impyI have a huge want list from AG. Some of it is stuff that I will probably hold out on for awhile longer and doesn't feel like it's a major "hurry, buy now!" kind of thing. (Caroline's stuff, for one.) But with the upheaval in Historical Land, I've been eyeballing just about everyone else's collection because you just never know what tricky things Mattel is up to.
Free shipping code actually appeared yesterday (yay!) so I used it this morning to buy a lot of stuff. And the sad thing is, there's a lot more on my To Buy list. Sigh.
First, the thought process.
The general consensus seems to be that there will still be an archival this year, even with Samantha making her triumphant return. Possibly doubled the odds with that since they'll now be able to say, "Look, they DO come back" and also, "Look! Over here! It's Samantha!" while taking a sizable chunk out of the historical line under the guise of revamping it for the BeForever switch. I normally sit somewhere in the middle of this, as some people are sure this will be all sunshine and rainbows while others are sure the entire historical section will be gutted.
I figure they'll use the revamp as a time to get rid of the stuff that isn't working and doesn't do much good to keep around. For instance, I do not believe they'll get rid of Kaya because the backlash would be a bitch. But I do think the NOLA line is heading for the great archive in the sky because they'll still have Addy. It will also create a bit of "ohnoes, get everything when it is new!" effect for those who haven't paid attention to the gutting of the NOLA line. Panic induced buying frenzies are good for the company at times.
I fear that they'll use the opportunity to wipe out the best friends, so that would get rid of Ivy, Ruthie, and the aforementioned NOLA line. That's not likely to get rid of a bunch of stuff since Ivy has two outfits (one that's been on sale for months) and Ruthie's not exactly rolling in the outfits these days either... but it'll also open the door for them to wipe out what they want/need to from Julie's and Kit's collections.
And then you look at the collections of everyone else and you try and figure out what they'll get rid of. I'm not sure I'd say anything is safe, though again, I'd imagine Caroline is as close to safe in her collection as anyone. (And even she's got rumors of her dishes going buh-bye.)
So. I skipped through collections seeing who had what that I still wanted, while also paying a little attention to the rumour that maybe Josefina would find herself axed. (Not sure how much I believe this one, but I do like to hedge my bets.) Kaya's kinda hosed as far as collections go and I'm not in the market for a new doll yet. Caroline's relatively safe for now, so that leads us to Josefina.
I'm torn on her, honestly. I have seen some lovely Josefinas in my day and I've also seen some who should probably sue or find Chucky and join up with his crusade of Not Here. But I do like some of her stuff so... I eyeballed what's left of her stuff and scooped her Feast Day outfit and the Dress/Vest outfit, since neither yielded an immediately cheaper option via ebay.
I bypassed the NOLA girls because I want M-G's nightgown, but I also want furniture and Cecile's parrot and if I open that door, I am hosed. Plus I hope, irrationally, for one last sale. :P Since I have every intention of making another order at a later date, I held off. I may regret it, I may not.
That takes us to Addy where I own a good portion of the stuff still available. I snagged her plaid summer dress (as I've been meaning to for awhile) and perused the rest of the historicals.
I've got a fair chunk of Kit's stuff and if they do take out Ruthie, I won't mind shelling out for her pajamas even with shipping. Bypassed Rebecca because I'm trying very, very hard not to buy her yet and I know the moment I buy her pajamas, I'll officially start planning on buying her. Julie's stuff is tempting but I'm leaving it in case there is a cute PWP Cass finds this weekend. I can easily tell her to snag Julie's white dress and throw it on the pile if we need to reach a certain $ amount.
And then I kind of went insane and ordered a giant chunk of Isabelle's separates because time has not made me want them less.
Which wasn't that much more than I was considering spending ($11 more since one of the things I ordered is on back-order). I figure I'll give FS time to put stuff on backorder and then make a second order. I'm pretty satisfied with this one. Historical and GOTY stuff. I'm sending a small list (two items small) with Cass for her weekend stop and both items are MyAG things. (Store pajamas and shorts.)
But the real question will be whether I buy Isabelle's studio or not. I still want it but I'm not looking forward to trying to sell the extra stuff I don't necessarily want (to help offset the price, you see). But the only time I'll be able to buy it is during free shipping because the shipping on that beast is $30. Looks like someone has had some luck selling the sewing machine (he got 60.99) and the dress form (50-something, I think) which would massively off-set the price. But then I'd have to either list on eBay or on a board somewhere. We'll see, we'll see.
Tl;dr version: After much deliberation, I went with Josefina's Feast Day outfit, her Dress & Vest outfit, Addy's Plaid Set, and just about all of Isabelle's separate pieces with the exception of her dance pants and wrap skirt. No, I didn't buy the crop top or theweird funky leggings either, but short of someone gifting me with the crop top, I will probably never own either. (Sometimes I waffle on the leggings.)
Whatever I decide on for a possible second order will depend on whether I can play backorder roulette. (Sometimes this is my favorite part of free shipping.)
I am as giddy as a nine year old at the thought of getting a box of goodies though!
And so this isn't ALL AG, I also bought a steam cleaner because yes. Dad and I were both considering buying one before he died and so in his honor, I will go around steam cleaning stuff and shrieking about my very own flamethrower.

