Read Time's article on the insanity that is medical costs in the US today. I need to become a gazillionaire so that I can start a hospital that doesn't think it's perfectly okay to charge seven dollars for something that comes in a box of two hundred for two bucks at one of the more expensive places around. That's just... how do you justify that? And when pressed, most of the hospitals interviewed basically said "everyone knows this is a joke, no one's really expected to pay that except for the exceptionally wealthy" when you know who is expected to pay it?

The poor but not poor enough to qualify for the expenses to be written off entirely. Some of the lines used in attempting to justify essentially torturing people with the bill collectors afterwards is just... I believe that if I heard tomorrow that all the people quoted in this article who attempted to seriously defend the insane markeups were killed, I would consider each and every death justifiable. Even if they weren't quick or painless.

There's a place reserved in hell, guys. A place in hell.

Anyway, my mythological hospital would figure out the right balance between "BYOBandaids" and "keep us comfortably afloat" without, I dunno, losing our souls in the process. There's got to be a way to do it, it just needs to be worked out. Sort of like those doctors who still do house calls and believe in bartering.
Yup. It needs to happen. So, who wants to finance this pipe dream?


Also, who wants to find me a goddamned house? Smurfhouse is looking less and less like a viable option. I found a tentative workaround on my dislike for my cable company not being available out there yet (since it shouldn't be a deal breaker, self) and then Mom talked to the utility people and the house hasn't been occupied in ages, but the electric bill for last month was... probably what we're paying now, a little less. No one lives there, how the hell is the bill so high? Other than them running the air all the time, which doesn't bode well for the summer. So, as I'm coming to grips with the knowledge that Smurfhouse is probably a no, Mom pulls out a letter from BoA which is basically reminding us that ~Foreclosure~ lurks around the corner.

What the actual ever loving fuck, universe? I am trying here, the least you can do is throw me a non-diseased bone, k? Sent three queries out on CL, one came back and is most assuredly a scam, so that leaves the other two. Here's hoping the one that sounds better isn't a scam, is still available, and works out.

CL is a total bitch when it comes to looking for a house. I've sent out dozens of emails, ans only gotten a handful of responses. They wanted a credit check on every person that would living in the house, and they couldn't even give me a street name because the property had been vandalized before is the most common response. I wish you luck.

Well, I feel better (sorta) given that every single person who finds out "oh, you guys are moving? Try CL!" Which I'd normally chalk up to differences in cities and such but no, these jackasses are local and still saying that. What gives, guys?

I... won't even touch the whole "no street name" thing beyond virtual smacks for people.
