Part of my plan for today was to do a massive picspam of the MH dolls I deboxed over my vacation. (SO MUCH PRETTY.) Yeah. Headache killed that. However, my other plan was to share my birthday goodies with you guys and that can be done. Not necessarily perfectly, but still we can get this done.

My first order of business upon starting my vacation was to dye my hair red. I don't know when I decided I would turn 31 as a redhead of some sort, but I did and by god, I was going to do it right! Yeah. The color turned out much darker than I intended but still. It wasn't orange and I mostly liked it. I say liked because it's red and red dies quickly unless you want it to do so, so now it's morphed into a different shade of red. My favorite thing about going red is that when it settles in to stay a spell, people assume I am a redhead naturally. Even if it's just one person each time, I accept this.

Anyway, to do this I needed something to listen to. When one is dying their hair, they must listen to Tori Amos. It is the law. Thing is, I can't remember where I left my Tori CD book so I had to make do with what I had in my room. I didn't really want to listen to her latest, but I did find my Welcome to Sunny Florida bonus disc.
I fairly quickly found myself liking songs I'd never really paid much attention to before, which made me remember one of my favorite things about Tori songs. Give 'em enough time and you'll find that you're in the right place and time to appreciate a good deal more than you ever would have imagined. I could berate myself for not loving Ruby Through The Looking Glass, Seaside, Bug A Martini, and Apollo's Frock sooner, but hey, sometimes you just need time.

The great thing about birthdays is you get free stuff. Or almost free stuff. Whatever.

With Mattel shutting down the Barbie Basics line, I've had to find other things to spend my BC quarterly rewards on. This time I settled on this set of plates to go with my Christmas plates from earlier in the year:

The best thing of all was that they were free. Completely, utterly free. Shipping included. :D

Amazon had has the Roller Maze girls on sale a few times. I snagged Operetta and Lagoona after I last got paid because I cannot resist Lagoona.

Photobucket
Meh picture for a very pretty doll, though I don't think green was a great choice for her hair. Just sayin'.

Photobucket
Hair puffs! My weakness! And also Lagoona. But hair puffs!

I think I'm pretty upfront about my Lagoona love. It remains one of my greatest disappointments in the MH line that more isn't done with Lagoona in general, but she is sane and more easily understood than Ghoulia, so... I'll just accept that Lagoona, Abbey, and Ghoulia are too awesome to be in everything all the time. And the great Ghoulia glut of last year definitely taught me that.

Sephora does free gifts for birthdays, but I don't know whether they work in the department store versions of the store or not, so I decided I'd buy something cheap online to get my free Sugar lipduo. Of course by the time I decide to buy something, there's a decided lack of nifty cheap things. Ain't that always the way? :P Anyway, I decided on the Sephora gloss in Passionate Dance, which looks far darker here than it does in reality. It's glittery and I can't really describe the shade because saying pink with an orange undertone and glitter sounds ugly and it's not. I wasn't really sure I'd like it, but it's far kinder than I would have ever expected. Go figure, eh?
Anyway, the lip duo is awesome and the packaging makes me happy. (Cuteness kills me, k?) One of my freebies was a perfume sample that I've fallen in love with. I haven't quite had the guts to look up how much it costs since it's the first perfume I've loved enough to want to buy in years.

Saturday at work I did the math and realized that with the end of my W card, I'd be paying about $2 for the Revlon lipsticks pictured here. I guess orange was a thing for this summer and I'm not really sure how well this worked out for me.

The lip butter balm on the far left is being exchanged, I think. The color is very pretty (it's creamsicle) and it smells really good which is surprising for a Revlon lip product. But it washes me out horribly. I'm not sure who would look good in this shade. If you're wondering why I bought it, well, I assumed it would be a nude. No, it's a strange really light orange. I don't... understand it, really.

The Just Bitten balm stain is in Charm and also orange but it's closer to the nude I thought Creamsicle would be. I'm thinking it would work if paired with something else, so I'm going to experiment and see what can be done.

If you were playing along at home and wanted to know new kitty's name and aren't one of the two people I think are also updated on my goings on fb (y'know, once or twice a month), she was ultimately named Ozma. For some reason when Widget's little sister was born and named, I decided I would call her Ozma. At the time the logic made perfect sense but in the last five or so years, I've forgotten it completely. My naming powers never stuck in this case but since Miss Kitty shared the same name as little sister, I thought it was a sign. Mums has sort of protested and decided to call her Ozzy instead.

I'm off to see if I can sweet talk her into spending some time with me.

As a former Wizard of Oz nut, I approve, even though you now need another cat so you can use McGonagall. :-D

I do, I do. I also need to find my copy of Ozma of Oz to re-read it. Apparently I need to hang out with different people who aren't, "Oz...whatta?" to the name. :P

Anyone who doesn't get the Ozma reference should be punched in the throat.

By far, this is the best red dye out there. It lasts a super long time and is just bright enough to be eye-catching, but awesome enough that people wonder if it's real. When I went to get my fire hair done, I asked the girl to do red after having done the box job myself about 6 weeks prior and she said that she didn't want to mess with it since that color was way better than anything she could give me, so I ran home and got my second box of this dye that I had.

Curses! The one brand that does terrible, no good, horrible things to my hair is anything Garnier. The time I inadvertently went a horrible shade of purple? Garnier. The neon yellow incident that I do not like to speak of and pray dearly that there are no photos floating around of? Garnier. The orange that dare not speak it's name? Garnier.
