively try and ruin your day is not healthy. As for high school, the only thing that kept me there as long as I did manage to stay was the fact that our school day seemed really short. Sadly, at the end, that wasn't enough. Please see "people who delight in other people's misery" for reasons why.

Mostly though, I cannot imagine Widge actually making it through such massive changes. He'd snap. It's hard enough as it is because he's not getting it. I don't know what to do because it's so different from how I was at that age. Plus I'm not sure if it's all he can't understand, or if part of it is simply he refuses to try any harder because it's not easy.

And now we move on and an open letter to all readers:

Stop.

Comparing.

Everything.

To.

Twilight.

NOW.

Even people who hated Twilight or the media shitstorm that is the Twilight phenomenon will break out the title at any mention of any vampire book/movie/sneeze, and I've got to say it's annoying the hell out of me. All vampires are not created equal. Even the tame ones aren't. So don't think that for every new vampire book thrown out on the market you have to tell us that "fans of Twilight would..." or even mention the name. No. Stop. No cookies for you.

Vampires existed long before and hopefully will continue to do so long after this insanity has ended. In the meantime, please remember there's no need to lump them all in the same category. Also? No need to bitch about the sheer number of vampire novels out there. You know what else is on an upswing?

Zombies.

Yeah. If given a choice between a zombie and a vampire, I'll take the vampire. Even if it's the scary Black Court variety from the Dresden Files. Because zombies are just wrong. Unless, of course, we're talking the ones from Generation Dead, and then I'll take the zombies. Because those aren't the mindless horde.

*makes strangling motions* G'ah. People! Anyway, this second rant was caused by the various reviews of Sucks to Be Me which is a fluffy little vampire novel that has very little in common with most other vampire novels out there, even on the fluffy end of the spectrum. And yet people. kept. comparing. it. to. twilight. *slams heads onto desks*

Idiots. Every last one of them.

...they're remaking Nightmare on Elm Street? I know they've remade every other horror movie at this point, but really?

I don't mind them remaking crappy horror movies because, well, they're crappy. But you don't touch the classics for a reason. Then again, truthfully, I've yet to see quite a few horror movies because I'm a wuss about watching them alone.

Well, see the problem is that the Asian horror films aren't crappy. They're actually really good and better than a lot of American horror...which is probably why Hollywood is trying to capitalize and remake the Asian flicks over here. They've done okay with some. The Ring was good, and the first two Grudge movies were decent. But others, like One Missed Call, haven't been so successful.

I wasn't even thinking of Asian horror movies and certainly not as crappy. (I believe my friends when they tell me it's the remakes that suffer, not the originals.) I was thinking of... crap, I can't think of a movie off the top of my head.

But there are always movies where the idea is solid, it's the execution that failed miserably. And those movies are the types I'm thinking of. If Group A screwed it all up, maybe Group B can do it better. Or Group C.
