Let's judge my OOoh, Shiny! shelf at goodreads, shall we? You could go look it up on the site, but I wanted a semi-permanent reminder so, pictures for the linkless.

Look at all that potential just sitting there, waiting for me to have the time to read them all. Look at it. Gaze upon it and tremble.

Now factor in the numerous other books I would gladly add to that pile if I could just find them at the same time I felt like updating.

Still reading The Dead Tossed Waves. I'm not sure what to make of it. I'm reaching my fill of whiny, weak, fuck-ups who are still going to waltz away with at least two and a half hearts. When did we all decide that every heroine in YA fiction (and no, I don't mean every, but a good majority of the ones I find fall in this category) had to be less Sailor Anyone Else and more Sailor Moon? Not even Chibimoon. Or Moon at the end of any given season. I mean the beginning of the first couple when even she knows she's got to pull it together if she's going to be donning the short skirt and heroic boots.

Whatever. Tangent over. Back to Dead Tossed Waves. Tis the sequel to The Forest of Hands and Teeth which was much more atmospheric than TDTW is even attempting. That's a strike against Dead because one of the few things I loved about Forest was the way it was presented. On the other hand, when presented with a crush of Unconcencrated, at least one character actually takes the time to pick them off one by one instead of waiting for the horde to overwhelm the thin wall between them. So... step in the right direction?

(YES. Even after all this time I still get miffed thinking about how you don't wait for the zombie horde to break down your front door when you can off them from the safety of the third {or higher} floor. What kind of fuckery is that?!)



So... off to see if my trip to N. Chas is on. Wish me luck?

I'm about halfway through the book and Mary has gone back into the forest (not that I could tell you why other than her daughter needed an excuse to fuck things up and this gave her a massive one) and now Gabry, the daughter, has realized her mother left her literary breadcrumbs to follow her through the forest.

However, I'm awful and have peeked, a little, at the end, and I get the feeling that she completely forget the whole religious aspect she had going, as well as the creeping dread that propelled the first one. Thus far the only religion mentioned are the Soulers who worship the Mudo/zombies/whatever.
