And so the holidays officially begin. The Christmas tree is up (I'm still kind of holding out hope that someone will at least go all Charlie Brown on a real tree because I miss having one and I am so flippin' allergic to artificial trees that it isn't funny.*
We put up some of the lights. This house is different so we had to adjust some things, like there's no looping the lights up the stairs because even if I put them on the back of one of the railings, there's no plug upstairs or at the foot of the stairs. The blue lights still go over the windows in the front room and I think they look lovely. Less sad than they looked at the other house, though I still think that shade of blue is so pretty. You can keep your frickin' blue LED lights that make my brain actually hurt.
We decorated a bit. Yesterday Widget and I made a bowl full of white lights (one of those things magazines and Pinterest are always saying is cool. This time they were right.) when his strand of white icicles had a problem with half of them being burned out. (Also no place to put them as actual icicle lights.) The actual decorations are a work in progress. Pictures if the camera and memory card decide not to be jerkfaces to one another.
Then today I finished making the sugar cookies I started yesterday. I used to hate sugar cookies but then Tracy introduced me to the wonderful world of Betty Crocker (I think?) mixes and that one is delicious.
Widget had a tough day in math, so I offered to make brownies. Which he took me up on and good lord they're delicious.
And now I'm looking outside and it's so unbelievably foggy, I just wish it were colder. Which would probably negate the fog level.
I'm trying to figure out whether or not I should risk putting my blue tree up in my room or try to find a place down here. I want it in my room but I worry that the cat will kill it...
The inspection went well. It was over pretty quickly and other than that weird flush I get whenever I have to speak to people I don't know all that well beyond "do you have a rewards card? do you want a bag? do you want your receipt?" I didn't spaz out. Social interactions are hard, man. Just hard.
Plus side, the house is relatively clean if you ignore the influx of Christmas boxes. :P
Unrelated to everything ever, but I did my every so often check in on tumblr and came across a Dug gif. You know Dug, from Up. I'm gonna let you in on a little secret. Dug makes me cry. Right around the time Dad died, Cass ordered stuff from the Disney store. Stitch and Dug, plus something for Widget, I think. I don't know why, and she had them shipped to my house under the guise of "maybe Dug will make you feel better. And also this way Matt won't know I bought them." Sooooo... I opened the box to make sure they sent her the right things (because that's what you do) and fell in love with Dug and then she appears shortly there after and she gets her stuff and it was the stupidest thing, crying on the inside over giving back a stupid stuffed animal.
But I'll be damned if I didn't feel like a five year old about the whole thing. So that and one of the last cards I gave Dad was a Dug one and the whole, "I have just met you and I love you" thing, combined with the weekend after he died, she showed up and one of the movies the kids watched out at the cabin was... Up. Because who doesn't enjoy crying in public?
Oh. Wait.
So, yeah. Dug makes me cry.
Come on, 1am. I wanna see if there's a sale I need or not.
* Actual conversation from this afternoon:
Me: Yeah, well, I'm allergic to fake Christmas trees so...
Mom: Wait, really?
Me: Yeah. I get all itchy and swell up and-
Mom: Oh, I thought you just threw up.
I should point out that she sat there while I helped Widget put together the fake tree. So... I'm unsure if she thought there had to be a certain amount of exposure or if she was just waiting for me to run from the room vomiting due to the tree. :P

Date: 2013-12-10 08:12 pm (UTC)Glad the inspection was uneventful. Hoping to get my decorating done with my 5 days off (and boss lady is out sick today too! It's like vacation started early!!)
Pics of the bowl that actually turned out cool?

Date: 2013-12-10 09:50 pm (UTC)Up is a fabulous movie, it really is, but good lord will you cry. Which is why I am torn anytime it's on TV and I haven't set aside time to bawl like a baby. :p
Tried to take pics of the bowl and my camera said "memory card needs to be formatted" and it most certainly does not. So I figured I'd try again later. Give them time to sort that mess out. Clearly that's how technology works, right?