Hooray, AG fun! I'll have to go take a look. That's exactly how I feel about NOLA! If it's one thing, it will have to be all things, but I'm also hoping for some sort of final sale first. *fingers crossed* I've been debating if I should get those Josefina outfits now new, or just wait on ebay down the line. Argh and now worried I'll succumb to Kaya's LE outfit too. Was really hoping to be able to use this first free shipping on #61, but I guess that's going to be a wait. Well at least all the Sailor Moon stuff is Preorder for a few months more, so I'll have to see what calls here! Still waiting on replacement credit cards from the Target fiasco, but soooooon. Soon!

You have better ebay luck, so you might luck into them at super awesome prices. *nodnod* I decided to offset the Isabelle stuff with historical goodness and have likely ensured that all the stuff I bought/will buy historical-wise will be here FOREVER.
The more I look at Kaya's outfit, the more it grows on me. Which means my resolve to not get a new doll before like, birthday time, is likely to be laughable at best. :P

I was iffy on those stylus' when I thought they were tiny, but seeing how big they are and then fold out to whack people with....argh, waiting for confirmation sucks!

So....we'll be doing a massive edit before that order is submitted, lol. I really wish we had more of a clue of what's going on with NOLA this year. It seems weird that they would bring down Samantha's re-awakening by also axeing two characters, but I guess they could be hoping it overshadows it. But then they could be shooting themselves in the foot when people don't know which direction to throw their money at. Of course there's so little NOLA left anyways...but then that's the same of a few others which might just be waiting for BeForever shenanigants. Hrm. Hmhmhm!!
Sorry for the confusion! Heh, yeah I understand on the Kaya dilemma. Then I worried that getting her new meant I would NEVER want to reattempt those braids. You're at least more hair savvy than I am at that though!

I think I hit $1,000+ when someone put that challenge out on the board to tally up EVERYTHING you wanted from AG and see how much it would be. I then resolved to never do that again because it's soul crushing. (Also, I don't think it included Isabelle's Studio.)
I believe the current theory is: Archive NOLA this April and use Samantha as the dangling carrot of, "But they could be back. One day. Look, Sam's back!"
I personally agree with the train of thought that they've got way too much going on this year and people might initially throw money at them but then... eyes will glaze over and pocketbooks and wallets will snap closed.
It's sad looking at most of the collections these days. :(

Oh, and random - if you have a Sally's Beauty Supply out there you should check them for clip in hair goodies. I got some sparkly pink, blue, and purple extensions for $2.99 which work perfectly on Josefina. I don't know how much AG charges for their extensions, but I guarantee it's way more than $3!

AG is a cruel, cruel mistress. Cruel! Which is my way of saying there is no why. You have my sympathies, though. When Samantha was archived, all I really wanted aside from Nellie, was Sam's middy dress and Mums called, like two days into Samageddon, and was told they were completely sold out. They weren't but by the time I figured that the CS rep was full of it, they actually were.
