A day in the life of an Aunt

Yes, you get two entries back to back because you are that special. Remember when I was all "eeeeeee! The Fosters!"? No? Well, I was. Anyway, Monday they had a marathon so I was watching and Widget appeared to "spend time" with me. Which mostly involves watching TV and trying to get me to give him some of my toys. :P Still, it's nice for the most part even if it means I went from packing to not packing.
Anyway, for the promo from the new ep (that I haven't seen yet) Lena and Stef kiss and for a second Widget blinks in that slow blink way then says, "What, they're gay?" and I nearly fell off the bed.
I know it's ridiculous for me to have thought he'd make it to twelve not knowing what gay was but it never really came up before except in a throwaway way, I think. So I tell him yes, they are and then let him know that I was Clueless Aunt who didn't know he knew what gay was.
"Well I do. People think I'm dumb but I'm not."
Oh, honey. I don't think you're dumb. But you say that to a twelve year old in that voice and you're Not Helping. So I jettison the voice and tell him I don't think he's dumb, I just didn't realize it had ever come up. Then, later, when I had to explain who the oldest boy was, we covered the fact that some people realize really early on that they're gay and some don't. He thought about this and there was a follow up question of some sort that I think was basically "what makes gay people gay" and I won't lie. I went with this answer: Born that way, chiblet.
And then we went back to the show. I think he enjoyed it, though I think he'd enjoy it more if he hadn't missed the Jesus parts where you realize he's got ADHD. Like Widget.
More, please.
