Round up of stuff
Nov. 1st, 2012 01:06 pmLJ is again shooting itself in the foot. I don't understand why, but they are. It's like they want to destroy the site but... why not just throw your hands up and walk away if that's the ultimate goal?
I have no massive feelings for DW aside from a knee-jerk reaction of "this, again?" when people speak of moving, en-masse there. Well. Untrue. I think at this point I'd be following three people and having to seek out new comms and at this point it just makes me sad. So maybe DW invokes sad. I dunno.
The kicker, of course, is that the very thing LJ is seeking to eliminate/change so drastically as to make the site itself a ghost town? Is the one thing I love about the site more than anything else. It's what I wish most desperately for when I'm on other sites. I wish I could see all the tumblr blogs I follow (or am now, after a massive add-a-thon this morning) in my own style and not some crappy boring style (is this possible?) that renders things so blah in comparison. I hate infinite scrolling on FB, but that's less infinite scrolling and more FB fucks up the timeline because no.
The FL is the reason I stubbornly refused to use whatever blogging thing the Charmed crowd (which is how I ended up here, on this name, in the first place) was doing at the time. I had a LJ (didn't want the streams to cross, y'know) and I thought the FL was way better suited to communication. And it was. It is. It's what makes LJ.
You complete and utter fuckwits.

I'm pretty proud of myself for going through the 31 Days of October challenge I set for myself. :) It wasn't quite what I planned, but I did it and it made me happy while doing it, so I'm hoping other people enjoyed it, too. :)
I think I'll do a picture-round up sometime this weekend because I think it would be nice to have all the pictures gathered in one spot. And that way I can sneak in a few that got lost in the shuffle or when photobucket decided that arranging things should be done in the most insanely stupid way possible.
Shouldn't improvements actually improve things? But I tire of crankiness! It's still fall (that's right, tumblr! Fall/Autumn is not code for "October" so you can skip straight to winter and Christmas. No. Fall deserves at least half of November and technically all of it, dammit. Christmas gets December (and I'll give you Black Friday on if you throw me an autumn bone mixed in til December), and then winter lasts straight on through February and into March. It doesn't need November, too.
I'm apparently filled with crankiness. Ah well.

This, for those who remembered, is/was my entry in the MH comm Halloween contest. I didn't place (woes) but I'm actually still pretty fond of how it turned out. It could have been better, but at the end of the day I still like it and I'm pretty sure that's what matters. :)
my tumblr if you're bored or you just cannot wait til picture round-up day. (most of the stuff came from there and there's more autumny/Halloween stuff.) I need a new theme, though, but I'm not all that comfy with these things yet. Nor, do I suspect, will I ever be.

Date: 2012-11-02 01:03 pm (UTC)Fine, if you want to make the site shiny and appealing to those who are used to such things in their websites, but don't rip away the customization ability that makes each journal (that'd be the J in LJ, LJ-asshats) personal. Or legible to those who use it.
Also, you can't go two journals without finding grumbling from people over how the Overlords are treating their userbase, so if I were a newbie and I saw that? Dude, I wouldn't stick around. It's not like FB which you're kind of forced to have these days and it never WILL be, either.
Sigh. It's looking more and more likely that I'll have to slowly trudge to DW but the thought of it doesn't fill me with glee. I want LJ to get their heads out of their asses and stop fucking things up so royally.
Might as well wish for that lottery win while I'm at it, huh? That one is actually far more likely. :P

Date: 2012-11-02 01:18 pm (UTC)"Was" being the operative word there :-/ Fandom used to be more text-based (discussions, meta, hell even the WANK was text-based!) and that's what I like about it. I like talking to people, not trying to bond over gifs. Gifs are great and all, but at least for me, there's way more to have fun with. IDK....it makes me feel old, LOL.
I want LJ to get their heads out of their asses and stop fucking things up so royally.
LJ is firmly a Russian company now, setting out to serve its Russian userbase, who use LJ as a political platform instead of a personal one. The overlords have even stated in the past that they'd rather be rid of their current userbase in order to attract a new one than appease us - hence my thoughts on deleting my journals altogether.
Like I said...really, it depends on if people I like stay here or not, but more and more, DW is becoming my fannish home base. Plus I feel like my locked content will actually stay locked over there, where mods still give a damn about their users and actually listen when they bring up issues. I just feel like LJ is going to sell me out any minute now...

Date: 2012-11-02 01:40 pm (UTC)I do wonder how the divide between the Russian users and the non!Russian users comes down. From my skimming of the posts related to this newest kerfluffle, it appears no one likes this change (that is, apparently, semi easy enough to fix if LJ chooses to be sensible for the first time in years?), no matter the country so...
I'm going to have to devote some time soon to seeing if anyone else I know and love has moved over to DW and is easily found. The last time I peeked, it was still decidedly a ghost town for the areas I'd be interested in.
I figure, in my more cynical moments, that LJ has already sold everyone out and it's just a matter of time before they reveal how bad the sell out was.
