impyIt's day two of the Harry Potter 30 Day Challenge, and so I present to you my rant on...
02. Your favorite book
The Prisoner of Azkaban, no question. Part of this might have a lot to do with the fact that it was the first HP book I read without have any idea of what could happen, other than Mums had warned me that Harry did not get to live with Sirius, but that was simply because I asked her sometime during the course of the book. I knew what would happen in Chamber because for the most part the first two movies stuck very, very closely to the books. If I hadn't seen the first movie by the time I read the book, Mums had explained quite a bit of what I'd missed right after CoS. So I had the first two books... not exactly spoiled, but they weren't new territory, I suppose.
PoA was new. (Not at that point, mind you, but new to me.) You had a more than competent Dark Arts teacher who befriended Harry and was not a complete and utter nut job in terms of being an adult, but wasn't so grownup so as to be useless. Not only that, but he was an old friend of Harry's father's and you had the intrigue with Sirius Black and there was enough backstory to keep me happy, because I happen to like it. You could easily choose to ship Sirius/Lupin if you wanted (or not), the twins were mischievous, and oh yeah, OLIVER WOOD CRIES.
To say that the movie pissed me off would be a fucking understatement. I shook in rage when seeing the lack of OLIVER CRYING. WTF, man. WTF.
But mostly I love that in retrospect, PoA will break your heart if you let it. Harry has so much hope for going to live with Sirius, someone who wants him around and is, arguably, an adult and the closest thing Harry has to family... and then when OoTP comes out, it kills that hope. Yeah, Sirius would have been a really bad role model for the boy, and I can only imagine how the hell they would have gotten on after awhile but still. For one bright, shining moment Harry has someone who wants him around and you cannot forget how important that is to people of all ages, not just children.

Before I go slam my head against a wall and attempt to finish Bullet (and the essay that comes afterward will be for my own piece of mind), I remembered that on my toy travels, I did see a couple of other things.
Twilight dolls:
I saw Alice in person, and she was adorable but Kmart had her seriously overpriced. Also saw Victoria and she looked like she'd been whacked with the ugly stick. I'm pretty sure that the guy also on the aisle got a smirk out of my, "OHMYGOD, What? NO!" face when I finally comprehended the fug.
